Comic Book News

Odds are this isn't everyone, either, just the ones they're going to focus on for awhile/until the next reboot.

Keep in mind these are renditions by one artist when usually there are different artists on different books, so I wouldn't take this as indicative of anything going forward visually. I get annoyed when some artists try to draw Ms. Marvel and they essentially just draw a white girl and then darken her skin instead of actually looking at Kamala Khan, but it's just that artist, not officially a change.

This seems very much about the new guard rather than the old. I don't know if that means those books are being cancelled, or it could be that those characters don't have a stake in whatever this divide is about. We'll probably know more on July 13 when Marvel releases their big Marvel Now 2016 preview. I have a hard time seeing them spontaneously cancel titles that are doing well such as Amazing Spider-man.

I'm also noticing that that's Cho Hulk, not Banner, which to me lends more credence to the really fucking dark theory that Captain Marvel is just going to kill Bruce in cold blood while he's currently incapable of becoming the Hulk. That probably won't happen, but the way she's being characterized for Civil War II, I could see things going that route.
Yeah it's Deodato and his Poser tracing garbage, why they would use him, of all people, for a promo image baffles me.

Right, but not like they're cancelling Peter Parker or Tony Stark's books.

From an article I read earlier this morning, these are characters who will be involved in new titles, either getting solo series or involved in a new team. Some of them that already have solo series I assume are getting thrown onto teams (again I'm sure there will be a younger Avengers group headlined by Ms. Marvel, Spider-man, and Nova). Curious what the hell team they're going to throw Gwenpool on, because without Christopher Hastings doing the writing, I doubt she's going to be much good. Not to mention, in a more serious book her fourth wall stuff would be distracting, I assume.

Again crossing my fingers for an America Chavez solo series, with a writer imaginative enough to make the best uses of her ability to traverse the multiverse as she pleases.

We'll know in 12 days.

Is...is that Slapstick I see in that promo pic?
Yes. Here's the full list:

The left side of the image features Solo, Foolkiller, Jessica Jones, Quake, Captain Marvel, Elektra, Thor Odinson, American Kaiju or Fin Fang Foom, Victor Von Doom, Slapstick, Captain America (Steve Rogers), Black Panther, Gamora, and Cable.

The other side features Gwenpool, Mosaic, Miss America Chavez, Squirrel Girl, the All-New Wasp, Prowler, Moon Girl, Riri Williams from the current “Invincible Iron Man” series, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), the Hulk, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Ms. Marvel, and Stephen Strange.

Yeah, I guess Riri Williams is the new War Machine. Though with the helmet on, she looks an awful lot like the recent Jim Gordon version of Batman.

Meanwhile, this is happening and IT. IS. GLORIOUS.

I demand Marvel retroactively add that glorious Thunderbolt moustache back on him in all his previous appearances.

Other than hiding who he is and preserving their mystery as to who this new super badass character that is totally rad and can beat up Thor and Silver Surfer with ease is, I never understood why he didn't have it the whole time.

I think the answer boils down to two simple words:

Because Loeb.

That's easy, Loeb had to figure out who Red Hulk was supposed to be first.

Al Ewing, one of the best writers to come out of Britain in the last several years, writing a book where Sunspot, Brazilian mutant super-hero, leads a team of American patriotic characters, in what looks like a continuation of his New Avengers run. Yes please.

I like. Hopefully he gets to keep writing The Ultimates too.

I especially like the daughter of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as the Captain America from the future.

No US Agent?!
He and American Kaiju are both in it according to the announcement article I read, but the above is more the core members while they're kind of sidekick members.

I don't mind the design in Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, but it wouldn't work here. And she certainly looks better than in the Divided We Stand promo. What's weird is that it's supposedly American Kaiju on one side of the rift and Squirrel Girl on the other, but here they're on the same team ... so maybe that foot is Fin Fang Foom after all.

In any case, I'll be picking this one up when it starts and see how it goes. I'll probably be saying that for a number of these if they sound interesting enough. DC Rebirth stuff was supposed to fill out the gaps Marvel left me with due to stupid Civil War II shit, but I have a feeling Superman isn't going to pass the cull test. I'll at least ride that one out through the first story arc.[DOUBLEPOST=1467454394,1467454351][/DOUBLEPOST]
Is Squirrel Girl the new Wolverine? Like, on every team?
I think the team book she's currently in is ending, so this will be the only team she's on unless Marvel Now announces others.

I don't think Marvel has any Godzilla rights right now besides their older stuff. Toho likes to keep strict expiration dates on such things.

Crossover comic then, I'm easy! Bring in the version of Fredzilla that ACTUALLY looks kinda like Godzilla and it'd rule, unlike the movie version which looks like Sky Deviler from Kaiju Big Battel.
