I find it curious that you proclaim to be such a fan of SMBC when you have said how much you are not a fan of XKCD. That dichotomy seems counterintuitive.

So Webtoon, one of the largest webcomic hosting services, is marketing webcomics as a "fun side-hustle".
I fucking hate Webtoon. It's web design and user interface is terrible, and I only endure it for really exceptional comics. I know webcomics are struggling, but Webtoon is not doing the genre any favors, and is probably actively sucking life out of the industry.
EDIT: The whole ad campaign is pretty terrible

Yeah I legit wish the comics were as nice as how the family is in the webtoon, specifically Damian living at home with his father and brothers where as in the comics he's a legit runaway living on an island full of former assassins because DC just won't admit making a new "Batman and Robin" series would be a good idea. Also Jon should be a kid again, or at least have Post-Bendis Jon be a clone or some bullshit.

Abstruse Goose, which just stopped updating. People kept accusing it of ripping off XKCD.
Brentalfloss the comic, which at least got a song about its end
Brutally Honest, whose last comic was about how much it hurts her hands to draw
Busty Girls Comics - ended years ago but I just never got around to removing it
C-Section Comics also faded away without explanation
Critical Miss - Escapist isn't kind to its content creators, apparently
Cyanide and Happiness, which stopped updating its RSS feed at the end of 2021 (but still makes comics, I just won't bother going to the site)
Digital PIMP online, another one that stopped updating suddenly
Dragons Burn, who discovered they could just draw porn on Patreon instead, which I can respect but I would have liked more of this story
Dungeon Grind also just stopped updating without explanation
Eagle Ordinary, whose website vanished

Glove and Boots. Not a comic, but a youtube channel. Never recovered after Youtube pivoted to separating out kids content from adult, and they refused to get a patreon. The show died off and the creators have apparently gone their separate ways.

Glove & Boots also suffered badly from the overpromises made by Facebook to video content creators. They recovered a little bit, but yeah, they got screwed over several times. I don't think it helps that they kept changing things up in the hopes of finding their niche. They'd have the odd brilliant video, but a lot of their stuff just...wasn't very good. A lack of consistent quality hurt them.

Oh, Fanboys Online was such a surprising disappearance. Scott was in Bomb Shelter Comics with me back in the day. I know it he was really struggling after his brother’s murder, but then he did some College Humor strips for awhile, but just - poof. No nothing. Not even on social media.

To be fair, Mary stopped updated when she stopped teaching in Japan. She has mentioned this on her sites/blogs. She's been making Sleepless Domain for years, which I follow (and how I know about this).
