Roundabouts aren't hard to drive through, and make for pretty quick traffic... In theory. The problem is that people are stupid and try to stop at them.
Really? Because my experience is that no one pays attention to traffic in the circle and they try to merge in whether they can or not.

...how is your refresh rate affecting your Internet speed? I'm confused.

--Patrick
The refresh rate helped with how text and images was displayed. I discovered this setting was off while researching why my internet speed was off. I was poking through everything since I'm not a wizard when it comes to Windows 10.

Roundabouts require attention and most people have learned to drive on autopilot while thinking about other things, depending on automated systems to direct them.

If you aren't interesting in driving then you'll hate roundabouts. If you actually drive you'll appreciate them for the additional freedom and speed they give everyone who's actually paying attention.

I've always been a recluse to some degree when it comes to family. I'm never around and I don't call or talk to my parents for weeks on end, even though I only live, maybe, 15 minutes away from them. And I just figured it out!

I'm sitting at work thinking how I should call my Mum and talk to her, ask how she's doing and it dawned on me why I'm never around. We have almost nothing in common. Which could be a sad revelation, but it actually makes me feel better knowing what keeps me away. Because I love my family, I really do, and I wish I had a stronger desire to be present, see them, but it's hard for me to bring up subjects that they don't care about. I don't want to go and sit in their house, prattling on about movies, video games, costumes, etc etc, wasting their energy on things they don't care to hear. HA! I figured it out! Now I know what to say when everyone tries to guilt trip me into spending time with them.

At least you have that excuse... I don't call because I'm a shitty son... I love both my parents, we get along great. My brother, sister and I all do well together, have mostly similar likes and interests... I'm just the only one who doesn't live in NE Alabama.

We're in the same situation, give or take 4000 miles. I started adding reminders on my calendar late last year to call my parents and brother regularly, and it has worked out pretty well. They remind me in turn when I need to call my extended family.

I'm not the only one who can't find work in Colorado Springs, but unlike my folks, I *have* to :p So that's why I'm in Texas. But, I've noticed over the last few years, even my relatives who live in this area - my maternal grandfather and uncles - don't seem as keen to get together and do stuff as much as they used to.

Same. I'm the only one who left SC. Can't say I miss it much. I miss rural life, but every time I go back there it feels like a parody of every redneck movie ever made.

I live about 5,000 miles from my hometown. I prefer it this way. Most of my family and friends of the family don't understand why. They don't need to. I get along better with my parents when I'm not near them. I'm much happier away from extended family with very little possibility of surprise drop-in visits. I call my mom once or twice a week to see what's going on with the family. Both of my parents are on FB. My mom has Instagram so she can see pics I post of the kids and things we're doing here. It's not like we aren't in touch. I just can't deal with living near them.[DOUBLEPOST=1463420488,1463420341][/DOUBLEPOST]

Even though I'm from NJ, the whole area around where I'm from is like this.

Yes, reading the things my family posts on Facebook makes me glad I don't live near them. My mom is always sad that we don't want to move back to the Northeast, but I am basically in love with Colorado.

Henderson Texas had a 5-way intersection that was handled for years with a HUGE roundabout. I guess they got tired of having traffic backed up during rush hour. Because several years ago they dug up the circle and replaced it with a traffic light. Now they don't have a traffic jam during rush hour. Now they have a traffic jam all fucking day. If you get caught by the red light, be prepared for over a 10 minute wait.
Longest I've ever had to wait for that intersection was 3 minutes. Granted, it wasn't during peak traffic time.

If you want to talk about roundabouts, Avon, CO, which has my favorite ski resort, has this main road which is just roundabout after roundabout, and is almost enough to make you dizzy. ;)

We have a light like this on the only major road to the rest of Virginia from my town. The light's already long, but during peak times, it actually gets longer. It can take 3-5 cycles to get through at peak, and can easily take 20 minutes.

I usually find it more convenient to cross state lines and do my shopping up in Maryland unless it's evening after rush hour.

Before I came up to Merrill, the main intersection in town was a stoplight, right on Central and 1st. The problem was, the intersection was located on the side of a hill that was a downslope to the foot of the Wisconsin River bridge. It was also located right at the corner of the courthouse, sheriff's office and city hall.

There are still many who complain about the roundabout, but apparently when the stoplight was in use, traffic was backed up all the way in multiple directions.

Aw man, I love getting my teeth cleaned. That scraper in the gums is like heaven. I mean it, no sarcasm.

Work days like this make me wish I'd thought to bring my 3DS. Library is closed at break/lunch due to testing, so there's basically nobody in here for most of the day.

It is taking every bit of willpower I have to not finish my son's easy for him so we can leave the library. We've been here for 2 and a half hours. -_-

I am interviewing interns today.

I am aware that when most people say that, it sounds moderately pervy at best, but when I say it, it sounds downright filthy.
We interviewed the last batch of interns today. We have only one internship position available in our department, so it's going to be a long process to whittle the candidate list until there's only one left.

My supervisor wants to hire the guy who's graduating from a translation graduate institute in June, and who has several years of experience in freelance translation and interpretation already. His performance in our translation test was exemplary, and he did it so fast he actually translated three test questions in the allotted time, when the test only asked for two.

I want to hire the girl in her third year of university, the one with the cute smile.

You're supposed to hire the one who will do the best job.
