The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

I’ve never heard of that but upon googling that looks pretty special. I’d love to go to one of those types of places at least once. Hope it lives up to the hype.
I've actually been to multiple 3-star restaurants with my dad (because that's the sort of thing he likes to spend his money on), but going to the Fat Duck is definitely one of my bucket list items. Heston is the kind of chef that really inspires me with the weird shit he does.

As a 59 year old dude with kids out of school for 10+ years I really don't follow high school sports. But my Facebook started blowing up today because the high school I went to won their first ever state title. Many of the players are from my home town of Minden which you remember was devastated by tornadoes this summer. The kids used that experience and bonding to get it done. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I'm proud of my community even if a football championship really doesn't mean anything.

By the way, to see the support they have, in the 2020 census, Minden had 600 residents. The game was 3 hours away during a Thursday when people are working.

Yesterday my dads sodium level was just below normal. He was able to get out of bed and sit in a chair.

He has been dizzy for over a year and the VA couldn't figure out why despite his low sodium blood work. Yesterday was the first day he wasn't dizzy.

His O2 is still 95%. Up from 85 when was admitted. He might need oxygen indefinitely.

It appears he is on his way to being able to go home in a few days. Hopefully he can keep treated for this issue when they get home.

Anyway, great news. A nice thing to be thankful for.

And to think all it took was blowing away one CEO in broad daylight and the entire internet celebrating.

Hmm. Link won't expand. They are pulling back on their promise to limit payment on anesthesia based on surgery times.

You know, I'm not usually one to makes jokes about the dead. But when they're a heartless CEO, I'll make an exception.

What do you call a dead, heartless CEO?

A good start.

Sorry Cog, but the southerner came out to me in your post. I am happy you have an actual desk again, I hate that it’s taken so long to get that for you. In the backwaters of the southern US, drawers is a slang term for underwear and that’s exactly where my 12-year-old kids brain went for me. It’s just that kind of day.

It's the 1st of 4 canvas drop cloths that I am making for the Scouts to grommet and waterproof this month.

I haven't had the chance to play much of the Steam games either @Ravenpoe or @GasBandit bought me, but when I was playing the Ninja Turtles collection awhile back, it awarded me with a foil trading card. I went to sell it and checked what its average price was. The lowest it sold for was like $24. I thought that was insane, but for a laugh, I threw it on the marketplace for a little less than that. I thought no one would be stupid enough to pay $20+ for a useless foil card.

Well, it just sold this morning and there's $21.75 pending on my Steam account.

Shame it didn't sell during the holiday sale, but still. I think I'll hold onto until the next sale.

Today I received a letter from the Department of Education.
Two days ago the Biden administration deemed that my online college Ashford University was guilty of widespread misinformation based on the quality of their education and the amount of loans that students would need to take out. As a result ALL debt from students of the university has been wiped out.
I have been so scared that this $50k debt would be pushing down on me my entire life. And in an instance, it's all gone.
After everything I've been going through this last year I really needed this win.

I hope it sticks, really, man. A number of times the Biden administration tried educational debt elimination, a court stepped in at a millionaire's behest and said "you can't do that."

Feels amazing, doesn't it? I had mine wiped, including a previous loan from my bachelor's from DeVry, because of the Corinthian Colleges scandal.
Just rechecked mine, and it still shows all zeros. Like Gas said, I really hope yours sticks too.

I feel so bad in this debate. I was my parents's last kid. So they had spare cash. The took on half my college debt. I paid of the other half in 3 years. I cannot see how kids these days can pay this shit off. I am pissed at the Bush Admin, for fucking our kids over with his college loan laws.

I lived with my sister and brother in law during undergrad and worked near full-time. So, my loans weren't outrageous. Grad school was paid for by my RA/TA work. I feel extremely fortunate that I am not buried by loan debt. The pandemic actually helped b/c my kids were out of daycare. All that went to pay off the last of them.

Mine are paid off; partly by me and partly by my parents. I fully recognize I was fortunate in this case. If Dad hadn't helped pay off my student loans, I'd probably still be paying them off today. I was on deferred payments for several years, as well, which helped reduce or entirely pause the interest. That was also at Dad's behest. It pays to have a former banker for a father.

I wouldn't wish ANYONE the stress of paying off their student loans. I'm glad Biden was able to push through as much loan forgiveness as he could, but it definitely should've gone further.
