L4D 2 - Nov 17

Yeah, i saw a guy (or gal, not sure) do it when i drowned, i just never got the chance to do it right.

Maybe this weekend.

If you're just going for the achievement, Gnome Chompski is actually doable on single player, with three bots. It helps if you set the difficulty to Easy, of course.

Alright, went into Single Player and got the Gnome achievement done. Actually had a few scares doing it... dropped the gnome when I tried to close the safe room door (it saved him inside the room thankfully) and I got stuck trying to jump into the Helicopter. It eventually dumped me in the chopper, but I was worried I'd have to do the whole thing all over again.

Too bad, would have been fun to do it together...

BTW, if anyone want to i'm gonna be playing for an hour or so now...

Make that 2+, it's not as late as i thought.

Gonna try and get a Versus match going now on Saturday evening. Come join in!
Ugh! No more opening games to the public. We ended up with spammers and raqequitters. It didn't help that pings were ridiculously high for one team (mps.Wrath and Evil Fairy). Shawnacy and I were the only ones to stick out the full game.

Sorry I couldn't show. Had a bit of family drama today, culminating in my father and I expressing our undying hatred for one another. Lucky it didn't end in a fist fight.

I'm going to trade in a couple of my old ps3 games i dont play anymore.
Is it worth getting or should I wait for Left for Dead 3? I'm slightly stuck
in limbo mode for PC games at the moment and I don't care for MMO's.

Wait until "The Passing" comes out, because the game is almost certain to go on sale when that expansion is release. Valve tends to do sales around updates to L4D and TF2, and some retailers do as well.

Okay just checking. I always wanted to get the game having played it briefly on the 360 last fall at a friends place.
Just need a mindless shoot 'em up game.

Left 4 Dead is not a mindless shoot 'em up though. If you go back in the thread a ways, you'll see people bitching about playing with trigger-happy Halo types.

Also, any sale of it would be through Steam if you're waiting on The Passing, and you won't be able to trade it in later if you buy it that way.

Will The Passing be offered as a free DLC though or not?
For the 360 it will probably cost, as Crash Course did. On the PC... I'm hoping it will be free. No pricing has been announced yet and, as escushion said, there is varied speculation on the matter.

You won't be able to trade in any PC version of the game, even if you buy it at retail. Once a copy gets registered to a Steam account, it's locked in.

Gotcha. I mean I think Steam is okay just surpised at how much bullcrap there is with PC gaming nowadays.
I should be picking up Left for Dead 2 sometime this week.

Well I got the first Left 4 Dead. It was cheap and will see how this one plays before I get the second one.
I already resserved Bad Company 2 and Modnation Racers for the PS3 so I'm slightly tight on games now.

Does anyone still play this online or is this not as popular now that you guys are all playing L4D2. I never
got into this type of genre until now so I'm a bit slow on this type of genre.

I often see someone from the Hal 4 Um group playing L4D1... i have no idea who it is though (Goes by Shotgun Justice right now).

I don't play often, but I'll certainly play if invited. Any time you want someone to game with, send one out. I'll be glad to share what I know of strategy, or just keep my mouth shut and let you learn it on your own, whichever works best for you. I don't see your Steam name listed in the stickied thread so, if you want people to be able to see when you're playing and join you, make sure to post it.

L4D1 is simpler than L4D2, with fewer weapon and item choices, so if you're not used to FPS it might actually be better to start with than L4D2. Still, the type of play style that's needed to do well in these games is fairly different from most other first person shooters. I can't say that I know of any other games that are in the same sub-genre as L4D, though. The 4-man team gameplay is very different than one-man army style games, or even larger teams like TF2.

We should have a L4D1 Halforums Versus match sometime in the future, though we might want to give BlackCat a little time to prepare. Versus is fast and brutal, it's not the time to be learning the game.

I'm on Steam but I hadn't been on it in awhile due to getting bored with TF2.
If anyone wants to add me its: cldwnter or CldWnter. Try either one.

I'm used to shooters. I started out on them with the original Half Life and Battleifeld 1942.
Ahh the good old days of PC gaming.

I'm unfamiliar though with playing zombies games when I meant genre wise on this.

Rule Number 1: Don't worry too much about head shots. They will generally drop anything except a Tank in one hit (Tanks don't take headshot damage) but you get so much ammo it's hardly an issue. Just unload on them.

Rule Number 2: Auto-Shottys are the best Tier 2 weapon. Period. They have no damage drop off and infinite penetration (against Zombies) like the Rifle. Get used to using these.

Rule Number 3: If you get Boomed (covered in Bile), hide in a corner and protect your backside. Do this if your in a crescendo too. It's basically unbeatable in L4D1, except against Tanks.

Rule Number 4: If you see a Tank, try to light him up with a Molotov. Then try to find an open area to run around in to avoid the Tank. There is only like 1 Map where a Tank can extinguish itself, so it's a death sentence for them as long as you can run around.

This can be risky in L4D1 Co-op, since fire makes the tank run faster than a survivor. You've got to have obstacles to slow down the tank in order to out-run him.

In Versus or L4D2, fire makes a tank run slightly slower.

Gonna fire up L4D2, see if we can get a Versus game going. Invites are going to start going out a little after 9pm Eastern.

It's actually not risky at all, because the Tank's AI will usually make it chase after one survivor until they are down and then pound on them until they are dead. Even if this wasn't the case, there isn't a single map where you can't ether drop them before they get to you or split up and waste them before they kill anyone. Generally speaking, the worst that's going to happen against an AI Tank is that one person will be knocked down. Two tops.

If you're going to shoot the tank, why set him on fire? In L4D1 Co-op setting a tank on fire starts a timer and the tank dies after a set time. The fire doesn't do any direct damage (unlike L4D1 versus or the L4D2 tank). Why make the tank faster if you can take him down faster with guns than with fire?

Anyway, I learned an interesting lesson playing L4D2 yesterday. Explosive ammo does not stumble a witch when she is on fire.

There were supposed to have fixed that bug already.
