[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

The last I was there (yesterday) it still wasn't on his front page, and I didn't realize it had taken over the main comic. It was still X'ander as of last night.
It literally switched over only a bit before being mentioned here. I know because I checked the site earlier today while bored at work and it was the Xander comic, then five minutes later noticed the post here and went back to check it out and it was up.

I actually liked it, too. Maybe because it's such a large departure from his usual stuff or maybe because it's more personal so he put more mojo into this than usual.

When he's passionate about something it's usually at least somewhat good, or even straight up good. It's when it becomes a chore or a routine that he checks out. Perhaps Scott would be better suited to telling short stories, rather than keeping one long thing like PvP.

He probably should have moved on from PvP in one way or another years ago. Even David Willis mixed things up when he ended Shortpacked and introduced Dumbing of Age. Albeit with many of the same characters, but a different, more grounded universe, but still.

I'm curious to see how Kurtz's YA graphic novel turns out. It's not that he's without talent. It's that he often phones things in when he's just going through a routine or clearly gets bored of a project.

Mort reminds me of a roommate's friend who lived on our couch for a month. All his belongings fit in the trunk of his car, and that car smelled like Cheech and Chong had been chilling in it. He wasn't actively malicious. He sometimes bought KFC for everyone. And when he accidentally left the front door open and my cat ran out, he was the first one to chase after her. But he would leave his clothes in the washing machine all day and never put his fast food wrappers in the trash. And then he spilled some sort of nasty-smelling health drink on the carpet. Instead of cleaning it up, he covered the spill with a shopping bag and didn't tell us. We had a fruit fly infestation the next day. I see him all over Mort.

Yeah while I enjoy the new strips somewhat, I'd be down with him doing other projects over more PvP. Mort just comes from somewhere more real, whereas PvP is a story that goes on and on.

Just how I feel on stuff like this, you’re still charging shipping on an item that you’re expecting to sell for $5k? That just seems tacky to me.

It feels less like buying an item and more like receiving a consolation prize for giving Certified TasteMaker™ Scott Kurtz $5000.

I remember that story arc. Max Powers claimed to have a nude picture of Jade. After all the buildup and shenanigans were over it turned out to just be one of her baby pictures. Then Frank sent Teh Kurtz that print, saying "post this or else your fans will kill you."

Has Papa Kurtz passed?

I thought Mort was his way of working through his feelings while he was still alive because his dementia made him feel like had, despite him still being alive.
