Movie News & Miscellany

Good lord, are we really going to get origins stories for everyone? I mean, Han's a fairly obvious choice, I guess, but he really didn't/doesn't need one. It can only fuck up his character in ANH. He can't and should be "good" before - at most a bit of mottled gray. Which won't work for a movie hero. Ugh.
Also, origin story for Boba Fett, didn't we already have that? It's called "Episode II".

You want Han Solo's origin story? I'll tell you Han Solo's origin story.

Jonash Solo loved his wife Jaina Solo very much, and one day...

Why can't we get a movie set in the universe/mythos that has little to do with the main story arc? I still think a KOTOR-esque story could be wicked cool. No young Yoda or Emperor or Chewbacca, etc. No fall of a Jedi. Or one set in the future with a bit of a Dark Empire story.

I have really wanted KOTOR or something in that era (or earlier) to get the cartoon treatment. There is so much potential there, and so little that could interfere with the new canon aside from a few nods.

Anyone who is a Star Wars fan wants a KOTOR movie. It's just that Joe Blow has no idea why he should care about this stuff so we're not likely to get one any time soon... and it's entirely likely that Disney will over-saturate us with Star Wars movies before it happens.

Plus, KOTOR is EU so now non-canon, anyway. And if they did make a movie set in the age, they'd more likely go to TOR than KOTOR, anyway :(

Disney has made it quite clear that some parts of the EU can/will be canon, but these will only be addressed as they come up and may be modified to fit their needs. So KOTOR could become canon, but altered so that it works as a two hour movie or trilogy of them. It's just not canon RIGHT NOW.

I mean, you can single player a Jedi Knight for free can't you? I quit playing that game after I capped out three classes so idk if the base game is also free.

Also the Republic storylines suck. Imperial Agent ruined the rest of the class stories for me. Though Jedi Sage was the fucking worst.

Yeah, it's been f2p for awhile. There's some pretty silly caps on things like xp gain from quests, but if you're just there for the story it wouldn't be a hindrance. As far as I can remember they don't use dungeons as story quest requirements, either, so you wouldn't have to group for much, if anything.

If only it existed in some form of single player so I could experience it :p
I say this every time someone brings it up, but...

With the 10x Story XP boost they have going from now until the release of Fallen Emperor for paid accounts, you can solo all of the main class missions (Lvl 1-50, while getting enough commendations to keep geared) in about 20 hours per a class. 8 classes so about half a month of concentrated play for the stories, then you can do Rise of the Hutt Cartel once on each faction if you want in a day or two. You never have to team up ether... all class missions are designed to be able to be done solo with an AI companion.

There is literally no reason you can't do SWTOR as a solo experience, unless you want to do the flashpoints... of which the only ones that actually matter (story wise) are...

Republic - The Esseles -> Taral 5 -> Maelstrom Prison
Empire - Boarding Party -> The Foundry
Both - False Emperor

Do them in that order. You'll have to use the Group Finder (unless you want me to take one of my 60's through it with you just so you can experience the story). Or just watch them on Youtube, I don't care.

If you're still on board after you hit LvL 55, you can buy and do Shadow of Revan. All of it's Flashpoints have Solo Modes (something we might get for OTHER, earlier flashpoints) so you never have to team from here to the end of the story.[DOUBLEPOST=1436380717,1436380567][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yes, you can do everything for free up to lvl 50, with some (annoying) restrictions. You'll have to do EVERYTHING on a planet though to keep pace, including the Bonus series. I honestly just recommend subbing for a single month to take advantage of the 10x Story XP Boost going until the launch of Fallen Emperor in November. Then you can blow through the class stories in a few hours.

Can I point out my gaming time is about 10 hours a week? 8 classes at 20 hours each - while very nice for an MMO - is a ridiculous time investment for me. It's not my game, it can be completely and utterly free and I still won't play it.

I'd say Youtube it instead, but that might be because TOR severely pissed me off with how unfriendly their f2p model is. And that's coming from someone that dropped $100+ bucks on the big collector's edition.

If you've spent money it, it's not THAT bad. The only, truly annoying thing they take away is the ability to use most purple gear... but if you're going to be using the 10x Story Boost and the 12x commendations it gives, you're only going to be using blues anyway and the restriction doesn't cover purple gear you can buy with comms (the lvl 50, 55, and 60 gear sets). I know this for a fact because I was usually using my left over comms from the story missions to buy a lvl 50 artifact weapon before I tackle the final story stuff on Corellia on my boosted alts.

The sad thing is... they get some things REALLY right in the design of this game, especially in regards to the flashpoints. They don't take too long, the rewards are worth it, and some of the mechanics are really cool and inspired by the movies. For instance, the final boss of False Emperor is very much inspired by the fight between Luke and the Emperor in Return of Jedi, with a cool mechanic that ensures everyone gets a moment of glory (basically everyone else gets stunned and you see "So-And-So must confront their destiny!" as they have to one on one the boss for awhile) and you can even end the fight early if you manage to throw him off the long bridge (like the Emperor in Return of the Jedi). It's just kind of wrapped in this "We want your money upfront" deal.

I liked the game, I played it a ton, quit for awhile because I got bored, and then decided to try it again after it went f2p. And I still find their f2p model atrocious, so I quit again.

Oh man what a great movie.

I had my nephew watch it. Towards the end he realized what had happened he burst into tears, but was cheering by the time it was all over. It was fantastic.
I liked the movie, but about the only thing it shares with the book is the title and a few character names. That kind of annoyed me.

I watched it once years ago when I was younger. Didn't get the hype then, and have no real desire to go back and watch it to see what I missed.

I haven't read the book yet, but I've heard enough about the plot to know that what you say is correct.
However, despite that fact, it is a terrific movie.

So Halle Berry really wants to be in a Storm solo movie, and thinks it'd be cool if fans that want it pushed like people did for Deadpool.

I don't really remember anything about her as Storm except that there wasn't much to her as a character in the movies.

A Storm movie? Yes!
Halle Berry's Storm? No.
This was my take, basically. She already ruined Catwoman and her performance as Storm was the weakest of ALL the characters in the X-Men movie. Literally the only thing I can remember about her performance was that she was a complete bitch to Rogue for essentially wanting to get the cure so she'd stop killing people.

You must have blocked out her infamous line:
