[TV] The What Animation Are You Watching Thread 2!: The Sequel!

Been watching Star Wars Rebels while I play the vidja on that new fangled streaming service, and I gotta say, it's really enjoyable overall. Getting James Earl Jones to do Vader's voice is such a step up over all the Vader impersonators that have been used over the years. No one ever nails that snarky sarcastic edge that Darth Vader has.

Any time Vader shows up, it's great. Not only does he have the REAL voice, he also fights like he should (like a Juggernaut in SWTOR). He gives off a really impressive air that you can actually understand why so many people are afraid of him.

It's pretty funny that every single sci-fi show has to have an Enemy Mine episode at SOME point.

They're almost always fucking good too. Goes to show when you rip off the best stories, you can get the best stories.

Teen Titan's Go: That's What's Up

HEY KIDS-can you say "Back door pilot?" For real I legit enjoyed this, and HONESTLY Teen Titans Go humor works better with the Doom Patrol than the Teen Titans weirdly enough, ESPECIALLY since they write the Chief as an amoral mad scientist.

I'll echo what many others have said here: Klaus is fantastic. Probably the most humanistic take on Christmas and Santa Claus since Santa Claus: The Movie, this movie turns a grand scheme into the stuff of legends, without taking itself too seriously or disrespecting the origins of the material. My favorite bit is definitely when the Laplanders show up. This is probably going to get an award, assuming the Academy gets their heads out of their asses about Netflix.

If you want another Christmas movie for your rotation this year, it's on Netflix. This is a must see if you like animation or Christmas.

Man, the last season of Rebels is good stuff.

Darth Maul's final fate was excellent. Kainen leaned way too hard into I'm 2 weeks from retirement to have his incoming death be anything more than completely telegraphed but it's been a heckuva show. Really the best Star Wars content I've CONSUMED. Thrawn is better than he ever was in anything else.

Green Eggs & Ham (Netflix)

This is not what I expected, but it's better. I had assumed this was going to be relatively simple, mostly word play about wacky hijinks while trying to get characters to try new food. It's not that. There are wacky hijinks, but the characters and world are much more complex. The narration and aesthetic of the world are very Seuss-ian, and that there are bad guys and complex characters isn't unheard of in Seuss, but complex morality wasn't what came to mind mind when I thought of Green Eggs & Ham.

Here, have some fun with the theme song and get yourself in the mood for a great cartoon:
Finished watching Green Eggs & Ham and the whole first season is fantastic. It really kept my attention, and I'm looking forward to more.

EDIT: CRAP Forgot this was in the Animation thread. Gonna move the TV bits to another thread. Hold on. Moved here.

So. Harley Quinn. Overall, a pretty good series. They toned down the "swearing cause we can" factor after a few episodes, so that got better. Unfortunately, the brilliance of the first half started to peter off after a while, and the whole thing starts to lose momentum in the end, and the ending feels kinda slapdash, like they had to do SOMETHING but weren't really sure how to tie everything up, so they phoned it in. All that aside, it's got some really good stuff in there. Definitely worth watching.

Yeah all in all its a fine first season, pretty sure their setting up season 2 for the REAL crazy shit. I just wish they used Sy Borgman more, LOVED him in the comics.

Honestly, I think my favorite bits were them alluding to Grant Danasty (the guy with wagon he put a sail on) and NEVER showing him off. The fan community's been asking about Grant for awhile now and while the showrunners have commented on him (He exists in this world and might not be the same guy as the games), I think they don't want to admit that much of Trevor's current characterization is from Grant's character.

Of course, then they made fucking Saint Germain a main character and he's just a minor character from the same game as Hector and Isaac so... *shrug*

They're actually using monsters from Castlevania now at least, though, man the animation in big epic fights gets rooooooough. Like so weirdly chunky. That's the one thing I'd wish was better.

Seeing Granfalloon, Malachi, Fire Demon, Minotaur and Werewolf, etc... all show was fun. Definitely the coolest way you could show Granfalloon/Legion.

Well they did use monsters from the game in the previous seasons too. Slogra and Gaibon made a notable appearence in season 2, for instance. It was just much rarer for them to do it. Still glad to see them use more of them though.

I suspect Saint Germain's trapped in The Clocktower of Untimely Death at this point. It would be great to see them use that as a story location next season.
