Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

It's Sinema doing a cutesy pose while voting "No" on the $15 minimum wage amendment that they are trying to add to the COVID Relief bill, all while carrying an expensive Lululemon yoga bag.

It get's even better because it's been reported she brought in a slice of chocolate cake to the chamber to eat after the vote, leading to comparisons to Marie Antoinette and her famous "Let them eat cake" line.

I have to #wellactually here to clear Marie's good name. She was unlikely to be the originator of the phrase. For one, there were no famines in her day.

AOC has something going for her: She isn't a "well meaning white person". After "Nice White Parents", I'm super skeptical of my own race 'doing what is best for marginalized people'.

@PatrThom establishment dems on staff all quit because the local seats were being won by democratic socialists. The democratic party is getting dragged to the left fighting tooth and nail. I laughed.

See, I'd love to see the democrats move to the left as a whole... But, frankly, it'll either result in a third party in the middle, with Trumpists winning, and the left and center fighting for second place, or it'll result in further polarization and immobility in politics, which only benefits the extremes... And again, Trump wins.
A properly functioning democracy, you guys are not.

He doesn't have Turtle to protect him anymore, and there's a WHOLE lot of prosecutors wanting a piece of his spray-tanned ass.

I saw that part, but I wasn't sure if I was missing something specific about the locale or one of the officials.

"I'm signing this into law, knowing full well it goes against federal law and precedent".
Can you imagine a left-wing Dem Governor signing a law banning all guns except for specific listed types of hunting rifles and small arms, because of their "deeply-held convictions"?

Let me redo your first sentence:

"I'm signing this into law, knowing full well it goes against federal law and precedent but will go to the Supreme Court where they've stacked it with absolute nutjobs."

Well, sure, that's why he can and does do it. That's why it mgiht actually stand, which would be horrible and bonkers.

I'm just saying, if a democratic governor (or president) tried half the shit Republican governors (and former presidents) do, both regular and social media would be exploding.

Why, it's almost as if there's a double-standard at work!

His "sincere and long-held pro-life convictions"?
Lawyers are fighting to stop the planned execution of eight death row inmates within 11 days in the same state.
Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson sanctioned the executions, starting 17 April, as he said the state needed to use up its last batch of a sedative called midazolam before it expires and becomes unavailable. (the article)

Jesus Christ. Executing people because "Our execution drugs are going to go bad" is definitely a new one for me.
Even worse, midazolam is just a sedative drug, and is pretty cheap, and not discontinued (one specific supply format is in shorter supply but was slated to come off backorder last month), so even that ostensible (loathsome) reason for its use is invalid. I've had no issues getting it for my veterinary patients.

The actual "lethal" part of the lethal injection in people (potassium chloride) is also cheap and readily available - I use it with regularity to correct electrolyte imbalances in my patients (mostly due to gastrointestinal disease).

For what it's worth (in animals) per the American Veterinary Medical Association, euthanasia using potassium chloride is prohibited unless the animal is rendered unconscious (or under general anesthesia) prior to administration, as it is not deemed humane otherwise. FYI, a dose of midazolam does not typically produce unconsciousness in a patient. There are valid reasons to use KCl for euthanasia (typically due to issues of persistent drug residue in the euthanized carcass) but the practice is infrequent.

Is that really it Piers? All those years criticizing Meghan every chance you got, all because on meeting you for the first time a woman decided she didn't want to stay in contact with you. And your ego couldn't take it.

You sad pathetic little man.
Of COURSE it boils down to him being a massive incel. That explains a lot, honestly.

I mean, he's a massive douchenozzle for multiple reasons, but for this specific instance, I mean.

Conservatives : "We are patriots. Support the Troops! We have the greatest military in the world!"

Tucker Carlson : "Pregnant women in the military has feminized it. We look less fit and weak."

Military : "Dude women in the military is what makes us stronger. You have never served, Tucker. You have no say in the matter."

Conservatives : "Our military is stupid, won like, zero wars in the last twenty years. They just trying to deflect from how terrible they are with all those women trying to do a mans job."

I swear to god the whiplash I get sometimes over this shit.

Before you get bent out of shape by that particular stain on humanity, remember that they publicly admitted to their complete lack of credibility.

FBI facing allegation that its 2018 background check of Brett Kavanaugh was ‘fake’

"Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democratic senator and former prosecutor who serves on the judiciary committee, is calling on the newly-confirmed attorney general, Merrick Garland, to help facilitate “proper oversight” by the Senate into questions about how thoroughly the FBI investigated Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing."

<SARCASM> Golly, you think there might have been something fishy about the investigation that refused to hear witnesses, and was severely limited in it's scope under presidential orders? How could that be? </SARCASM>

I'm doubtful anything will actually be done about it, but I'm glad this issue hasn't simply gone away.
