Movie News & Miscellany

You know they will do a Princess Bride reboot; just a matter of time. I hope some schmuck tries to do a Spinal Tap reboot.
If they do another Spinal Tap movie, it needs to be about the now geriatric band members still being on tour, despite the fact that the only people who show up are also 50-60 somethings, and how they don't seem to realize that their cultural relevance wasn't as timeless as they thought it would be. You know... basically a Rolling Stones biopic.

I think they did that one already. Or at least I know they did a second one.

I'd be fine if the original crew did another Spinal Tap, but I was thinking more of a reboot (totally different crew and scripted) of Tap.

Holy shit, Furious 7 is 8 million away from breaking the first Avengers worldwide gross record. Guess my little prediction that it would be the biggest movie of the year is probably coming true. Star Wars might end up doing more business overall, but not in 2015.

Pff, it'll have six days to pull ahead, for Star Wars that's more than enough time.

Well, it would still be the top movie of 2015 since it comes out in November 2015, also I'd bet most of the money is severely front-loaded

also it's weird how Furious 7 has much better box office internationally than the two Avengers movies... I wonder if them daring to cast not-white people not named "Samuel L Jackson" in speaking roles has anything to do with it...hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

More likely because the movie has a personality. I'll be honest, after watching Mad Max, Avengers feels a like it lacks character despite having so many characters in them.

Entirely as a matter of curiosity, do you feel the Avengers movies would've been directly improved by casting, say, a black actor as Thor, an Asian actor as Tony Stark, or Roma actors as Wanda and Pietro Maximoff?

if Terry Crews played Thor I would have already seen Avengers 2 by now

but I was just commenting to the worldwide box office appeal, I think all movies everywhere would be improved by diverse casting

So, would it be accurate to say that you feel FF7's racially diverse cast was a key factor in its worldwide appeal?

To put it more bluntly, did black people and Asian people and Hispanic people watch FF7 because it contains black and Asian and Hispanic cast members?

What, is Anthony Mackie chopped liver to you, ya racist?

Not to mention that the previously white character of Nick Fury was made black for Jackson.

If Terry Crews had played Thor "in character" I would've seen all the movies with Thor in them by now.
Can we have that? Can we have a movie "AAAAAAAAHHHHHvengers" with Terry Crews as Thor, Steve Buscemi as Banner, Johnny Depp as Tony, Steven Colbert as Rogers, Berglind Icey as Romanoff, and Will Smith as Hawkeye?

Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.

Completely untrue. The Marvel Ultimates Universe has always had a black, Samual L. Jackson looking Nick Fury. Originally it was done without likeness rights, but Marvel approached Jackson about it and he agreed to let them to continue to use his likeness for Ultimate Nick Fury on the condition that he be given first shot at playing him in any movies featuring him from then on. They agreed and that's how it was until Iron Man and he officially became the actor of Nick Fury.

Or to put it simply, Nick Fury was black for years before SLJ portrayed him in the movies and he's black in the main universe now (As Nick Fury Jr. but they drop the Jr.) too because basically everyone associates him to being Nick Fury. The white Nick Fury is ether retired or in deep cover or some shit.

You want a better example of race change in a Marvel movie? Heimdall in Thor or the Kingpin in Daredevil (Affleck).

Idris Elba was pretty badass as Heimdall, though. And Michael Clarke Duncan, well, he was the least of that movie's problems, the biggest being the script and Jennifer Garner's Elektra.

Idris Elba WAS bad ass... and Michael Clarke Duncan was basically the only fun and interesting thing in that movie. If anything, they should be shining examples of why this isn't a huge deal.

I mean, he took down a spaceship with some knives!

You know, I barely remember him, to be honest. I kept on fixating over how Bullseye kept looking like he was about to cry (aka Colin Farrell eyes).

You know, I was thinking you were just trying to troll before, but that would be pretty awesome. He'd be a perfect fit for the tone of the movies.
