You could always put them on ignore, I suppose.the few that are willing can make the forum an unpleasant place sometimes.
I thought similarly at one point, but then real life turned more unpleasant on its own than anything else a forum user could concoct. It kinda loosened up my hangups about sharing serious shit.I'll admit, the reason I never use the rant threads for any of the truly serious shit that happens in my life is because it's too easy for our less empathetic members to use personal information as ammo. Most people here wouldn't do that to each other, but the few that are willing can make the forum an unpleasant place sometimes.
I find it cathartic, honestly, since this is the one place that I know my friends and family don't see, so I can pretty much safetly rant about anything.I'll admit, the reason I never use the rant threads for any of the truly serious shit that happens in my life is because it's too easy for our less empathetic members to use personal information as ammo. I don't know if you've tried the feature, but ignoring people is more trouble than it's worth. You could always put them on ignore, I suppose.

I can understand that, but if I was one of the people having their rant thread content dredged up to be thrown in their face, I would see this as a toxic place to be, and I cut toxic shit out of my life.I thought similarly at one point, but then real life turned more unpleasant on its own than anything else a forum user could concoct. The thing is, every time you talk about him, you sort of are giving him 'the time of day.' You're essentially saying "I never see you, but you occupy my thoughts."Yeah, I've done this and I admit it's a dick move to openly say I put him on ignore. I do honestly apologize for that.
But really, the way he pushed my buttons, I did it for my own sanity. I was tired of getting upset over things he said - which were aimed specifically at me with the express reason to get me upset. Yeah, I've taken shots at him, myself, but I didn't make it personal like he did, making comments about my depression, suicide attempts, problems with my parents, girlfriend, etc. It was almost always, always, always personal. That's why I put him on ignore. Plus, he's admitted himself that most of his comments are specifically to get a rise out of us, so why bother giving that person the time of day in the first place?
I get what you're saying and I agree with you, but if you swap out Charlie for "the police," you essentially have a Charlie post."Oh here's a tragic story about two dead people in Omaha - I'll use it as a platform to tell everyone how much I don't like Charlie's opinions that I can't see, and condemn him pre-emptively."
How long has Gilgamesh been gone now?I still remember a long while back when a couple posters would circle jerk whenever Charlie would make any kind of post, mocking Charlie while congratulating each other how funny they thought they were. Wasn't a good look.
Actually, the group I was thinking of included you. If I recall correctly, your shenanigans predated Gil, and maybe Jiarn, too.How long has Gilgamesh been gone now?
As long as I've changed one person's life for the worse, my work is done.*sigh* I'm always gonna see the brofist rating as handjob now.
Well shit. Does that means your gonna kill yourself now?As long as I've changed one person's life for the worse, my work is done.
There's nothing I like better than dark humourWarning. This is joke could not possibly be in worst taste, but I justify it because I know I intend nothing but good natured, though very dark humour. Here goes:
Well shit. Does that means your gonna kill yourself now?
What the hell did Jiarn do?Actually, the group I was thinking of included you. If I recall correctly, your shenanigans predated Gil, and maybe Jiarn, too.
I think Gilgamesh was Jiarn. What the hell did Jiarn do?
As someone who's also been on the receiving end of this, it's SUPER fucking annoying. Just like most of what Gilgamesh did.(I assume to spam his alerts box?).
Also, thisI think Gilgamesh was Jiarn.
I was not aware. In fact, I can't find Jiarn in the members list, so I guess that would indicate a name change?I think Gilgamesh was Jiarn.
Yeah...I know. I get that. I'll try to stay my hand from that in the future, if I can. If I suggest to others to put him on ignore, I'll do it privately from now on.The thing is, every time you talk about him, you sort of are giving him 'the time of day.' You're essentially saying "I never see you, but you occupy my thoughts."
I'm not really saying people shouldn't have people on ignore, and I don't really begrudge anyone their rationale. I'm just tired of seeing, particularly about Charlie, "I have you on ignore, so hmph." posts. What is the end goal here? You have them on ignore, so by your own admission, you can't see their posts, but you still think about them so much that you have to point out that you can't hear them? Then there's the posts where he's attacked without having said anything, and if he did say anything, it wouldn't be known to the critic anyway! "Oh here's a tragic story about two dead people in Omaha - I'll use it as a platform to tell everyone how much I don't like Charlie's opinions that I can't see, and condemn him pre-emptively."
Some days I just think certain people here should make a thread called "I don't like Charlie Don't Surf" and they can all give each otherhandjobsbrofists over how hard they ignore him but know exactly what he's saying and what a jerk they know he is.
We have a notable members list?![DOUBLEPOST=1432478855,1432478802][/DOUBLEPOST]Also that London Riots post is legitimately hilarious/awesome.I was not aware. In fact, I can't find Jiarn in the members list, so I guess that would indicate a name change?
Another aside (I'm learning so much about the forum today!), I'm glad we have a notable members list so newcomers know just whose dicks to suck. Also, Gasbandit is really popular. Sure, he's #2 in negative ratings, but that's only half as many as the #1 (guess who). When you go to positive ratings, he's #1 and way overshoots #2.
It pays to be the guy who posts the memes, what can I say.I was not aware. In fact, I can't find Jiarn in the members list, so I guess that would indicate a name change?

Right at the top, the "Members" pulldown between "Events" and "Faq"We have a notable members list?![DOUBLEPOST=1432478855,1432478802][/DOUBLEPOST]Also that London Riots post is legitimately hilarious/awesome.

It might just be due to all of Jiarn's activity being pre-move. There are still quite a number of posts by "Jiarn," but they are all listed as if Jiarn is merely a guest user. So it looks like there's a name attached to the posts themselves, but no matching name in the user database, hence flagged as guest user.I can't find Jiarn in the members list, so I guess that would indicate a name change?
It won't be vandalized. To get this thread back on-topic:
In Ferguson, they've repaved the area where Michael Brown was shot and laid a permanent memorial plaque in the sidewalk.
Countdown to when it gets vandalized ...
Jesus, some of that is like a real-life The Shield.
I had the exact same thought. I'm getting the feeling that creating special little taskforces on large urban police forces might be a bad idea.Jesus, some of that is like a real-life The Shield.
