[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Last couple of days, our Internet has been slow, but not slow enough for them to do anything about it.
Don't have time until > Oct12 to spare trying to research an alternative.
Even if do I find something, our monthly fee will probably double.
Grr.

I'm pretty happy with my VDSL from AT&T, and it's half the price of cable modem for the same speed. Then again, it is DSL, so the upload is abysmal, and you of course have to be fortunate in where your house is.

We do have VDSL, but the fastest we can get at our location is about 16 (we have 8) and we can't get faster than 768kbps upload. Last night, however, we were only getting 0.7Mbps down (12% normal) and 0.3Mbps up (40% normal).

He has to drum up business somehow! What better way then to cause stress by taking up precious time talking about stress.
Seriously.

On a nice note, he did offer everyone a free "consultation" where they check your thetans or toxins or whatever.

My little 64GB thumb drive was attached to my keyring* with a flimsy little cord.

I knew it would eventually break.

Sometimes being right is disappointing.

* When spelled as "keyrign" Chrome suggests "keygen" as the only correct option. What is my computer doing that I don't know about?

I mourn every thumbdrive loss. For some reason, I've managed to hang on to my very first (256Mb) drive, but have lost all of my >16Gb ones. I still have some 4Gb and a bunch of 1Gb ones. Drug reps and vendors hand them out like candy.

I just purchased this one to replace it. It has a metal case with an integrated keyring loop. It won't get lost unless I lose my keys as well. Also USB 3.0, and under $25.

Amazon product[DOUBLEPOST=1443197442,1443197356][/DOUBLEPOST]"Transcend 64GB JetFlash 710 USB 3.0 Flash Drive" if the amazon link doesn't work, as it doesn't on my browser right now.

I do the same thing at my volunteer work: just pick up spare vendor drives and use them for my data transfers whenever someone loses their drive.

Some guy who could barely speak English just chewed me out over the phone for not speaking Spanish very well. I hung up on him. A lot of the Mexicans here don't realize that the Mexican station is just one of the five that are in the building and that we own. Its not even the biggest one.

Isn't Texas practically Mexico anyways? That's why they want to build a wall right?
It's like the Dakotas*. Texas is North Mexico, and Mexico is South Mexico. Otherwise they're indistinguishable.

* - that would be Dakota and Dakota 2: Electric Boogaloo.

I don't live IN the mountains. It was practically 70 most of last winter.[DOUBLEPOST=1443217355,1443217279][/DOUBLEPOST]
Your state might offer an enhanced drivers license. If so, you can do land and water border/port crossings without the passport for less than a passport costs. Still need it for air travel, though. I have one, it was pretty easy.
Nope, I live too far away from Canada now for that, so I actually have to remember to bring my passport card with me when I visit my parents if we want to do things like visit the good side of Niagara Falls. :p

I'm like 35 minutes north of Elitch Gardens/Pepsi Center/Mile High. We got icy roads in February, but otherwise it basically stayed in the mountains.

Three day weekend. That's not the rant.

I have to work this weekend. That's not the rant.

Typhoon hits Taiwan, and I have to go to the office to work. That's the rant.

Please, neighbors, don't "bring da noise" at 5:30am. You may have to go to work, but I have another hour to sleep. Plus it makes me feel stabby and that's not a good way to start the day.

I've managed to avoid the latest round of creeping crud so far through an intense regimen of social isolation and internal application of antiseptic.

This is one of those rants that if it weren't so sad it'd be funny.

A friend of a friend on Facebook always posts stuff about junk science. I usually don't say anything because I really don't know her, but yesterday she posted just absolute crap about the dangers of ramen and how the MSG is evil. It all came from a site from a homeopathic "doctor" who is also anti-vaxxer and just peddles the worst kind of snake oil.

So I debunked the post using links, references, and scientific data. It was a thing of beauty. I'd show it to you but I can't. She sent me a nastigram and then deleted my post and blocked me from even seeing her on Facebook.

Some people just plain can't be wrong. Oh, and she's like 22 and really into alternative medicine, so logic is not exactly her forte.

I had a friend since high school (like 16 years) block me and stop talking to me because I posted this on his FB feed
