The countries you're thinking of don't actually have a middle class, because they're still living with the class divide of feudalism. And even then a lot of the poor still have refrigerators (if they have an electric grid), because of how useful they are for preserving food, which is even more important when you can't waste money.

MEMRI isn't the TV network, it is the Middle East Media Research Institute, and their thing is they translate (subtitle) Arab shows into various other languages.

IE, imagine if there was an Arabic nonprofit that translated shows into arabic, but 99% of its content was from daytime talk shows like Jerry Springer.
