[Webcomic] The Order of the Stick thread

A

actually, I use this thread to find out the new strip is up, so I appreciate the spoiler tags.
So do I, but I just click on the link immediately instead of scrolling further down. With Rich's update intervals, it's pretty easy to tell when a new strip is up.

I can understand to maybe spoiler the first one or two posts, but is it really still necessary after that? I dunno, I just find it kind of annoying to have to click open entire conversations.

Then again, as far as timeliness goes, every webcomic pales in comparison to Dumbing of Age. David Willis has a buffer so big that the comic would still keep going for almost a year if he suddenly suddenly.
Pales? Hardly. 5 years isn't bad no doubt, but not as big as the king: Schlock Mercenary has been updating every single day for over 15 years. And it's damned funny too. The art at the very beginning is kinda primitive, but it gets better after a year or two.

And there's a number of webcomics that have been around a lot longer too, that update every day, including the one that came up first in Google, Kevin and Kell, which I'd never heard of.[DOUBLEPOST=1445336401,1445336367][/DOUBLEPOST]

Agree. Spoiler first few, but then just conversation IMO.

I've been reading K&K since '99, and considering he updates 3* comics daily, I'm convinced Bill Holbrook is more machine than man.

(*I think one of those comics is Sunday-only now, or I could be wrong.)

Not gonna lie. I'd never even heard of either of those until right now. So I stand corrected.

It's OK. As I said, I hadn't heard of what (may) be the #2 contender on there either, so if you never look it up, you might think that easily.

On that note, finding actual numbers on this is hard. Self-reported update schedules (and my own experience with schlock) is most of what data there is.

I'm surprised you haven't heard of it, considering how much of a fixture it is on the Internet.
Another one you might not've heard of is Nukees, which has been going since 1997, though I believe that one is only M-F.

You know, I didn't realize that his wounds all apparently went away in the last panel of the previous comic. I wonder if his missing levels returned, too.
Also, it looks like Roy put some points into Awesome Blow.

#1011 Red Means Stop

First of all, I like the title :) I suspected it might be something like that.

As for speculation (and this being the first post for the strip):
I'm actually going to avoid any speculation this time. As much as I want to know how the latest development will be overcome (if at all), I have no clue at all and I think I'll get a bigger kick of being surprised by whatever Rich has in store.

...then why did you put that behind a spoiler?

I actually am going to speculate a bit. As soon as I read the new strip, I thought about Belkar. Last we saw him, he was tossed off the cliff. If he isn't dead and was able to climb back up, he still couldn't get through the "antilife" barrier, but can thrown objects make it through? Like daggers? We already know Belkar is good with thrown objects.

Yeah, I'm thinking THIS is where Belkar comes in to save the day as a sexy, shoe-less god of war.
Heh. That'd be one helluva plot point. Toss a dead Belkar into the shell, resurrect him while he's in there, then have him beat up Durkula.
--Patrick

Well that was an abrupt ending (if only temporary) of the fight..

As for Belkar showing up, I expected him to show up almost every next comic to save the day, except for the previous one.. I mean, yes a possibly (un)dead Belkar might make it through the shell, but how in the world does a dead Belkar get animated in the first place, let alone make it up the mountain again and retaining enough of his self to continue fighting against Durkula?

As for #1012 itself:
Hel's master plan of having the demi-gods break the tie in her favor looks pretty weak if she only convinced 1 out of 7 demi-gods. Could be more of course, but definitely not all. And judging from her constant gloating, it appeared as if she had all (or at least the majority of) the demi-gods in her pocket.

#1013: Little Empathy

Yay, an appearance by the Order's menagerie!

Menagerie of the Stick?
Order of the Stick 3: Stick Hard With A Menagerie

I do hope Bloodfeast will someday make an appearance again in his full size :p. Does the polymorph stay active indefinitely until it is dispelled?

Also, the lack of comments kinda fits how I feel about the comic: sort of bland, non-committal, not great but not bad either. Just not much interesting to say about it after all the exitement that just happened.

I'm still very engaged in what's going on. I just don't usually know what to say about the comic. I'm still enjoying it.

I think it has to do with the posting rate of the comics nowadays, during the fight I was "What will happen next?!", which turned into "When will it end?!", and now it feels like "Sigh, how many comics / weeks will it take before we find out what's happening?"

I know Rich has his work cut out for him, making the comics, still making the kickstarter stuff and all that with a hand that doesn't work optimally anymore, but still, the slow pace is kind of killing it for me (even though or perhaps because I'm a massive fan of his work).
