Those lasers are toys and can't hurt anyone's eyes. The DHS and PPB have had to continually admit that those lasers cannot do any damage to anyone's eyes, even with prolonged exposure. It's one of the things they frequently use to justify shooting tear gas grenades and rubber bullets at people, but every time they do, another two weeks later they have to release another mea culpa to announce that, yet again, the laser pointers are toys that can't harm people's vision and they were just making it up as an excuse to attack protesters.

No, I think at that point the defense would likely be "She was a literal Nazi, who chose to wear Nazi regalia identifying herself as such, who violently attacked members of the protest march both before and after the video in question, and was using Nazi slogans to intimidate persons of color and transgendered persons. So you see, your honor, she brought it upon herself when she refused multiple calls by those same protesters for her to go back inside her dwelling for her own safety, and instead chose to remain outside and continue to engage the protesters." So, the PNW YLF (who were the first ones to start an occupation protest in front of the JC way back on the 26th of May in response to Floyd's killing), have been calling the shots on the ground in Portland as it relates to Direct Action campaigns. They never try to dictate what type of direct action should be taken, they just announce a meeting place, and a time - and usually the community decides the target on the fly (and I can post all of this because they do this publicly over Twitter and the cops and feds know). Last night, their action led them to the East Precinct, whereupon the cops called out the feds and claimed the protesters had left a bomb in front of the building, which they then had to admit wasn't anything of the sort two hours later, but by then, hey - the DHS police were already in the streets beating people. Tonight, they've called for "round 2" at that same location - again, publicly, over Twitter. The PPB responded and said that tonight's call for a round 2 meant that there was already a riot and that they weren't going to let this happen without a response. Yes, I'm paraphrasing... a little.

I also have press confirmation, from a trusted source, that Oregon State Patrol has been showing up at protesters' homes in Portland today and hauling them off to face felony rioting charges. Also, yet another member of the press was arrested last night, and not just one, but two moms were run over by the cops last night, but they're OK and receiving medical treatment, or have already been released.

Oh, and there are a lot more neo-Nazi marches planned for Saturday, now. And a LOT of people - like, way too fucking many - defending the literal neo-Nazis who attacked protesters in two locations in Oregon yesterday.

So, apparently Trump said today that he's going to send the military to Portland to deal with the violent leftist ideology that tried to murder someone at the east precinct. This is because the mayor announced earlier in the week that protesters at the east precinct tried to burn down the building with officers trapped inside. Only, they weren't trapped inside by any stretch of the imagination - the fire exit remained clear, as did the back door. The only thing they needed to do was take down the plywood that they themselves used to seal their own doors off. And that was assuming the metal trash can wasn't able to contain the small trash fire in the first place. Oh, and people in the crowd had fire extinguishers, in case the fire got out of hand. So yeah, really not trying to murder anyone, just having a fun little trash fire in a can out front. Now, we get the military or national guard called in, according to the racist asshat in the oval office.

-Ryan Whitaker is a middle-aged White male with a bald head and full "biker" beard.
-He answered the door with a gun in his right hand because the officers weren't standing where he could see them through the peephole.
-When he saw them and they saw him, he (allegedly) knelt to lay the gun on the ground with his right hand and raised his left hand into the air.
-The officers (allegedly) took his movement as a threat and shot him three times in the back, killing him.

All this was because the upstairs neighbor called 911 twice on them for "domestic disturbance" due to the noise from them enthusiastically playing Crash Bandicoot. The second time, when asked whether things had gotten physical, he replied, "It could be physical. I could say yeah if that makes anybody hurry on up. Get anybody here faster."

Well, that's what happens when you have trigger happy cops and little recourse for the people who call the kill squads in on their neighbors, acquaintances, random people they saw on the street, gamers they don't like, and anyone else that they or the cops feel needs killin'. It's sad that it's actually easier in America to order someone's death at the hands of the cops than it is to order pizza, but that's why we're in the fuckin' streets.

Edit: Oh, and speaking of, today there's a protest within range of me physically attending, so that's where I'll be for at least part of the day. Hopefully I won't get arrested, shot, or run over by a Nazi, but the PD local to that town had one of their officers in an actual armed racist mob that chased a black man through town recently, so I'm taking my armor.

Wow, I guess I am going back to after action reports anyway - I think I just need to vomit everything I saw the night before into text so it stops slamming around in my head.

So, last night we saw a peaceful gathering wherein the only thing even remotely sent the officers' way was eggs, music, chants, and jeers. Of course, that didn't stop the cops from lying in their public announcements on Twitter and telling everyone that protesters were throwing parts of a keystone block retaining wall at them - news tip, they weren't. They also used their now infamous "officers are being hit with hard objects like eggs, apples, and lasers," yet again calling lasers hard objects (this is the second or third time they've referred to light beams as hard objects). It's not like people are throwing their laser pointers at the cops. Finally a proud boy rolled by and tossed a pipe bomb out the window, which the cops used as their signal to run out and start beating the fuck out of everyone, which they did with reckless abandon, so much so that they may have actually required LifeFlight for one of the medics they arrested. We're still trying to get information on the medic's condition, but the cops rushed him from behind, knelt on his back, pulled his head back and shot him right in the face with bear mace for 30 seconds, then slammed his head back into the ground and started punching him as hard as they could. A medic. With actual medic credentials (they're all licensed street medics). At the very least, almost killed by the cops. They were certainly trying. Video - warning, graphic.

Another interesting new tactic, the police last night declared that if you entered anyone else's property, you would be arrested for trespassing. They also told homeowners that they weren't allowed to assist protesters in any way or allow them on their property to take shelter. They spent a good thirty minutes going through and across everyone's private property looking for protesters - including searching cars in driveways. They attempted to arrest members of the press just for filming, and assaulted legal observers again.

Even later in the evening (around 2am) after the protesters had returned to the park to regroup and exfiltrate, more Proud Boys with pipe bombs showed up and lobbed them at the protesters again. Two of them went off, but the third was a dud. And of course, the instant calls of "that C4" were complete and utter bullshit. It was not plastique, it was blasting powder mixed in a bag shoved in a pipe. But regardless, Proud Boys in trucks are officially hunting protesters and throwing bombs at them. And tons of lily fucking white people (none of whom actually live in Portland, mind) are on Twitter every day defending the actions of the cops and calling for even more military forces to be sent in.

Ok, protest went really well for the most part. There are definitely some speakers who need microphone lessons - as in, don't hold the microphone in one place and then keep moving your head from side to side, we want to hear everything you have to say, not just every fifth or sixth word. We did have one assault, a young black woman was slapped by a boot-licking, Nazi-loving, shit-spewing fuckhead while the cops watched and made no attempt to arrest him. And there was a sniper trained on the organizer, but a wall of black men in plate carriers formed a shield around her and she spoke anyway. Really wish my plates had come in by now, so I could've been up there too, or given my carrier to a POC to wear, but they aren't so we were in all impact gear today, minus helmets because of the lead time, and the outer shells because there really wasn't much threat of being bull rushed by the town's eight cops, so we stayed our white asses on the ground, like we were told.

Police declared a riot within 10 minutes of protesters showing up outside the PPA building tonight, and used the resulting rush as an opportunity to make targeted arrests of the two of the leaders of this movement - Demetria Hester, the leader of Moms United 4 Black Lives (the black and indigenous led moms group that rose from the WoM's ashes) who survived the MAX Racist Attack, and one other person.

Sadly, tonight's worst action is going on in Chicago. I don't have the full names and ages, but the news I'm hearing is that CPD have shot at least three people today/tonight (one of them a few minutes ago according to several Chicago streamers), and that some of them may include children. The people of Chicago are not having it and are well and truly rioting through their streets, breaking into stores, looting everything, and moving on.

It's amazing to see the difference in response between Chicago and Portland. In Chicago, up until the shooting a few minutes ago, you would see 10 or 20 cops - riot cops yes, but just cops - responding to a store that had been clearly broken into and looted of every single item inside. In Portland, you get five or six vans full of riot cops, with riot cops hanging off the rails added to the outside (so like, 30 people per van) per person that they're arresting, and the people they're arresting held bullhorns and led the chants of "No Justice, No Peace, No Racist Police," and that's literally the only thing they did all night. But they haven't shot someone with lethal rounds yet.
