Video Game News and Miscellany

I hope not.

Yeah, I'm wondering if not starting at launch will mean all these billions of planets will be claimed and named because the developers underestimate what we as a subculture are willing and able to do.
There's still plenty of space in Elite Dangerous that hasn't yet been explored.

You know, I've never really been a fan of SLI. I'm always hearing about how prone to problems it is, it makes case cooling THAT much more of an issue, reduces your available selection of motherboards, takes up twice as much room in your case, and all for a performance increase which, when it works right - and it doesn't always, will still probably be eclipsed by a single card of the same price point next generation. SLI is dumb. Instead of buying twice the cards, just buy one card that is more expensive, IMO.
Well guess what, it looks like if you want to SLI with more than two cards, you will have to get an unlock code from NVIDIA anyway. Yes, really.

It's really good.

You know what else is likely to be really good?

I'm so stoked. I actually bought the season pass a few weeks ago. I've been making my way through the New Game Plus right now and haven't been high enough level to touch the DLC stuff. I should be high enough level to do it by time Blood & Wine drops.

So, who thought this was a good idea?
A bro-tastic intro (for an indie game no less) that mocks anime fans... for a would-be successor to Mega Man. That's... that's just poorly thought out from start to finish. Well, if there's a silver lining here, at least this is one faceplant that can't be blamed on Dina, I suppose.

Also, those explosions look really bad. I mean, REALLY bad. They'd have been better off just sprite-animating them, if you ask me.

I've thought from the beginning that a lot of their problems would have been solved had they just gone with 2D sprites. Mega Man X is one of my favorite games, but when I played the 3D remake of it, I hated it, because even though the gameplay was the same, the 3D models didn't feel as tight and responsive as the original 2D version.

It can be done right, as Bionic Commando Rearmed demonstrated, but this doesn't look like they used the right source material... it looks Mega Man 7, and they should have skewed more to NES Mega Man games, IMO.

It looks like a canceled N64 reimagining of Bomber Man

Goat Simulator - Waste of Space

I'll, uh, I'll just leave this here. Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'll do. Kinda don't know how to react to it.

In news for a game where delays make more sense than in a side-scrolling platformer: No Man's Sky looks like it'll be delayed by another couple of months, if not longer.

Well, it's finally happened. You can now buy a PC game that you can't use a mouse/kbd to play.

Dangerous Golf requires PC players to use a controller
A lack of keyboard and/or mouse support is more than just a rarity in PC games; it's practically unheard of. Even when games are specifically designed for a handheld controller on another platform, the PC port usually offers some sort of option for the two input methods that have been standard on practically every home PC for the past two or three decades.
Predictably, the PC Master Race has reacted unfavorably.

A lot of the Capcom ports suck with keyboard and mouse. You can use them, but it's a pain in the ass, so they might as well not exist. E.g. RE4.

The article even mentions another game that is recommended to be played with a controller (analog sticks are key) but still built in some form of rudimentary keyboard support. With this golf game, though, the developers built in NO keyboard support, even though in this case there is no real significance as to why you would play with a controller.

If anything, the only mandatory non-kb controller for a golf game should be an oversized trackball.

Man, talk about flashbacks.

When I was a tiny kid, the club my grandparents belonged to had one of those and a bowling game. Trackballs for everyone!
