Democratic Primary: Crisis of infinite candidates

Look, not being actually better but just being less shit than the current sitting president has gotten exactly no one elected ever. Why both parties keep trying that tactic is fucking insane.

How did that happen? It always seems like the Libertarians put forward a reasonably normal candidate (Gary Johnson was at least a governor). Was it just because they assumed Amash would be their guy before he dropped out?

Maybe not the sitting president, but are we pretending "At least it's not Hillary!" didn't put Trump over the edge?

So far, Biden's campaign strategy "just stay hidden and let Trump campaign against himself" seems to be working just fine. Every time Biden is in the news, his numbers drop. The more he's just "not Trump", the more people like him.

Which is why Trump's team wants to stage several debates with Biden. Everytime Biden opens his mouth, he says something stupid and off-putting to people who aren't his base and it's on the news for days. When Trump does it, it's Trump being Trump and no one fucking cares anymore.

If Biden was smart, he'd just say no, fuck off with debates. When questioned just respond with "You can't debate with someone who always lies" and move on.

It'd make him look weak. Also, I remember when trump was the one scared to debate. Luckily for him we have the one democratic candidate who can't string two sentences together.

“I will debate the President after he apologizes to former Senator Clinton for his behavior in the debates in 2016.”

If he had thrown a modifier or two in there, he’d be fine. Something like “first openly racist man to get elected in the last 100 years” or something. But then again, that’s a clumsy way to say it. And Biden is a clumsy oaf.

Tone deaf, yeah of course. What else do you expect of a party that's having the FUCKING CLINTONS speak at the DNC now of all times.

"Hi, I'm Bill, you may remember me as the president and as the man mentioned in the unsealed Ghislaine Maxwell files as having had sex with underage sex slaves multiple times."

Black, woman, centrist, a little bit further left than Biden but not too much, Asian, etc etc.
It's the establishment choice because you don't want to alienate the left too much but are afraid of losing the center by picking someone the left actually likes.

It's more that she has a not great reputation when it comes to crime.

Harris isn't who I would have wanted but she is undeniably a safer pick. Her previous career as a (rather problematic) prosecutor means Trump will have a harder time using his whole "law and order" narrative he was pushing.

She is considered (at least surface level)a little more progressive them Biden, which means we might see more progressives lurch over to vote if they were on the fence with Biden, even if just to hope he dies in the next few years and she becomes President.

It's not perfect but it's definitely strategically sound. Far worst picks were in the air.

The Democrats are going to crowd the Republicans out of the middle. It will leave a lot of people on the left feeling unrepresented, of course. If the right continues to push right and the left continues to follow them, another party is going to pop up one day, at least for a short time.
