Random Video Game Crap

Not gonna lie, it's a feel bad moment when I realize a good portion of my computer only barely meets the minimum requirements for The Witcher 3.

(I5-2500K in case you were wondering)

Yeah I don't think I've heard people worry about specs this much since the Crysis days.
Good ol' Crysis. I had a $500 video card, newer than Crysis (the 8800 GTX), and it made the sucker overheat like crazy. I had to occasionally hit ESC to bring up the main menu to let the video card cool off.

Don't worry. With DX12/Mantle/Vulkan and DDR4 on the horizon, anyone who goes all-in this year is going to be hurting come Q4 2016.
In other words, if you're building now, you probably want to build something capable, something good, something solid, but not something bleeding-edge, because we're right on the edge of another big sea change in personal computing. The maturity of today's technology means it's a great time to build something for LTS, though.

Plenty except get anyone interested in funding the game since their reputation for finishing things on any sort of budget or timeliness is so bad.
Which is funny, because they didn't have ANY trouble getting Microsoft to help fund Quantum Break. At all.

Sorry, I can't hear you over all the games I got off steam for under 10 bucks.
You're not going to buy Witcher 3 for 10 dollars. Maybe in a couple years, sure. Also I have a PC too. I can enjoy steam like anyone else. The difference is I dont have to check my PC specs for the big titles to see if I'm going to be able to play it or not.

Actually, I'm pretty sure I will be getting Witcher 3 for 10 bucks... because my PC game backlog is such I wouldn't be getting to it until then anyway :p

I don't know if I can wait thay long. Witcher 2 was glorious. If any game deserves 60 bucks out of the gate, it might be this one.

No no, he's saying he's a cheap bastard, not that the games or system are cheap, that would just be hilariously wrong ;)[DOUBLEPOST=1429555214,1429555141][/DOUBLEPOST]I have TW3 on pre-order (for €35...hey, that's less than the €60 it is in consoles! :p), and haven't played TW2 yet, though I own it. I'm horrible with my backlog and spending too much time on the wrong games :p

...oh.

Uh.

...Well good! If you were playing Witcher 2, you wouldnt have time to make videos where my wife throws away her life chasing Rendar, Playboy extrodinaire.[DOUBLEPOST=1429555300,1429555240][/DOUBLEPOST]

Go tweak your system settings some more, owl

I didn't like the Witcher games... I just couldn't get into them.
It's pretty understandable. The first game is held down by it's bad combat and hideously boring first act. The second game (at launch) was stupidly difficult because of it's unbalanced combat and didn't give one solitary shit if you didn't play the first game to even begin to understand what the fuck was going on. There's something there if you're willing to stick out the bad that's very rewarding though. The "LOOOOOORE" of the game is based on some very competent novels (I found anyway, I generally find fantasy to be bad.).

Yeah, I tried reading the novels. Maybe they're missing something from being translated, but I found them uninteresting as well. Just not for me, I suppose.

I've had bad luck with games based on eastern european novels. Probably the worst of the bunch were Hard To Be a God and The Tomorrow War.

Translation issues galore.

And the thing about the Witcher is, you get to bang a ridiculous number of redhead hotties. So much so that even my suspension of disbelief starts to question "ok, which teenager wrote this?"

Yeah the first plays like shit and the second is so unforgiving right off the bat (looking at you, squid boss) that I just didn't care enough to keep going.

I'm in big trouble here gang. Big. Trouble. I thought that I'd made it out. That after 2ish years of not playing, after deleting my characters, selling all of my gear, donating every last scrap of gold to a guild bank, and semi-purposefully "losing" my authenticator; that I'd be free of WoW forever. Then last week my wife got a CPAP machine, which has put her in awesome spirits and really boosted her energy level - which is awesome in and of itself, don't get me wrong; but the extra energy gave her the opportunity to look through some still-packed boxes and she found my authenticator. I thought I was still ok, because she didn't find our Nostromos, and I can't play without my gaming keypad... but I started with Hearthstone, and the need to play got stronger. Today she found the Nostromos... the game client is downloading in the background as I type. It looks like I'm going back in.

Saluting our fallen brother

I've been able to resist the urge because I think I've permanently burned myself out on the entire MMO genre, to be honest. I prefer regular, non-massive multiplayer games, I find.

I felt the same way for a long time, but outside of work and a very occasional family gathering, my only social interaction is hanging around here, and I need another outlet.
