A RISK thread. Risky buisness perhaps?

Is there a way someone can get an image of the current board up on this forum? 'cause I think things are going to go down soon, and I don't have any image editing software right now.

The map as of right now:

The principality of the Bronx is fearful of invasion. To mitigate possible slaughter, a raid was staged on New Jersey, in order to deprive the state of valuable material. However, some fear that this very raid might provide Causius Beli for the people of New Jersey to invade ...

I'm terrible for this game. I hate conflict, even in it's simulated form. And I'm very wary of what happens around me.

At first, I was afraid of Phil because it appeared that we were both attempting to sweep the Bronx.
Then, I was afraid of Soliloquy, because all of New Jersey became Yellow in like one turn.
And now, the more I think about it, I'm afraid of Boring Metaphor, precisely because I wasn't afraid of him before. There's this nagging feeling that he's simply a more subtle enemy, and the only reason I have not feared him yet is because we have not yet clashed to date.

Yes. My disposition does not lend itself well to Risk.

How about a truce, Rob? I leave you alone to focus on the threats from Phil and BoringMetaphor, keeping the Bronx intact, and you let me take New Jersey, so I can focus on my problems down south.

No need to fear me, Im not used to playing this style of risk, I can feel myself imploding soon.

If it would please the masses, I would suggest playing some rounds on Warlight and comparing the two.

Problems down south eh, soliloquy? You know, they make a cream for that.

That's right, you got a hemorrhoids problem, and it's name is Phil!

....wait that came out wrong.

Ok, what I'm trying to say is that I came after you through your back door and really caused a wreck in your southern parts.

...FUCK

OK, what I mean to say is there was a hole in your southern region that I penetrated and you may want to get it checked out ASAP or something.

I feel like it's only fair that I admit to you before you take your turn that circumstances have changed slightly, and I won't be pursuing this truce. The people in the Kingdom of the Bronx now call for blood.

A bold decision, and a foolish one. Allies are rare in these parts, and you have no shortage of enemies. I'll give you your next turn to reconsider.

This just in:

The nation of the Bronx, led by Rob King, has thrown our generous offer of peace back in our face by once again invading our fair New Jersey soil at the region of Englewood Cliffs.

Outnumbered almost three to one, our boys fought heroically, holding the line and destroying Rob King's forces.

With the Bronxian army in shambles, let's show him why peace with the New Jersey Nation is always a good idea.

Yeah. My boss gave me a strange look when I made those attacks. She was standing six feet away when I yelled "What the hell is this Voodo shit?!"

Sorry guys, the email was buried in my inbox, and I forgot about this thread :/

It's cool, I think juski will be down for the next game so i'll for sure send you another invite when we get that going.

Maybe we could get a 2nd game going if enough people are interested.

BoringMetaphor

It is a dangerous time for a Canadian gangster in New York. Though my territory is expanding, other, meaner, crueler, gang leaders are rising to oppose me. I have now secured TWO airports, so i can safely funnel in my drugs from Toronto. It seems the others are afraid of me, they stay out of my hoods.

I have almost secured this east borough (red tinted). Do I move north against Rob/orange? Do I move west to keep Phil on his toes? Do I consolidate?

Time will tell....

I was really hoping to let sleeping dogs lie, Metaphor. But be assured that I am prepared

*Shakes a Newfie fist defiantly*

BoringMetaphor

Drug ops are going well. I have gained control of an entire eastern section of the city. My Timmy Hos are prowling the streets while I fly in snow from Canada. As a gang lord I am given the utmost respect on the streets. I am thinking of letting my gang go casual on fridays. This may seriously affect morale.

Here we are again:

The black arrows represent the offensives from last round (I think) You can see that Soliloqy is having a rough time of it, being attacked by both Phil AND Rob. O woe! Double teamed!

I myself have secured a borough which gives me a +5 bonus for income. The green arrow indicates where my next potential offensive might be. But do consider that my opponents read this blog, and I might just by lying to confuse them.

Circled in red is probably where some fighting it about to go down. Rob also might choose to attack me, despite our shared canadian heritage. Remember, he is from Newfoundland, and that means stranger, danger.

Once again, the black arrows indicate offensives. Phil has clearly knocked Soliloquy out of the races. Meanwhile, Sol and Rob are duking it out in a brutal gang war which will hurt both of them. They admit they have no chance at winning, but would rather take the other down with them.

As it stands I am consolidating my borders. In white you can see the defensive choke points I will have to secure. I am more worried about Phil coming through at the larger ones on the river, and besides Rob doesn't seem like a threat.

In red, you can see the airports. They are transferable between them, so I really have to worry about Phil jacking me through there and getting in the back end. Luckily, he has to worry about the same thing, and since I control two, he'd have to have a powerful force to come through and defend his own territory from my forces. I expect Phil to continue taking out Sol.

That last round is a testament to how one maniac can mess shit up. I feel like I'd have had a chance at continuing in the game a little longer as long as Soliloquy continued attacking rationally. But as soon as he gave up on his continued existence and set on me like a rabid dog ... it's all over. I went from 15 reserves/turn to 3.

For the record, I was trying to deprive him of resources and gently push my borders outward, taking advantage of the fact that he's fighting at both ends. Then he gave up on Phil and blitzed me. I'm still hoping to get my feet under me yet, but it isn't looking likely.

That said, I get it. It's not what I'd have done, but it was quite a feat. And that's what makes an Risk awesome boardgame. It's one of the more open-ended ones out there.

Super busy, here's the latest situation. No comment, pretty self evident.. Wil Rob/Phil be able to take me out!?

I have 11 at that airport, defending myself. Not sure if it will be enough.

The glorious kingdom of the Bronx is no more. To the gallows goes your king. To the grave goes his dream.

Remember him.

**h-gurk**

Your sacrifice has served the greater good. I shall liberate the people of New York from the boring menace! My gurilla warriors have broken his defenses down and disrupted his supply routes.

VICTORY IS WITHIN OUR GRASP!

The people of New York WILL know the peace of Phil!

alt boast: Looks like New York really is going green :smug:

B

BoringMetaphor

I know right? Victory can't be mine if we can't get by turn 1

Yo, defensive dice. Cut that shit out, until Mr. The hun's turn again 'cause that would make me LOL. Also, when people attack me keep up the good work.

what I'm trying to say is that you're doing your job TOO well.

I'm glad we had this little talk.
