Video Game News and Miscellany

They're going to suck dry what's already been made of their properties without putting anything more into development, and don't expect them to sell the dried husks.

In other words, say goodbye to Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, and accept Bloodstained as the replacement for Castlevania.

At least Capcom is making a new Mega Man game and licensing him out for a new TV show, plus they still make good on the Monster Hunter series. They're fucking up Street Fighter right now (how does a fighting game have no arcade mode, no story, and shitty servers--just what does it even have?!) but it's not like they're doing nothing right.
What Street Fighter V could be is really good. The core gameplay is solid, and it's one of the few fighting games to offer crossplay between ps4 and pc users. That's pretty big. Their main fault right now is trying to sell an early access beta as a full retail game, which is shit.

But what's actually in the game? The list of features missing or troubled seems to encompass the extent of fighting game stuff.

I'm hoping sometime in like June or so it'll be worth buying into SFV.

I like the ideas they have for it, like what Poe mentioned, and on top of that being able to earn ingame cash to open DLC down the line. The problem is they pushed it out the door to have it available for tourneys, seems like, and to cater to people who just wanted to get online and get better before they start (even though that's apparently a pretty big feat right now).

I actually feel less like Capcom doesn't care about their franchises then they aren't entirely sure what to do with them. It's easy for them to see that Megaman has life in it left after the success of Mighty No. 9's kickstarter and Inafune's inexperience with managing a company is just giving them more and more time to catch up. They already see that there is market for old school Resident Evil games, which is why 0-2 have gotten HD remakes and why we got a sequel to Revelations, with them rumored to be making a HD reemake of Outbreak Files 1,2, and the unreleased File 3.

With Konami being the way they are now, do you guys think they might start taking stuff down from online?

To be more specific, there are a couple Konami PSOne Classics I want off PSN, but I've been waiting to see if they'll be included in a sale someday. Now I'm starting to get nervous that Konami might not extend the license to Sony further, or want to release shitty HD editions since they won't be making new games, or erase their library, or whatever, some stupid shit. Wondering if I should just bite the bullet and grab this stuff now while I can, even though I don't plan to play them at this very moment.

TFS is mostly back up, thankfully for them, but the newest episodes are still missing.

I've been watching some of their LPs on TFS Gaming over the last week or so, and it's actually pretty funny. I recommend watching their DB Xenoverse playthrough if you want to give them some views.

Capcom announces PS4/Xbone re-releases for Resident Evil 6, 5, and 4 ... in that order, because they wanted to go from bad to good.

Also, Nintendo's having post-Iwata Nintendo Direct tomorrow, focusing on Pokemon. Today's been full of rumors on what will be announced, but I don't believe shit until it's from a Nintendo representative.

On the other hand, reducing competition by merging two giants together probably won't benefit the gaming industry either.

If Ubisoft is in a position to be bought out at all, they may be in some serious straights. Like it or not, if they can't find enough investors to keep solvent then this is a disaster of their own making.

I frowned at the gaming giants thing because "who the hell is Vivendi?" Then I looked it up ... oh. They probably have a lot of money.

Are they trying to buy out Ubisoft as a whole or just the Canadian branch?

It's almost certain they are going to buy Ubisoft for the IPs and dump the Vancouver studios, possibly giving some of the staff the option to move to the US for production.

While I agree in principle, the gaming industry seems to support indie developers well enough that it may not be a problem if two fading giants merge.

Honestly, I think right now, we're starting to see a shift in the old gaming giants.

We saw THQ fall, already. Konami is essentially all but gone as a game developer. Most of the big name developers these days have a bad name to them for various reasons, like EA and WB. I doubt those two will go away any time soon, but EA especially is a shadow of their past selves.

I'm sure I've said this before and I'm sure I'm preaching to the choir, but I think we'll start seeing a new wave of big name developers that started out as indie developers more recently. Like Devolver Digital, who have been making a name for themselves as an amazing indie game developer or publisher. I think the one to watch for is Hello Games, who started small with Joe Danger & Joe Danger 2, but now are on the cusp of releasing No Man's Sky. Provided the hype and build up is worth it.

Yeah, I mean it seems like the only publisher anyone has real faith in these days is Nintendo, of all things.

I worry that this acquisition will set a precedent, or even worse, cause the stagnation of another set of developers as it did with the SquareEnix merger. Ubisoft also seems pretty worried that the buyout could mean the closures of their Canadian studios, which is pretty rough.

Better known as Activision/Blizzard
And this is wrong, A/B bought out a majority of their shares and Vivendi doesn't have a controlling interest anymore. Happened almost 3 years ago.

Well in that case I don't know what the hell they own anymore, besides all other media.
