You know, over the years "shareholder" has become a dirty word for me.
I see so many companies that do whatever they can to make a high profit, all because there is now a group of shareholders that demand high returns. Maybe it's the fact I don't invest, so I can't really relate, but just the fact public companies are getting pushed to extreme lengths to grift their users to make shareholders happy just makes me feel upset. Yes yes, companies might have done some this shit anyways regardless, but every story I see talking about things like micro-transactions and DLC and tons of other bleeding practices like the aformentioned raising of antibiotic prices, always seem to bring up the same shit, "rewarding shareholders".

The move to only impressing shareholders is a relatively new viewpoint. It used to be that companies also had a duty to provide for the community and their employees.

It's an attitude where the shareholders are all, "We literally own you and therefore you will do what we say," but also because so many of these shareholders are actually institutions rather than individuals (401k/hedge/mutual fund managers, etc) and so their priority is ROI above all else. A fund manager doesn't care if your company starves itself to death or liquidates or gives all its employees AIDS, all they care about is the end result: that the fund they manage continues to turn a profit.

Yes, and the problem is since they technically own a chunk of the company, they can threaten to say, sell all their shares to a competitor that is looking to purchase the business up. "Hostile Takeover" and all that, should you not get the numbers they want. It's really shitty.

I DVR Colbert, and he had Beto O'Rourke on last night. Ted Cruz bought a lot of ad time on the show, and so did Beto. It was like late October...

I was able to keep up in Game of Thrones conversations just from reading the first book. And then I got bored of the series and couldn't.

Willie is set to headline a rally for Beto soon to promote his bid for senate here in Texas. Once his republican fans found out, you couldn't contain all the shocks and gasps and outrage and claims of betrayal. Did... did none of them know he was a liberal activist? Some of these people claim they were hardcore fans of his for 45 years, how is this news to them? Did they just assume since he is known as a country singer, that's makes him like an automatic conservative or something? Haha.

Well nobody I voted for won (though Teachout was the only one with a real chance) but the IDC (New York republicans who run as democrats) was pretty much destroyed by Democratic-Socialists so we should have an actual democratic majority in the state senate. Obviously a good thing in general but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't particularly excited for some dank kush, yo.
So apparently someone accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, and then *the next day* Chuck Grassley pulls out a letter from 65 women Kavanaugh knew in high school attesting to his good character. If that doesn't reek of the GOP knowing about these allegations in advance, I don't know what does.
Sounds like Kavanaugh had $60,000 in gambling debts forgiven.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, it's very possible that they didn't know about the context and were just asked "hey would you vouch for him since you've known him for a long time."
