Gas Bandit's Political Thread V: The Vampire Likes Bats

An aggressive, snarky tone has obviously not landed the way you hoped. Like I tell my kids, know your audience and know when the bit is over.
Ok, so what was the bit in your opinion ?

And what does my mention of PR mean ?

Sure is. So is the ignore button so I don't see your posts anymore. Toodles.
I know you won't be seeing this, but i wasn't trying to insult you, i just found it funny how effective late stage capitalism propaganda is in framing the issue of putting profit over lives as simply a mistake by companies...

When your joke doesn't land, maybe lead with the apology instead of doubling down until the person you're targeting interacting with writes you off completely?
His 1st response was that he wouldn't discuss it further, so i assumed he already was writing me off completely.

But i do guess that since Gas went "commie" i have no one to argue with, and i'm being a bit too snarky with the rest of you without explaining it in full, expecting to just get to the point later... which isn't a great idea when i'm not trying to argue with you.

"Hey, seems I came across more abrasive than I meant to, I'm sorry."

That last part is the most important bit. You'll find you land on a lot fewer ignore lists.

"I'm going to respond to what you said even though I know you meant something else."
Yes, because i saw the contradiction between those 2 things as relevant.

I wasn't assuming a mistake on his part, but a way of thinking that was intentionally moulded that way by PR.

Probably should have made that more clear from the start, but hindsight is 20/20. To me it seemed kind of clear that he wasn't defending them from his previous posts, so i didn't think he'd ever assume i was saying he was...

Now obviously my next post was more dismissive and snarky, but i assumed he wasn't going to read it, after he said he was done, so why write a lot, but i do see how that's a bad habit i picked up on reddit, since you usually never hear again from people that say that over there.

Ha ha. Hilarious. But maybe working on your own PR.
Where in what i posted did i imply that PR is a good thing ?

PR is manipulating public opinion in your favour, usually by any means necessary.

I'm not really a fan.

Problem is, it's not like i'll stop being sarcastic most of the time.

Maybe it's better if they just ignore me if they find me too abrasive, less hurt feelings that way.

Otherwise it most likely end up with me apologising, then later saying something they feel is insulting them, me apologising again etc. and at some point it will just begin to feel performative.

This way i can just make snide comments to ppl that don't mind, or, even better, engage with the argument without caring about how i come off...

I mean, there's a reason why i used to mostly lurk until JCM stop posting as much, and i started arguing with Gas more often...

Hey man, if saying sorry is literally impossible for you, that's fine. But people take snark better when they see examples of you showing you don't actually mean to hurt them.

Funny enough, my ignore list on here isn't terribly long. It takes a lot to push me to that point. The only others on my lists are Charlie and Jay. ElJuski would have gone on it if the option was available back in the day. but I don't believe it was.

Either way, I'm sure they're happy being part of an elite list with Charlie.

The thing is, can you really say snark isn't meant to hurt at least a bit ?

I am kind of poking them, and hoping they won't mind much, or even like it in the context of an argument.

So i kind of feel like i'd be saying "I'm sorry you got upset at what i see as playful poking!" which is not really an apology.

...

Maybe it will feel more real if i say:

I'm sorry, it was not my intention to actually insult you in a way that made you mad, but one that made you more competitive/argumentative, but obviously that's not going to work on most people, so i should try to at least not react with more snark when the first one got misinterpreted and i could have just tried to explain it directly first!

That feels more honest, though i'm still not 100% convinced it's a true apology.

Any doctor or medical professional engaged in that kind of scheme deserves to lose their license, and be tried for manslaughter/malpractice/malfeasance/etc.

(Not to mention these kind of things tend to be counterproductive in the long run... Prevention or early detection is waaaay cheaper than longer and heavier procedures later.)

Police have said they think they caught the guy. You know the guy, the one who meticulously planned all of this, put a backpack full of monopoly money in the park to find, and has left no trace? That guy? Yeah. Apparently a McDonald's worker called in that a guy fitting the description was at their store. He stayed there until police got there and the guy had on him a copy of his manifesto and a "ghost gun" that fit the description of the shooting.

Nothing to see here. Completely legit. Trust us.

Why are you skeptical? I don't see a reason to believe or doubt currently.

I find it hard to believe that a guy who planned this out as well as he did didn't ditch the weapon and was carrying a manifesto.
Well, I think that "planned well" might be giving him more credit than is due, simply because the NYPD might just not be such a crack team of investigators sweeping the city for a genius assassin. Until we learn more, I can't accept "he was brilliant before and now he's an idiot?" As good enough evidence of anything, because before he might just have been slightly ahead of the NYPD and nothing more.

Even if he wasn't a brilliant planner, it's... weird that he'd go to a McDonald's carrying the gun and a MANIFESTO that he hasn't even published.

Depends on his mindset. Also would be hard to ditch the “ghost gun” as its entire point is that it’s never been fired before and there is no record of its barrel signature. If he’s still on the run he just may have never found a good place to rid himself of it where it couldn’t possibly be recovered.
But now we should be asking if him being caught is part of his Villanous plot the whole time.

Honestly, part of me was hoping that he would make a clean getaway. The swiftness of the stranger would be talked about for years to come. New Yorkers gathered in their saloons would ask each other "who was that masked man?"
