[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Hey, dickbag who decided to pull out from the right turn only lane right in front of me so I had to slam on the brakes: it's not a good idea to do that. Second, it's also bad idea to then stop in said lane, holding up traffic so you can cross yet another lane to get to the left turn lane. Third, it's an even worse idea when said left turn lane is already full of cars, completely blocking you out. You complete fucking moron.

That happens ALL THE TIME around here. When you live in a college town, most of the drivers are inexperienced because they've only been driving for a year or two. There are always fender benders in my neighborhood. The body shops love it when the semester starts because that's when business rolls in.

Funnily enough, the only political ad buy we have right now comes from the Democrat National Committee, on our urban format station.[DOUBLEPOST=1476300145,1476300084][/DOUBLEPOST]

Don't even get me started on the Blinndergartners. One of those in daddy's expedition ran a light and totalled my car a few years back.

Unfortunately, this awareness-deficient fellow doesn't have the excuse of inexperience; 'twas a middle-aged man in a minivan.

Holy Shit! I ran a stop light today. I never commit moving violations in city limits.

I was following about 3 car lengths behind an 18-wheeler. He was going slow, but not too far under the speed limit. I had a right turn coming up in a few blocks. So I did not want to pass him then come to nearly a complete stop in front of him. Well, even with the gap I left between us I could not see that the light was red until after I was in the intersection.

It is also a ticket for an 18 wheeler to be on that section of city street.

I guess he ran the light too, and I had too little time to react.

A buddy of mine just lost his job. It's happened to him a few times lately and he's really taking it hard. Luckily he's single, but he's having a hard time shaking it off no matter what I try and say. I gave him a place to crash if he needed it, but he turned me down. I worry about the guy, though. Like many people, he's had depressive episodes and I fear that this will not help a bit. I hate seeing good people going through shit like this, especially when it's not really their fault.

About a year ago I was stopped at the Wellborn-Villa Maria intersection. This one chick ran a red light. It would have been fine if she'd just rolled right through but instead she came to a dead stop in the middle of the intersection and tried to reverse back to the light. That's when she got t-boned by an SUV that had the right of way but wasn't paying attention. I called 911 and stuck around with some other motorists until the cops came. When I left the chick was alive if barely conscious and the SUV people didn't have a scratch.

The worst is when you get to University and Boyett. That's when you not only have idiot drivers but idiot pedestrians stumbling out of the bars.

I try to stay off University Drive in all situations whenever possible.

Incidentally, my crash was literally in the Rustling Oaks entrance intersection to Blinn on Villa Maria. Which is also a bad intersection for another reason entirely - at night, northbound, the pattern of light and shadow made by the streetlight on that intersection's pavement creates an illusory mirage of a curb in the left lane that isn't really there. I've been the passenger in many a car that has slammed on their brakes in panic because of the curb illusion suddenly registering in their vision.

I do'nt think people buying at NewEgg were doing so because it was a Real American Company Keeping Jobs Here, or anything like that, so unless the Chinese investors are idiots, you shouldn't see much change at first.

I used to buy there for pricing, but really Microcenter is just as cheap and I can have it right now since it's a brick and mortar. Hell, Best Buy typically has the same price as Amazon lately, and you can also have it right now.

I mostly used newegg because they were the least pain in the ass for processing returns - they took care of you after the sale. We shall see if that changes.

Well, if you live near one. Going to my closest best buy is a 3 hour trip[DOUBLEPOST=1476547357,1476547223][/DOUBLEPOST]

Oh yeah, this. Amazon has been good to me, too, but I've returned many a faulty motherboard or so to Newegg for a quick replacement.

... Some of which I broke myself. Those pins are delicate...

Whenever I need to buy parts I always go to buildapc.com and they pick the best price, regardless of where it's from. Still, if Newegg was close to the price that was lowest, I'd almost always change it to them. Too bad I don't do it enough to be a factor.[DOUBLEPOST=1476561722,1476561667][/DOUBLEPOST]My minor rant: I had to buy my son's plane ticket today. Almost $500. Leaves me with not too much money for the week. We'll make it, but damn I thought I'd start getting ahead.

Instructions from client: "Make sure you don't do X."
We make sure we don't do X.

Feedback from client: "Change it so that you do X instead."
We fix the translation so that we now do X.

Angry feedback from client: "We told you not to do X!"
Us: "But... you told us to do X in your feedback."
Client: "No we didn't! Now we're going to slash your fee!"

This has happened something like three times in the last week alone.

A very well known problem. You'd be surprised how many people give clear instructions à la "don't call us for technical problems, just [X], only call us for real burglary/fire/etc", then next month complain when they weren't called about some broken detector or the like, insist they be called for every issue, then complain because they're awoken from their sleep three times a week, rince and repeat.

It's why we insist every change in procedure or communication has to be done in writing. Been burned too often with changes made by phone. Producing records of the phone calls is possible but more trouble than just replying to their mail.

My buddy who was in charge of buying the tickets for some friends and I to all go see Roger Waters next summer accidentally bought our tickets for the wrong show, at $200 a pop.

The plan was to see the denver show in June. He accidentally bought for the Dallas show in July.

It was supposed to be kind of a "20 year reunion" of our high school clique (the six guys you see in my old firework videos) We had a vrbo lined up and stuff.

Actually, Dallas would naturally be more convenient for me - I could drive instead of fly. But that's a +$1200 "oops." And I think my colorado friends are/will be pissed.

Well, it turns out my friend was just busting our balls - or, specifically the balls of the Colorado friends who were badmouthing Texas. Kind of a weak joke, but looks like the tickets were bought for the Denver show after all.

And I just realized that's the first weekend of June... that's when my family reunion is. It'll be the first one I've missed in almost 20 years. DOH.
