What are you playing?

Okage mother-fuckers! Been wanting to play this since I was a damn KID!

In order to save your sister from a horrible fate of pig-latin, you need to sell your soul and shadow to the evil lord King....Stan, and go on a quest taking out all the pretenders to the throne! It plays like a JRPG, but it reads like Monkey Island, I LOVE IT!

Y'know, I'm in the same boat. I started Witcher 1 a few days ago but right now I find I have no desire to continue, because the combat is really hard to get into. Should I just jump to Witcher 2? Will I be confused?

Witcher 2 seems to assume most people didn't play 1, as Geralt has amnesia. You will meet people from the first game, and they will fill you in on who they are, but they may or may not be telling the truth[DOUBLEPOST=1467188100,1467188067][/DOUBLEPOST]I picked this up during the sale, and don't regret it.

Spiritual Thief successor?

It's kinda like assassins creed, only set in the warhammer universe (albeit unofficially, Games Workshop doesn't have their logo anywhere on it, but it's clearly warhammer inspired, and it's by Cyanide, who make unofficial, and sometimes official, warhammer games). However, unlike Assassin's Creed, stealth is a much much bigger focus, since Styx is a small goblin who can't successfully fight off multiple humans in a fair fight.

I bought the Final Fantasy X remaster on Steam and finished the whole game for the first time in my life in like 2 weeks. God I loved the mechanics, probably peak turn based battle for me.

But then I tried to play X-2 which came with the bundle for the same price and I quit about 10 hours in, just couldn't hold my interest. Then the Steam Summer Sale hit and wanting to scratch that Final Fantasy itch bought XIII and pushing through the curve with the battle system was really beginning to enjoy it... but then i lost interest, more because the story was a pretty lame more than anything. Does it get any better?

I also semi-abandoned Metal Gear V, been feeling guilty about not playing it more but I'm not sure I dig the "open world but with missions" mechanic. Only played till like Chapter 2, though. Again, I ask you my gamer friends, should I push through and finish it or is it like I hear not really worth it?

If you want quasi-FF type gaming with a good story, try picking up the Grandia 2 remaster on steam. Steam sale has it for 10 bucks. I really enjoyed it, back in the 90s.

Huh, I can get it for less than 5 bucks with Steam's lovely pesos prices (seriously, we're hitting an all-time low with the Peso, 10 bucks would be almost 200 pesos now, but Steam keeps the prices in like 90's peso-to-dollar exchange rates, it's awesome).

I'll look into this cheap Grandia thing, seems exactly down my alley, thanks FartThief.

I've been told that FFXIII gets better once you're 80 hours in. I, for one, was not willing to make that sort of trek.

XIII actually does get better, but you have to drop like 20+ hours into it. If you don't make it that far, I don't blame you.

Grandia II is awesome and worth every penny.

I would avoid 13-2. though. I tried multiple times to play the game and just couldn't get into it at all.

Basically once the game unlocks all the classes for everyone and they stop splitting up constantly, the game starts getting better. At that point you can start focusing on the characters you actually want to use (I highly recommend Fang/Hope/Lightning, Fang is a physical powerhouse, Hope's magic is stupid high and Light is balanced) and build them how you want. It's also around the point that Lightning and Hope stop being mopey babies.

I'm trying to remember where you'd be in the game at that point. I think it happens sometime in Chapter 10 or so.

Plus there are a few areas where I really like the environment/soundtrack. I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

I actually kind hated a particular song they keep looping in the stage I was at when I lost interest, with only Hope and Lightning available. I actually think it was a factor for my dropping of the game. It had vocals, a feminine chorus poppy thing, it got stuck in my head in the most annoying of ways and I hate it.

It is promising that they stop being whiny assholes eventually AND that I can choose who the fuck to battle with, though. I've been hating the forced pairings, too.

As far as I'm concerned, if it takes the full length of many other games before your game starts to get good, then your game is a bad game.
Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. Although to be fair, Final Fantasy fans are used to it being a marathon experience, so long intros make a bit more sense in this case. The frustrating part is that mechanically it's pretty fucking fun, but you get glimpses of how much more fun it COULD be and they don't let you get there with stupid storyline reasons. Stupid, stupid storyline, btw. I mean, FF has never really had exceptional storytelling, but XIII is being particularly bad so far, IMHO.

The problem is they took the wrong ideas from FFX's success and ran with them, on top of the director of the XIII series having Waifu Syndrome over Lightning. They took the "cinematic storytelling" experience in X and ramped it up to about an 11 on the volume knob, and removed basically all free-roaming and backtracking. Even the more open maps in the late-game are surprisingly compact. I don't think it's the worst FF game (I leave that to XIII-2 or maybe II), but it's got a lot more faults than positives. At this point I'm just hoping they've learned their lesson and XV will be something great.

Speaking of XV, I see they say the battle system is going to be like Type-0, which is also on Steam but I've never played. Seems like it's more of a beat-em up thing? Is Type-0 good? The Sale does make it tempting...

I really like Type-0. Combat is more action-oriented and you choose your party from a pretty big list of students in this military academy (14 kids or something like that). Each one has a unique weapon, and through that changes how they control in combat. There's also the usual Magic and such, too.

So for the Light vs Dark event in Star Wars: The Old Republic, I created three new characters (because apparently part of the event is making a new Bounty Hunter). They are:

Jedi Knight (LS) Mahavari Isha, Togruta Male
Sith Inquisitor (DS) Xenophon Djoenis, Rattataki Male
Bounty Hunter (LS) Zhora Feral, Sith-Zabrak* Female

* - because apparently the Zabrak for Empire classes, and regular Zabrak for Republic classes, are different.

They are, culturally. Biologically, they are not.

I have a Smuggler up and running, and I'll be doing a Sage next (as those are the only two I didn't ALREADY have to 50 so getting them to 50 is the most important thing for me right now).

What server are you on?

Ebon Hawk (formerly of Rubat Crystal), but I have no idea how much I'll be playing. I play SWTOR on top of ESO (my main), STO (my side), and other games like SMITE.
Ah, okay. I'm on Shadowlands. I only have 1 character that's over level 50 - most of mine are in the 20s, hanging out in rest zones or strongholds and doing their crafting skills.

My level 65, Strayervoight the Relentless, Human Male Bounty Hunter Mercenary, (Light IV) is currently on Ilum doing the Gree event. When that's done, it's back to Makeb to do the Rise of the Hutt Cartel, then Shadow of Revan, then start Knight of the Fallen Empire. Also reverse engineering pretty much everything he can via Armormech, so at this point he has most of the regular and enhanced armor set plans up to level 40.

Azura T'Loak the Merciless, lvl 26, Chiss Female Bounty Hunter Powertech (Dark II) is on Dromund Kaas, doing the Great Hunt prep missions. For a while she had the ugliest armor (Alusteel Asylum armor http://tor-fashion.com/alusteel-asylum-imp/) but now Strayervoight has made her an entire set of Krayt Dragon Asylum armor, which looks great. http://tor-fashion.com/krayt-dragon-asylum-imp/

Tarth Vayder the Merciless, lvl 24, Human Female Sith Warrior Juggernaut (almost at Light I) is on Dromund Kaas, doing heroics and working for Darth Cartman (Baras). Also doing a FUCKTON of synthweaving. I've picked up over two dozen schematics for it along the way.

Corvus Fitzroy the Keeper of Truth, lvl 24, Human Male Jedi Sage (Light I) is on Coruscant, doing a lot of artificing and doing a decent amount of trade in relics, foci, generators, and lightsabers. He's the one that looks uncannily like Michael Biehn from The Abyss.

Vander'vecken the Uncompromising, lvl 23, Twi'lek Male Scoundrel (Light I) is on Coruscant, hanging in a cantina in a VIP booth near the Old Galactic Market while sending Corso on slicing missions. Vander'vecken doesn't craft, but with scavenging, bioanalysis, and slicing, he's great at gathering stuff for the others and making money and getting schematics.

Lieutenant Gunn'hildr the Uncompromising, lvl 20, Mirulian Female Commando (Neutral) is on Coruscant, currently fighting Black Sun and making weapons she's not high enough level to use.

Agent Bucky Wintersol, lvl 19, Cyborg Male Operative (Neutral) is on Dromund Kaas, mostly doing cybertech, since that's used for mods, enhancements, grenades, earpieces, spaceship parts, etc.

Padawan Mahavira Isha, lvl 8, Togruta Male Jedi Knight (Neutral, but will go Light Side) is on Tython, having just rescued T7-O1 from the Flesh Raiders.

Xenophon Djoenis, lvl 2, Rattatki Male Sith Inquisitor (Neutral, but will go Dark Side) is on Korriban. So far I've played him for like 10 minutes.

Zhora Feral, lvl 1, Zabrak Female Bounty Hunter (Neutral, will go Light Side) is on Hutta. Finished talking to Braden, Jory, and Mako, logged out.

Accent is a bit rough but you'll get a good idea.

Witcher 3 plays well without knowing the rest but ultimately it's a good background.

Enjoy the game.
