What are you playing?

Yeah, not enough dead people limos, which is what I am saying because Google voice recognition doesn't seem to understand the word for what that is, is a constant struggle especially in the later game. You will just have to resign yourself to putting in crematoriums on every 4th or 5th block of high-density Zones.
Which then fill the air with the polluting stench of charred corpses.

I think I'm just going to rename this city "Hell" and roll with it.

Actually the crematoriums are very low pollution, but you can try it with cemeteries if you really want to.

I've been playing Mortal Kombat XL on PC, and here's a mini review: It's good!

MKX had a lot of problems on PC when it first launched, which has come to be expected from WB published games. Things then got worse when it was announced that the upgraded version of the game, Mortal Kombat XL, would not be coming to PC, things got even worse. XL wasn't just a GOTY edition with all of the DLC, but was also a direct upgrade to the game itself with bug fixes and some much needed improvement to the netcode. Not only was it going to be console only, but PC was not going to get some of the later DLC either, as WB at the time was pulling PC support from their first party games. There was a lot of obvious backlash, and eventually WB relented and started to give the game the PC support it deserved.

Cut to today, and the game finally has the PC love it needed. And it plays really, really well. Netcode is good, it runs at a rock solid 60fps and looks gorgeous cranked up to ultra on a system that can support it. As far as Mortal Kombat games go, it's probably the best one I've played in a long while, and I greatly enjoyed the MK9 reboot put out some years ago. I've found that I even like the WB owned guest characters that were added, with The Predator becoming my favorite character.

I will have to consult Dr. Google but I'm thinking that if you get a Pokémon battle where an alternate evolution of the Pokémon spawns that a shiny one isn't possible.

I decided to try for a few more shiny Eevees and each time around 50ish an Espeon was called in. The first time, I killed it and continued for an embarrassingly long time only to see another Espeon. The second time, I just caught it. Timer balls are awesome for these battles :)

I didn't see any answers to my question when I googled it that made any sense so I tried again to find a shiny. I think that my first one must have just been really lucky to have come so early. I got a second shiny Eevee but only after a scary long SOS chain. I think I'm done shiny hunting for a while.

The Howler

I stumbled across this game awhile back, put it on my wishlist, and snagged it dirt cheap during the holiday sale. It's only $1 without discount, so it must've been super dirt cheap.

Anyway, the game requires a microphone because you move your hot air balloon by speaking. It's tricky because the wind changes depending on your elevation level.

I streamed it for a friend of mine, who cracked up at a few things I did:
-Popped the balloon on a crucifix attached to one building, to which I shouted "Damn you Christianity!"
-In honour of him seeing an NXT show live last night, I played a whole level singing this:

Fun little game. I doubt I'll play it much, but it's fun. Might be one to pick up during a sale and then stream or show to friends.

I purchased Huniepop on sale, based on the strength of Reina Scully's review of it on Hot Pepper Gaming.

Yeah, it's a dating sim. But with a genuinely fun puzzle game built in. I've almost completed the unlockable characters, but this has proven to be genuinely worth the sale price.

Yeah, I picked up HuniePop based on reviews too. It's actually fun. And yes, of course I applied the "patch" (it's literally adding an empty file you can make yourself).

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 takes so long to load on Vita that I walked away to let it load, and it was longer than the Vita's sleep state; i.e. I came back, woke it from the lock screen, and the game was still mid-loading.

The game is fun, but this is not a very good port. The lengthy load times don't lend it to being a good handheld game either. And as I mentioned elsewhere, the online is dead. Not mostly dead, entirely dead. So that really kills a lot of the value in playing it much at all.

I feel bad that this version sucks because not only did I ask for it, not only did my wife get it for me for Christmas, but she also noted it was the hardest to get/most expensive gift. Which means she got really good deals on the graphic novels she bought me, so props to her on that, but makes me feel ungrateful when this version of the game is just not cutting it.

At least that loading screen doesn't wanna take you for a ride. Wanna take you for a ride. Wanna take you for a ride. Wanna take you for a ride. Wanna take you for a ride. Wanna take you for a ride.

The Last of Us Remastered

I really enjoy almost anything by Naughty Dog. They are excellent storytellers, and the games are very immersive. I'm almost sorry that they're nearly all PS3/PS4 games, because these games would be great on the PC, too. There's such attention to details that draw you in. When Nathan from Uncharted or Joel from LoU walk or run, there's a randomness to their gaits, and little hitches thrown in for realism. The NPCs react to what you're doing in the scene with realistic commentary that also fits their personality. And it's not always the same line, either. It generally is adapted to the specific location. Characters comment on new locations. And not just a Lydia-esque "Would you look at that", either. They seem to be genre-savvy, too. You may be the hero, but you're still murdering your way through the game, and Joel at least is well aware of this. He treats his own actions with disgust and distaste. Very fun, and if you have a PS4, highly recommended.

I kind of feel like The Last of Us would have made a better movie than a game. Like... the gameplay? It gets in the way of all the awesome character interactions and backstory development. Still a good game, but I'm hoping if they Uncharted movie does well, they'll consider doing a Last of Us movie next.

I liked some aspects of the gameplay; I thought the enemy AI was excellent. But a lot of duck and cover stuff, and especially the aiming, really dragged on the experience.

If they go through with the movie plans, and do it right, we could have our first great movie based on a video game. We'll have to see.

Dead Rising could be made into a pretty entertaining movie in the right hands. Edgar Wright comes to mind.
It's already had two terrible ones. Capcom has made it clear they aren't going to give it the kind of budget it needs or a competent writer so...

Dropsy

Huh. Looking at its surface, I expected a creepy-ass game starring a creepy-ass clown.

What I DIDN'T expect was a charming adventure game that is actually very warm-hearted. Especially given that you can hug just about anything and everything in sight. Or solve puzzles in order to hug more people or things. And the game makes the hug mechanic so rewarding that you can't help but collect as many hugs as possible. For example, for every new person or thing you hug, your bedroom wall gets a crayon drawing of them. And you just feel good about helping these people and getting rewarded with a hug (or, of course, a new item or access to a new area).

The ending was a little odd and anti-climactic for me and you never really learn the antagonist's motivations, but it's still a solid, 5-6 hour adventure game.

You can also search out things for Popper to pee on. It's basically the same as the hug mechanic. Not bad for something that started out as a fake play-by-post game on SomethingAwful.

Thanks to @bhamv3, I got bit by the Cities: Skylines bug again. I tried dinking around with a mod that supposedly lets you import real life city street plans, but apparently it broke with the last major update and now it just crashes the game and there's no word on if it will get fixed or not.

Anyway, @bhamv3, if you wanna see the easy way to get a city up and running, here's 3 hours of me playing a fresh start last night :p

This happens to me at least once a year with MoO2.

I used to play MoO2 religiously until I realized that the Hyper-X Capacitor / Phasing Cloak / Time Warp Facilitator combo was basically an "I win" button, and it stopped being as much fun. Still fun, of course, but not quite as much.[DOUBLEPOST=1484616656,1484616502][/DOUBLEPOST]

That panel you've got on the lower right that shows all needs together, is that a mod?

My daughter made a family with three toddlers in the Sims 4, and is freaking out about how hard it is before getting one taken away by social services. And I just laugh.
I ended up having to reset everyone's needs for her and making the adult needs never decay. And she was still flipping out, but not as much. ;)
