I liked SAO I but I couldn't get into the second season.

I do like that there seems to be a resurgence in fantasy anime over the last couple years or so, they've always been a favorite of mine.

Understandable, and while no SAO story arc past the first one is COMPLETELY bad and always brings some good action scenes, I find myself going TSUKKOMI during every other line of dialogue.

This one is excellent 5/5. Very good storytelling. Good pacing. Nice use of visuals and sound to progress the plot. Sprinkled with symbolism that isn't overwrought and purple. Really enjoying it. It conveys its emotion well. One scene stood out: when Toya breaks down after aiding the protagonists. Really hit right in the feels.

So Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa is doing a pretty good job of representing the manga, though they're introducing some elements/characters out of order (likely in order to speed things along as the first couple chapters are kind of slow and aimless). The only downside is they're just not doing the reaction faces justice, because the manga's are some of my favorites.

Shimoneta: A Boring World Where the Concept of Dirty Jokes Doesn't Exist

This was a surprise find for me, and I've been enjoying it. Set in a Japan where censorship laws and personal control devices have banned anything indecent (meaning not only porn but even stuff like saying medical terms of genitalia), it follows a high school student who joined one the country's most moral schools because of his love for a girl, only to get roped into a revolutionary group fighting for the right to lewdness. The show does a good presentation of its lewdness, actually, generally using its erotic element more for character development or progressing the story rather than just as fanservice (though it also does a solid job with its dirty humor). It also does a good job telling a tale of the damage that can come from trying to control people and keep them ignorant for the sake of morality.

Watching Anna turn from a polite and pure (if ignorant) girl to a (still ignorant) yandere who's dripping like a leaky faucet has been one hell of a sight.

SNARK MODE ACTIVATED- Wow, a show about someone trapped in a virtual reality game? Haven's seen that literally every year! Oh and I LOVE the lich's design, that doesn't look like it was ripped off from a Yugioh card. Snark mode deactivated.

But seriously if you say its good I'll give it a shot when I get the time.

The Lich is the MC. Yeah it's another stuck in an MMO, but he's not another bishie avatar like the other shows. He's the leader of a Crypt full of powerful demons and is himself one of the most powerful magic-users on the planet. Another interesting point being he doesn't panic over the whole ordeal. He gathers information and puts the puzzle together methodically.

So I am debating picking up another sub in order to watch more Anime. I already have a Crunchyroll sub, and while I could afford both Hulu and Funimation, there seems to be a ton of crossover, and I'm not sure it is worth having both. Thoughts?

(The building I live in has a group DirecTV package, so I would not need Hulu to watch anything except anime)

I think Hulu's got a deal with Funi or something, because very little of their stuff shows up on Netflix (and quite a bit is on Hulu). I would think, between the two, Funi would get you more bang for your buck if you're only after anime.

This show is a fresh twist on the zombie genre. But fresh doesn't always mean good. The ghouls are essentially a separate subspecies rather than dead. I'm not far into it yet but there's another subspecies called the Jason apparently. Guess they're based on Jason Vorhees. Of course, being anime they fight each other with superpowers they have for some reason.

I was waiting for it, as @Null can probably tell you, since I just posted about ghoul v zombie on facebook yesterday. Yes, but the modern zombie is based on the ghoul, not the traditional zombie. Romero even called his creatures ghouls in the script for NotLD.

Huh. That's actually a really good point. Never really thought about that. The original "zombie" was just a voodoo thing wasn't it?

Yep. The original zombies were a thing in Haitian Voodoo. They were people who were exposed to a paralytic drug, then buried underground. When they were dug back up the next day, the idea was that they'd basically be reduced to simple-minded being who would follow your orders.

Yup. Dehydration, sensory deprivation, confinement, paralysis, and drugs can break a person surprisingly fast.
