Minor victory thread

Collected data from 150 subjects through mechanical turk today. It took a little more than an hour, which is still blowing my mind. On top of that, the results appear to have replicated my student-collected data. Now I'm in a good position to write.

Really Google? No images of Donald Faison as Cyborg? Plenty of people saying he'd play a good cyborg but no shops.

My daughter is engaged to her several year long boyfriend. I'm happy for them, and hope they have a long, happy life together.

Now, we've gotta pay for a wedding. :Leyla:

I found a full bottle of gin in my pantry. To a normal liver that may seem like an epic win, but to me it's just ok. Cause 10 cent bottle deposit is 10 cents!

You get 10c even on non-carbonated bottles, too? Jealous...

Well, y'know, it's a deposit refund so we're just getting money back that we gave the government to hold for us so that we are encourage like hand-held toddlers to do the Right Thing, which in this case is making a trek to the store, guzzling gas in our pickup trucks, to get our gin bottle recycled.

I don't know why we don't just toss it in with the rest of our recycling - which includes soda bottles since we don't have deposits on those.

I bought a new receiver. The one I wired my living room for is about 14 years old, and it's time to put it out to pasture. It has no HDMI and only optical and coaxial digital. It was a nice one back in the day, but it's time to say so long.

Funny thing is (now that I think about it) that it never got used all that much because in that time we had napping babies and babies with early bed times, and in Boston we were on the top of a duplex, so it would've been rude to blast it. Then since we moved to TX, the kids are that age where they're always doing something and we hardly watch TV.

lawl, I'm still using the Kenwood RXD 500 I've had since high school, with dual cassette deck and 3-cd changer! Its only inputs are stereo RCA! (I plug it in from the headphone output on the TV).

Ha wow. I am surprised, though. I figured you'd have something fancier.

I am confused why many receivers don't come with HD radio tuners unless you step way up. My 5 year old car has an hd radio tuner.

Ironically, I've never been much of one for actually listening to the radio (unless I'm a captive audience, like at work or stuck in traffic), and things like Surround Sound never really caught on with me. I just something to push a pair of speakers that has decent frequency response for my TV these days, and it still works well enough that I don't feel the need to upgrade.

(note, the picture above is not actually my unit, just a picture of the model I googled up for reference).

I'm concerned about what kind of drink you're making with all of those ingredients, but then I remembered your ALF icon, and it all made sense: "Bloody Melmacian".
I came up with one but it's pretty yucky.

But on the other hand TIL about "Bloody Caesar."

We're still using the AWMS2 I bought back in 1995 or so.
CD player doesn't work (it's an old model whose stepper motor can't handle the tighter tracks of newer CDs but I ain't paying to have it upgraded) but it's more than good enough to hook to the TV.
