Coronavirus Thread

EDIT: So as not to double-post - I have not seen updated numbers on the site I usually use (Bing's COVID tracker) for Arizona.
CDC's page says 22,383 new reported cases in AZ over the last 7 days.
For comparison, over the same period:
CA: 57,478
TX: 63,756
FL: 75,291

Oregon construction company building Amazon site told employee responsible for testing temperatures of workers arriving on site to cheat the testing so more employees could enter. The employee, who was fired three days after bringing concerns to corporate leadership, was told to take temperatures behind the ear instead of in front if the first reading came up at 100.4F or above. Employees were also told to use various tricks if their temps were too high, in order to get on site, such as holding an ice pack to their forehead, rolling their windows down, drinking cold water, or blasting the a/c. Sounds like Gray Construction Inc needs a lesson in going out of business.

That works? I've been blasting the heat to my car each day for those two weeks working from home and I got nothing.
I've never been able to fool a well made thermometer or a competent caregiver, but apparently they were using inaccurate thermometers as well, so maybe that helps.

I've been screaming at management for weeks to upgrade our black body so we can calibrate all the new IR guns out there. Standard industrial grade are accurate to +/- 1% of value +/- 1 deg C. No where near accurate enough for medicine.

Temperature readings are supposed to be readings of your core temp, which is something your body actively attempts to maintain at a constant level. In order to "fake it," you have to simultaneously overcome your body's attempts to compensate on top of whatever shenanigans you are performing.

Yeah, mostly kid me liked school and didn't try to get out of it, and these days I'm my own boss, so I'm the only one I have to convince when I'm not feeling well.

After some easings, R is now above 1 again, so further easings have been stopped and we may see a rollback to more restrictions in the coming weeks over here.
"Idiots not following rules", I swear I want to shoot them all. The rules are somewhat clear (if not coherent).

I'm just hoping they don't roll back so far that my wedding plans are shot.

"R" is way above one here. I'm even scared to look to see where "R" might even be here.
According to rt.live, AZ is currently one of only seven states that is < 1, currently listed as 0.97.
Maine is the lowest at 0.84, and Alaska and Montana are in the "lead" with 1.34 and 1.36, respectively.

My daughter's voice teacher emailed us for payment details and to tell us that she thinks singing is one of the last things that will be normal again and offered to send us all of the studies she's been following if we want to see them. She's an older lady who had a lot of health issues in the last year, so I am glad she is taking everything seriously. (My daughter has been doing her lessons over Zoom since this stuff started)

MPS has released its plan for "when it is safe to do so" for returning to some sort of in-person learning.

Basically, it's likely that there will be blended in-person/online schooling when things start back up, but not all in-person. And the blending will be Monday-Thursday / Tuesday-Friday with alternating Wednesdays... based on last name.

I'm listening to my local school board meeting tonight. We had parents talking about how the quality of their kids' education should not be impeded by any distance learning or measuring to keep people safe whatsoever. If they were in charge, school would continue as it had before the pandemic as if nothing in the world had changed.

Apparently the teachers/staff who might have their little darlings cough on us can go fuck ourselves.

I would definitely get a full face respirator and as many filters as you can get your hands on, while you still can. I mean that in complete seriousness.
