Video Game News and Miscellany

Welcome, brother. *bows* Thank God for Jim fucking Sterling, son.[DOUBLEPOST=1458169324,1458169244][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I've posted this before, but if you have the time, I highly recommend Jim's interview with Robert Romino of Digital Homicide. It's painfully uncomfortable to listen to, especially some of the ridiculous leaps in logic that Robert makes.

Oh, this is those same fucking people? Wow.

Oh hey, it embedded it automatically. Fancy.

This is quality shit, I'm laughing my ass off:
Jim: I apologize if I sound disrespectful, I'm just trying to parse the logic of your statements. I'm not sure what the weapon from Saints Row has to do with a game in which you're beating up the corpses of women.
Dh: Y-you think that a three foot purple dildo on your shoulder is respectful to your women viewers?
Jim: It's fucking longer than three foot, mate.

That's one of my favourite lines from the whole thing. What about the audio did you find assinine? Because I find it incredibly hilarious to listen to. I re-played the whole thing today while I cleaned my room.

Low sound quality recording, the length of a movie, of two people talking past each other and not accomplishing anything. The funny density (to me) is not high--I'd get far more out of one of his normal videos, or really any other media I regularly consume.

Also, I can read far quicker than I can listen, and if I'm going to be paying attention anyway...

All fair points, which I can understand. The only thing you'll miss that I don't think the text really shows is just how incredulous this guy becomes and how patient Jim is throughout the whole thing. Like, he constantly interrupts him, cuts him off, or talks over him. And then, accuses Jim of doing that. It's absolutely mind-boggling.

Oh no, that's coming through loud and clear. Side benefit of reading is I don't have to put up with the tone and emotion of idiots--same reason I tend to read what Trump says instead of watching it, when possible.

MY SIDES ARE IN ORBIT
Jim: (Laughing) You seem to think that's real. You seem to think... Do you think I'm actually breeding creatures in a laboratory somewhere to demolish public property?
Dh: You must not frequent my forums.

My Nintendo launched in Japan today. I'm looking at the points prospects, and Nintendo is really gunning for you to play Miitomo and earn Platinum points, because the Platinum points have way more value than the Gold you earn for actually buying stuff. With Platinum points, you can get discounts on great games, whereas with Gold, you can get some okay ones for free. And you earn a lot more Platinum for doing very little than the Gold, which takes a bit of adding up. For example, just logging in here and there and playing can get a few hundred Plats for themes and costumes in Miitomo, but spending $30 will get me just past halfway towards getting an old Gameboy game.

The griping may seem pointless because this is essentially the same conversion rate as Club Nintendo, but I was kind of hoping for something stronger, especially since as of yet, there's no clear cut method of getting credit for physical purchases (which is what I get for Wii U) and still no time table for tying games to the account system, although I probably shouldn't hold my breath on that happening before the NX.

Probably because Nintendo is notoriously draconian with takedown requests/lawsuits about anything remotely connected with their intellectual properties.

It's true, Nintendo and the internet don't seem to click. It kind of amazes me the WiiU didn't have a 28.8 modem in it.

While I don't always agree with him, Jim Sterling was a light in the darkness for me when it seemed like I was the only one who liked Dynasty Warriors games.
I don't care what anyone says, Dynasty Warrior games and the spinoffs with other characters (Gundam, Zelda, etc) are shitloads of mindless fun. Sometimes you just want to be a godlike hero-being cutting through enemies like paper.

Even though the realist in me knows it was because John Woo made it, I like to pretend that the Dynasty Warriors franchise is why they brought Red Cliff to American theaters.

Those games make tons of sales, I'm pretty sure you're not the only one that likes them.

I mean, I never said I'm the only one, considering I quoted someone who also likes them.

But generally they're pretty divisive in reviews, and even longtime fans complain of the sameness from game to game. None of that really bothers me, though, because I'm only there to cleave through some goons and take over some forts.

Microsoft asked Sony if they'd like to merge their online communities for some games, such as Rocket League. Sony was noncommittal, but not against it.

Hrm.

Fingers crossed. They've both been open to PC cross-play before, so I'm hoping they go for it. Naturally, they'll leave it up to the developers to figure it out, but I'm okay with that.

Bravely Second's US release will have a sidequest changed due to negative feedback from Japanese players.

Unlike random censoring, which I'm not a fan of, this one's fine. Apparently the end of this sidequest was pretty unsatisfactory to Japanese players and has been altered to be more digestible.

It sounds like for this sidequest, no matter what you chose, the game treated it as the wrong choice or at least a regrettable mistake. And that's bullshit.

Oh jeez, what they do isn't random censoring to begin with, it's called localizing.
I keep calling the GameFAQs people crybabies for getting upset about the removal of the boob slider and scantily-clad clothes for 13-year-olds in Xenoblade Chronicles X, or the removal of the face-petting mini-game and a certain offensive sidequest from Fire Emblem Fates (and now the stuff with Bravely Second), but I'll probably be bitching when it's time for Shin Megami Tensei IV Final to come to North America and someone blabs to Nintendo that there's a giant green dick in a chariot as one of the demons.

Localization can be censorship, or the reason for it. It gets called random for the inconsistency with which it is applied due to localization teams not being knowledgeable about what will fly and what won't, so it can seem arbitrary.
