The presence of a license plate raises so many questions.
As does Ronnie holding the keys?

--Patrick
She probably took them from Burt Ward. I'm sure this will largely be Archie trying to regain Betty's and Veronica's attention that's diverted to Robin.
Though now I think there was one where Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy met those two, but that might've been a variant cover or something.

Because the idea of Batman66 standing in line at the DMV is hilarious.
Also the idea of him having to present an ID, proof of insurance, some kind of address, etc., should make guessing his secret identity a lot easier.

He went to a special Bat-DMV, with his Bat-ID, Bat-insurance, Bad-address.

And he would very pointedly but politely refuse any offers to cut ahead in line.

Okay, so I caught up on everything. Where do I start?

Trash. I had a lot of faith in Tom King when he started Batman just because I loved The Vision series he did. I'm not sure what's going on but his Batman is just upsetting. At least I don't have to sit through "Bat!" "Cat!" every other speech bubble. Batman is off my pull list. Why the fuck is Thomas Wayne and Skeets part of Bane's master plan?

Okay, I'm optimistic. The whole issue was just erasing everything that Slott had built up in his run and I'm happy about that. Spencer has been shaky with me lately but I feel like he's gonna be in his element with Spider-Man and his favorite villain boomerang. Ottley's art makes me feel like I'm watching Invincible characters cosplaying as Peter Parker and Mary Jane, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.

All those foreboding "BENDIS IS COMING" ads just kept filling me with dread and rightfully so. The dialogue is awful, he literally Poochie'd Lois and Jon and destroyed Kandor with very little impact on Superman or Supergirl. It was awful. Just awful.

Look at this trash dialogue.

The Immortal Hulk #1-#2 - Amazing. Absolutely amazing. The art is great, the Hulk is terrifying and the horror element of the book is perfect. Not going to spoil anything y'all really need to read this.

BEST BOY BART IS BACK. Other than that? Meh.

Oy.

Also, ditto on Immortal Hulk. I know it's only a matter of time before Marvel screws over Al Ewing yet again, but until then I'm keeping up with it. I wish this could be a long run. As it is, Ewing can't write like he's ever three issues from being cancelled.

That dialogue feels like parody. Seriously try reading it with the voices of Bob, Linda and Gene for Clark, Lois and Jon.

Hopefully since Marvel has never known what to do with the hulk they’ll just leave him alone.

Bendis even referenced that “what boy this boy me boy” in the following issue with speech bubbles as Superman flew out to kill space hitler who wanted to purify the universe of Kryptonians

Isn’t that what he’s always wanted, anyway?

He was very clear about that in Ultimates too, it just makes Galactus returning to the status quo this month even more depressing after Galactus and Molecule Man's whole talk on sisyphus. Hopefully since Marvel has shaky movie rights with the Hulk he's safe from the MCU making any changes.

Ugh, Ultimates was so good.

PatrThom interpreted the "he" as the Hulk. :p

That Ewing's Ultimates and Ultimates 2 isn't the basis for current cosmic Marvel is criminal. He transformed the multiverse. And editorial just ignored it, like those books weren't written. Ewing isn't my favorite writer at Marvel but he's certainly their most creative.

Hahaha, I should have realized. Duh.

Yeah, Ewing is great with paying attention to continuity - which we haven’t had a lot of in Marvel with Slott and Bendis.

It''s not really attention to past continuity so much as his "I'm doing something new and innovative" and editorial going "back to the corner, you!" There's no plan at Marvel and too few editors, so no one took note of what he was doing and now it's just this great story that's practically out of continuity. Maybe Kelly Thompson will have America Chavez reference it in West Coast Avengers, but even then it'd be lip service since Ultimates and WCA are on opposite ends of the conflict scale.

Marvel cosmic could be competing with DC right now, where the big Justice League story is actually breaking new ground for their universe, but instead Marvel is retreading previous Infinity stories to tie-in with a movie that came out three months ago.

Infinity’s Darkhawk has been pretty good but yeah Cosmic Marvel is in shambles since the DnA days. I’m trying to remember who is writing the new guardians, that team has been getting hit with some bad writers too.

Also, it’s really sad to see the state of Deadpool after Duggan’s run ended.

Marvel is bringing back What If?

That feels like a weird decision because this isn't the kind of comic market that can sustain a book like that.

It also feels redundant when the multiverse is visited so readily in other titles these days.

I liked seeing the many things they tried, especially in the ones where they just decided to get ridiculous, but I admit that many times it just seemed like someone’s excuse to say, “What if we killed off Xxxxx?”

Marvel dredges up What If every few years to keep up the copyright anyway. Much like every What If I'm sure these will be terrible, where everyone dies at the end so that we all know how much better the Marvel universe we're reading about already is.

Spoiler alert for every What If story. Everyone dies.

One neat issue was what if the Annihilation wave had reached Earth, just to kind of give more scope to how pathetic Civil War looked compared to Annihilus's galactic threat.

I remember the “What if the Avengers lost the Evolutionary War?” issue (which I actually quoted recently in another thread), but while the ending has the same result (EVERYONE DIES), at least there it actually made perfect sense.

Also the all-humor issues continue to be my favorites.

To this day, I will use the phrases, “I feel like I’ve eaten a whole box of bran!” and “...truly, the hunger is upon me once more” as a result of that issue.
Also it wasn’t until several years later that I realized the protoplasmic slime has sad eyes.

Kelly Thompson has another Marvel series, Jessica Jones.

It comes out by surprise TODAY in digital only. There will be no single issues, only a double-size digital issue each month.

After three months, those digitals will be collected into a TPB sold in comic shops and other places.

Then the comic goes on 3 month hiatus and comes back in January. Three months on, trade, three months off, three months on, trade, and so on.

I think this is a model with possibilities, especially since Image has made the hiatus thing work. I think the conflict will come from print vs digital and whether Marvel has the patience to see if this pans out.

Bendis must be so upset they’re touching his baby now that he’s at DC.

Bendis suggested Kelly Thompson to the editor.
And she's gonna kill it.

Well, maybe is killing it. I won't be able to buy and read #1 until tonight. But she kills it with everything else, so there's reason to suspect she'll kill it on this. Plus she had Jessica Jones show up in Hawkeye and that felt right.
