Huh. Up here we're currently flabbergasted that Toronto's transit system was recently named best in North America.During orientation, they asked us why we chose to go to OSU. They were not prepared to hear "Because it's the only 4 year college I can get to via public transportation."
If it's not where you live, seems like you could still get some success being the first to do it in your area. And then she told me that "Broga Yoga" is already an actual thing. Maybe not around here, but it's a thing. Well dammit, here I thought I was being all clever and original.
People steal the weirdest shit. Paper is cheap. There was a guy in one of my previous labs that was fired for stealing paper towels. He took a whole box of them - probably cost 14 bucks at Costco. So strange.Somebody's stealing paper from the copier. It holds 6 reams, and between Wednesday and this morning, 2 of them went missing. There has NOT been that many copies/printouts made. We've been noticing it running out of paper a lot faster than would be thought normal over the last few months, but this is the first time it's been so blatant.
This means I'm going to have to start monitoring it and checking the security cameras.
What a fucking pain.
I feel more antipathy for the paper thief than I did for the guy who got fired for jerking off to porn in the front office.People steal the weirdest shit. Paper is cheap. Plus, think of the balls it took to do that somewhere so public!I feel more antipathy for the paper thief than I did for the guy who got fired for jerking off to porn in the front office.
Mostly because that guy, at least, didn't create more work for me.
Well, he was interrupted.Mostly because that guy, at least, didn't create more work for me.
This guy was well-liked. Everyone was left confused by it all. The professor of the lab just happened to be coming in on a Saturday when this guy was loading up his trunk. Weird. I don't remember if he had kids, but he was married. It really does boggle my mind what people are willing to throw away their livelihoods over right?? A case of paper towels vs a job that pays you enough to buy as many cases of them as you need.
I'm pretty sure whoever this is has basically walked off with a ream a week, give or take.I find it hard to believe someone would want to steal that much paper.
I think I've printed a sum total of 25 pages of anything over the last 12 months.

Paper on craigslist sells for about $2/ream, so 2-4 reams a week ends up being $200 - $400 a year. Further, this may simply be the item they're regularly stealing which has been noticed. They may have multiple sources of similar revenue - nothing so large it immediately attracts attention, but enough small things going on that once a month they can sell a few items and have a mini payday.I find it hard to believe someone would want to steal that much paper.
On this particular printer/copier, I can control what hours people are allowed to print things, and it logs all jobs. I've been over the logs, and nobody's doing massive amounts of off-hours printing/copying.It would be interesting to check the copier supplies or page count to see if they are taking them from the copier or printing a few thousand copies of items as a side business, but I suppose you'd notice the toner running out more frequently than it should be.[DOUBLEPOST=1499460727,1499460644][/DOUBLEPOST]Running around with loose sheaves of blank paper doesn't make much sense, and is harder to sell on craigslist, so making copies would make more sense to me.
6 to 12, its going to be someone who will face no repercussions for their transgressions, meaning you've completely wasted your time.On this particular printer/copier, I can control what hours people are allowed to print things, and it logs all jobs. The trap is set, now, though, so I guess I'll find out who it is and why soon enough.
Nobody of any consequence is here after I leave. And the General Manager has his dander up about it, too. So unless the station OWNER is sneaking in here at 2 am to steal paper...6 to 12, its going to be someone who will face no repercussions for their transgressions, meaning you've completely wasted your time.
@Hylian do you have a support group who are also dealing with everything you've got on your plate? Even if you don't participate your experience is not uncommon and there are many who have gone through what you are going through and it may be helpful for you to open up to such a group and be embraced by them.
I imagine you have/do but I wanted to make sure, this is not something you should feel like you have to go it alone.
Consider finding a forum. There's a group on Reddit, for instance, and they have many, many posts by people who are walking the same path you're traveling and experiencing the same challenges. You aren't alone, and not to dismiss the support you already have, you will find strength and support of a nature you can't get many other places.I have a few family members and some friends who are supportive but I don't have any special group or anything

I can use it as a MasterCard, so the only real inconvenience is if I need cash after my regular account runs dry (if it does before I find new employment.)That sounds inconvenient. Keep in mind that most banks offer a deposit from debit card without the ATM surcharge. Go to the teller with the deposit slip filled out, use the "other" line with the amount you want to deposit, and explain to the teller that you want to deposit money from the debit card into your account.
Alternately, it's probably cheaper in gas alone to simply accept the atm surcharge and use a local Atm to get the money, it's certainly worth the waste of time, but the gas cost alone should be a compelling argument in favor of just using the atm to withdraw the cash every two weeks or so (depending on your atm withdrawal limit).
But if they offer direct deposit that would seem the best option.
Every time I see a sketchy government decision I say, "I guess somebody's brother in law needed a job."I'm sure there was no sketchy lobbying involved in that decision.
