My Nintendo launched in Japan today. I'm looking at the points prospects, and Nintendo is really gunning for you to play Miitomo and earn Platinum points, because the Platinum points have way more value than the Gold you earn for actually buying stuff. With Platinum points, you can get discounts on great games, whereas with Gold, you can get some okay ones for free. And you earn a lot more Platinum for doing very little than the Gold, which takes a bit of adding up. For example, just logging in here and there and playing can get a few hundred Plats for themes and costumes in Miitomo, but spending $30 will get me just past halfway towards getting an old Gameboy game.
The griping may seem pointless because this is essentially the same conversion rate as Club Nintendo, but I was kind of hoping for something stronger, especially since as of yet, there's no clear cut method of getting credit for physical purchases (which is what I get for Wii U) and still no time table for tying games to the account system, although I probably shouldn't hold my breath on that happening before the NX.
