What I should have said is that the sign is too thin to contain such technology without an external power source. And the RFID thing is just hogwash. Chances are good the little blue sign is just a fake warning that they are hoping cheaply prevents having to replace it weekly. I suppose they could have put something in the post, but again power is a limiting issue, and the cost of buying a tracking solution and paying for the service wouldn't be cheaper than replacing the sign every week.

Here's not too long ago when that sign didn't have the warning sign below it.
They fixed the problem at all the other intersections for that road by simply not having a road sign...
