Funny (political, religious) pictures

If you ask me, that might have been part of the problem.
I dunno, Jesus is looking prreeeeeetttty good right there. If someone offers me the body of Christ, I'm going to say "AMEN!"

(Uggh, I can't believe I wrote that. Your CCD money at work, Mom and Dad.)

8 years of it and I still don't remember what it stands for.

....oh. "Confraternity of Christian Doctrine". I guess it's not "Central City Dump" like we used to say.

I didn't have to do CCD because I just went to Catholic school through 8th grade and had religion as a graded subject. :/

Actually, I guess I went to CCD for 9th grade, but it was basically a joke at that point and I didn't have to go anymore after Confirmation.

Am I the only one who has mostly positive memories about religion in his youth and still decided to leave it?

I got the protestant sampler platter for most of my formative years, being in the military and moving around frequently. Baptist, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Methodist, I've attended em all, pretty much. Sang in the kid's choir. Enjoyed it all. Stopped attending around the 8th grade or so, though.

I've been atheist from birth. Only ever been to church once . . . to hit on a girl.

(not counting weddings and funerals, and tourist stuff, etc)

I'll tell you this much, there's something fucking creepy about being alone in the sanctuary when it's not in use. The silence reverberates, and presses down on you like the stern disapproval of God.

The man who created Gasbandit's House of Reprehensible Filth feels the disapproval of God while in church.

You don't say.

I grew up very Catholic, attended mass every Saturday night with my mom, altar boy, etc. Nothing negative to say about the church. My priest, Father Charlie (yup!), was a great man.

Still wouldn't call myself a Catholic now, other than to argue with protestant friends who are still religious. My favorite part is when they try to separate Christianity and Catholicism. This always ruffles my feathers.

I was the national youth representative for my church. In my junior/senior year of high school I was the Iowa delegate to the United Church of Christ General Synod and later the National representative to a World Body meeting.

Yeah, I used to be REALLY religious.

And then you met Jesus and decided he was a jerk?
I started reading the bible, started traveling outside my little small town Iowa bubble, saw things that a good god would not allow, saw good people get shit on while bad people prospered. Saw starving kids. Saw a guy blow his brains out. Started learning about other religions and science and realized that they all couldn't be right.

I started thinking for myself instead of letting others do it for me.

And coincidentally enough I just had a religious couple knock on my door and want to convert me. I have no idea what denomination they were, but the guy wanted to argue with me. Like, after I told him I was an atheist he wanted to question me as to why and started telling me about the relevant bible verses to do so. I told him that so far we'd been polite, I was not going to change my views and he was not going to change his, so we should just politely part on good terms. His response was, "We can be polite, but we aren't on good terms since you don't accept Jesus."

I went off on him. No forgiveness? 70x7? No love your neighbor? I told him that even were I religious I would be repulsed by his utter disregard of the word his church tries to teach. His wife never said a word. Suffer not a women to speak, I guess.

Fuck that guy. There's more to it but when he left he said, "I'll see you in the afterlife when you are burning." I said, "Enjoy your empty box of nothingness as all you've ever done has no meaning."
