What are you playing?

5 moments of airtime? As in the roller coaster leaves the track 5 times in a single ride? AND it goes over 200 mph?

Are you training astronauts? :p

My Summer Car -

Got back into it since the latest patch added a new revenue source - finding old wrecks and towing them to the auto shop for phat cash. Hopped in the septic truck, pumped 4 septic tanks and found a wreck next to the radio tower. Towed it to Fleetari's auto shop. I made about 10 grand in one day, though I had to spend about a 1k of it on diesel for the septic truck. Also I had to kind of sploit my payment away from Fleetari since I got there after he closed, and the door was locked, but I was able to "lean" forward through the wall he's next to and get paid from him that way. And I also figured out how to use the spray paint, so now my car doesn't look like a rolling tetanus vector.

On the not-so-awesome front, though, I discovered the source of my recent performance issues. I got a second monitor working a few days back by reactivating my onboard intel gpu and plugging a monitor into it. Turns out, it seems nvidia drivers HATE this, so my FPS started flip-flopping every few seconds between 30 and 60 fps, which is unacceptable (oh how times change). Confirmed this by disabling the intel gpu in device manager, bam, solid 60fps on the GTX1060 again. I guess if I want a second monitor on this rig, I'm gonna have to buy a new one that supports displayport... as the 1060 only has one DVI socket and no VGA - just 4 displayports.

Edit - or maybe not.

Decided to go back to playing Pillars of Eternity since I never did do the White March expansions. Started over because it's just what I do when I go back to play a long ass game that has excellent expansion content. Fuck I love these new classic style games. I can't wait for Torment. I hope we get some more Tyranny out of Obsidian. These are my bag.

I know I said I'm done with Subnautica for now, and I really am, but before I put it aside I decided I was going to build a seabase in an underwater cave full of gigantic translucent fluorescent mushrooms. There is no real benefit to building a seabase here. There are some resources, yes, but they can be harvested without having to establish a full base. The area is full of aggressive critters, and it's rather deep underwater, which means even getting down here is not a trivial task, never mind actually building the base. There is seriously no good reason to build a base here, apart from "it looks cool."

And boy does it ever! :D

I'm vacillating about implementing the "reset resources" workaround to fix the crashes and fooling around with it more, myself.

I assume it's bus contention at work. The onboard video has to share your system RAM, so the game and the onboard video are both fighting for access to your RAM, which means a trip to lag city.

The wierd thing is it is intermittent, but regular. Like, I get 60 fps for 8 seconds... then 30 for 8 seconds... lather, rinse, repeat. Anyway, the DP-to-DVI cable is on its way, hopefully that'll solve the problem.

I'd say go for it. The game in its current state is best played as a sandbox, where you explore and mess around, because so much is unfinished. So you might as well use whatever workarounds are available to you to accomplish this, and then play "properly" when a stable build comes out.

Super Meat Boy

I was hanging out at a friend's place yesterday. He has an Xbox One with a bunch of games on the hard drive. I went through the library and for some reason, Super Meat Boy jumped out at me. I've owned it for years and played it many times, but of all the games, that's the one that I felt like playing.

And now I'm hooked on it again, playing it on my computer. Worse, I'm not only trying to play through the game, but beat all the levels at A+, collect the bandages, and unlock warp zones. I honestly forgot how great this game is and the sheer amount of content is has to unlock.

Good luck beating your Super Meat Boy.

Holy shit you guys.. World of Warcraft: Legion is good. Really damn good. I've had it awhile but never did the legion stuff because I didn't have a level 100.

Well, I decided to use the free character boost that came with the game to get my shaman up to 100, and goddamn this shit is good. I didn't expect much after hating the last two expansions, but they've really redeemed themselves.

I don't normally achievement hunt, but I wanted to do some different stuff in Shovel Knight.

Last night I did the deathless run (and some associated achievements). I may actually platinum something with a higher difficulty than the low bar of Persona 4: Dancing All Night.

I'd try it with Dark Souls because I love it so much, but some of the achievements are less "this is hard to do" and more like "this is tedious." That said, I wouldn't mind getting all the miracles with a cleric character. I'm just not sure how possible that is in the event that any are covenant-based. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 are kinda ghost towns these days. I really wish they'd re-release both games. Rumor has it that Nintendo Switch will be getting a Dark Souls Trilogy Edition ... so I feel like they do that for PS4/Xbox One.

If anything, I'd love to play Dark Souls without some of the framerate potholes scattered here and there. Wow, this post went on detours ...

There are a few miracles associated with the Warrior of Sunlight, Gravelord, and Blade of the Darkmoon. I'm not sure if these count to the trophy, so you should check.

Blade of the Darkmoon: You can farm the Souviners of Reprisal by killing the Crow Demons in the Painted World of Ariamis or by engaging in it's PVP stuff. Grants Darkmoon Blade miracle, which is basically a miracle version of Magic Weapon that gets stronger as the covenant increases.

Gravelord: You need Eyes of Death for this covenant. You can farm those from Basilisks in the Depths or Great Hollow. You can also buy 3 from Patches, get three from a chest in the Catacombs, and find 3 in Tomb of the Giants. Gravelord Dance is the miracle from this, which lets you use Nito's blade ability he uses in his fight. You also get to use his sword, which is great early on for Faith builds but requires Demon titanite to level so it lags behind.

Warrior of Sunlight: You basically NEED to do co-op for this; ether you or someone on your team needs to be in the Covenant in order to get Sunlight Medals. However, the Lightning Spear miracle line is fantastic.

Dammit, in the first game jumping covenants resets them, so you pretty much have to finish out each one by one and then essentially abandon it.

It's funny how easy it is to do Warrior of Sunlight in the other games, whereas in the first one you can't even join until you have 40 faith, IIRC. But once you get it, it's easy to level. Everybody loves a sunbro!

This is probably not an undertaking I'll be doing any time soon, but I appreciate knowing there's an alternative way to get souvenirs of reprisal, and that you can cheese getting the eyes of death since most of those you'd need for the miracle are lying around in the single-player.

No, it's 25 faith... but you can subtract 5 for every boss you've helped defeat as a White Phantom. So if you've helped kill 4 bosses, you only need 5.

EDIT: You can also get... what, 2-3 medals a game from finding them in the game and saving Lautric? You CAN get it done solo that way but it takes FOREVER.

Party Hard

I think I got this through a Humble Bundle some time ago. Anyway, I was in the mood for something different so I tried this last night. It's basically a stealth murder game where you need to kill every person at a party.

It's okay, but it got old fast. I played a few levels, but I've already deleted it off my computer. I might revisit again sometime if I'm in the mood.

Hopefully there are still enough people who need help (though I still really really want a re-release).

I'd rather kill Lautrec for the Darkmoon item anyway.

And because I enjoy killing him :troll:

Ahh... but you get both the Sunlight medal AND the Souvenir of Reprisal. You get the medal after you let him out, you get the souvenir after you kill him after invading him.

SWTOR:

I'm finding the Sith Inquisitor story arc to be surprisingly good, with a few moments of weakness that hold it back from being truly great. The Sith Inquisitor is one of the funnier characters, behind the Smuggler, particularly in his more "differently rational" moments. And with the exception of the entirely superfluous Xalek, he has one of the best groups of companions in the game.

Khem Val is an 8 foot force-user eating monster who has been trapped for eons after serving one of the greatest Sith Lords in history, and he makes it very clear that he initially finds serving you to be an appalling demotion. Despite that, he has a unique charm to him and his slightly antagonistic relationship with the Inquisitor is surprisingly well done. It also makes it more emotionally resonant when your character manages to impress him, and when events take a turn in the plotline it actually matters. Also, mechanically, he's a melee tank with powerful hits and AoE damage, which is a great pairing for a squishy wizard or sneaky rogue (basically the two specializations for Inquisitor).

Andronikos Revel is a space pirate (previously a space cowboy) who's personal quest for vengeance runs into your quest for an artifact, and despite being billed a violent loner, rather easily (and wisely) decides that teaming up is a much better way of going about it, and once that's done, he decided to stick around because, well, you've got a ship and freedom to more or less go where and do whatever you want. He kind of takes a lot of the Sith weirdness in stride and is generally a useful companion with a good array of spacer lore that helps with your mission. Mechanically, he's ranged DPS / tank and is quite an asset for a melee-centric Sith Assassin.

Ashara Zavros is a Togruta Padawan chafing under the tutelage of some particularly stupid Jedi Masters. Proud, passionate, and an exceptional fighter, she is frequently admonished for her aggressive nature and willingness to do what is necessary to achieve the objectives. At one point, her Master needs a team to repel a Sith / Imperial assault. He names several students, not including her. She says, "Master, I should go with you, I'm the most skilled with a lightsaber of all your students. (one of the students named) barely knows which end the blade comes out of." The Master says, "You need to learn restraint, obedience, and to show compassion for people not as skilled as you are. Stay here and watch the supplies or meditate or whatever." Needless to say, when the Sith Inquisitor shows her some forbidden knowledge from a Holocron (her own Masters wouldn't give her access to a Holocron) and appreciates her for her Sith-like qualities, she goes over pretty quick. Especially when its clear that her Masters are incompetent. That being said, she maintains that she is Jedi (unlike Jaesa) and never goes Dark - she attempts to convince the Inquisitor to ally with "Grey" Jedi in order to bring peace to the Galaxy as a whole. Essentially, she realizes that if the Jedi drive back the Sith, they'll go underground, scatter, and build up in secret to enact their revenge later (which is precisely what they'd done leading to the prior conflict); if the Sith conquer the Jedi, they'll immediately start fighting among themselves and collapse their Empire from infighting; only a group that is both and neither can bring a lasting peace. Mechanically, she's a melee character with dual lightsabers and the love interest for the male Sith Inquisitor. The relationship is actually pretty well done, and her friendships and lack thereof with other characters is mentioned as well - Andronikos shows her how to pilot the ship and tells her spacer stories, etc; Zash mentions that Ashara clearly doesn't trust her when they work together (and that's a compliment; Zash should NOT be trusted), etc.

Talos Drellik is an extremely gifted, if eccentric, Imperial Reclamation Services officer. An expert at deciphering clues and getting into ancient tombs, temples, etc, he's naturally quite useful to the Inquisitor and given that the first half of the Inquisitor's storyline is basically "go to this ancient place, get the artifact, etc", he's extremely keen on hearing about the Inquisitor's exploits and sharing in them. Optimistic, energetic, clever, and quirky, he finds the entire "absorbing Sith Ghosts" part of the story to be incredible. His view is that the Empire can learn a lot from studying its past - the leaders, the events, the bloodlines, all of them form a foundation for the current Empire to build on. He finds Khem Val fascinating but admits that Val doesn't like him much - Khem Val only respects strength and Talos isn't a mighty warrior (though he's no slouch, he's just not a powerhouse).

Xalek is a very good character concept that is added to the game so late that he barely matters to the story. He's a Kaleesh, which is the same species that General Grievous started out as. He's more or less a 'trophy apprentice' that the Inquisitor acquires to show off with; an apprentice from Korriban Academy is considered to be a mark of distinction for a Darth (this is mentioned both in the Sith Inquisitor storyline and in the Sith Warrior storyline). He is an expert killer using a double-bladed lightsaber and seeks to attain Sith Lord status because that would make him like a demigod in his people's culture. He barely interacts with anyone else in your crew and is blunt and to the point.

Far Cry 3

Bought this when it was on sale along with Subnautica, and now that I'm done with Subnautica for now I fired this up. Pretty good, pretty good. It offers the kind of open-world gameplay I enjoy. The mechanic of climbing towers to reveal the map, collecting stuff, looting corpses for stuff, stealthily killing enemies, killing enemies by dropping on top of them from above... all remind me of a first-person version of a certain other Ubisoft series. Fortunately, I like Assassin's Creed, so I'm having quite a lot of fun here.

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna)

Another game from a Humble Bundle or Bundle Stars, and one I'm very happy to have in my library.

It's a simple 2D platformer and not all that challenging. Short, too, since I beat it in one sitting. But it's absolutely gorgeous. The game is based on Iñupiat (Alaskan Inuit) culture, told like a fable. In fact, the narrator speaks in their language throughout the whole game. So the setting is exclusively arctic. You run into polar bears, evil spirits, and other surprises. The art style and overall presentation make up for such a simple platformer. Even better, you can collect documentary videos with more on the history and culture of the Iñupiat people. I haven't had the chance to watch those yet, but I will. I missed 2 or 3 collectibles, so I'd like to go back and get those before watching the videos.

So yeah, while I don't regret not paying a lot for it, I'm happy to have played it and definitely recommend it if you're interested and can get it on sale or in a bundle.

I completed a low chaos/nonlethal runthrough of Dishonored.

Now I'm gonna play through it again, hewing my way through everything in my path, leaving oceans of blood and piles of body parts in my wake.
