Random Video Game Crap

Jim called the upcoming sequel "Shadow of Mordollars" which is brilliant and how I'll refer to the game from now on.

I can't take pleasure in this because I'm still bummed about the game. I'm hoping the game can still be salvaged, but no way to be sure the implementation of this won't affect the actual gameplay.

I was excited about the game until this bullshit. A $60 game becomes a $100 with DLC and other crap. Microtransactions turn what should be a $60 game into a several hundred dollar game.

I miss the days when playing the game unlocked stuff like costumes, secret characters, or special weapons. Now it's all DLC stuff. The only exception is The Witcher 3. The amount of content in their DLCs was equivalent to some full games. EA and WB would sell those for full price and then sell the new armours separately.

I'd respect them more if they came right out and charged 100 dollars for the game, without any added-on bullshit. I get that development costs have risen and prices haven't, so I'm willing to pay higher prices now for games than I did five or ten years ago. But these anti-consumer practices mean I end up paying 60 dollars for a less satisfying experience, and that sucks.

At which point, I either wait until it's much cheaper, or don't play it at all.

My hope is that this stuff really can be ignored and the game will function with the bones of the first game, but right now it looks like Talion will be finding loot boxes scattered from Osgiliath to Mount Doom, so ... not happy.

Yeah, I have a firm policy of not paying anymore than $20 for a AAA game. Less than that if I can. And under $5-$10 for indie games. Arkham Knight taught me the valuable lesson of not pre-ordering or paying full price for a new game when they're often bug-ridden on launch (even the illustrious Witcher 3).

Fortunately, by the the time price drops that low, those games tend to have Game of the Year editions, which have all the DLC, too. So $20 or less instead of $100 or more? You're damn right I'll wait.

Is there anything more frustrating than a millennial who plays video games in the exact same manner you'd expect your boomer parents/grandparents to do so?

Seriously, the constant taking of hands off of mice, the panic and flailing, the lack of familiarity of common gaming strategies and tropes... it really felt like my mom had been reborn in the body of a teenager.

@Dei suggested I check if anyone has a spare code for L4D 2 before I spend $20 on it. Good timing, too. I was about to swap to the gaming box and buy it. Thanks. :)

I believe I have a spare code in my Steam inventory (not on my home machine to check, won't be until tomorrow evening). Do I have you on there?

Darn it. After years of wondering what the name of the game was that had me enthralled as a kid I finally remembered the title. Black Moon Chronicles. Bought it on Steam. Uninstalled it after 15 minutes.

The resolutions dont work and worst of all, no music, which was one of the best parts of the game.

Capcom banking on 30-40 somethings with WAY too much cash on hand: Capcom to re-release $100 'Street Fighter II' SNES cartridges
As if grabbing the SNES Classic Edition weren't challenging enough, retro gamers have another limited re-release to look out for: brand-new Street Fighter II cartridges. Capcom and iam8bit have teamed up to produce a run of 5,500 units, available in either "Opaque Ryu Headband Red" (4,500 cartridges) or "Glow-in-the-Dark Blanka Green" (1,000 cartridges). The boxes are all identical and will be sealed, so which one you might actually get is random.

Good thing I kept my SNES copy of SSF2 Turbo!

...there's also their disclaimer about how these reissue carts might cause your SNES to overheat and possibly damage it, though I can't honestly tell if they're serious or if it's hyperbole.

Didn't know Hellboy was going to be a DLC character for Injustice 2. Weird, but cool. I look forward to trying it out when the GOTY edition is a Playstation Plus reward sometime in the near future.

I agree with Jim that as far as bad moves in the gaming industry go, this isn't the worst, but it's still pretty damn tasteless and assholish.
