Prom canceled due to "teh GAY"!

Don't worry Heteros have had more school sponsored dances shut down than gays have. It mostly revolves around Freak Dancing. There are a ton of schools that no longer have Proms or Homecoming Dances because all the recent dance steps involve cock and ass contact.

Oh definitely, I am not criticizing Shego at all. It is just shitty that this is even an issue.

edit-
my sister didnt even try and take a girl to the prom she just went with a guy. What was important to us was that she enjoyed her prom not that she made some kind of political statement.
I know you aren't criticizing Sheg. I was making an addendum to my post saying she should speak up. We both agree, in a more perfect world...

I think it's funny that in my graduating class, in highly conservative Alberta, in my Catholic high school, the two openly gay girls each brought their dates to our Prom/Grad and no one gave a shit. The three openly gay guys too. Sure, our principle didn't like it, but I guess he figured it wasn't the time to raise a shit stink about it.

That's just absurd. Facepalm at an elite level.

Yeah Shego is right if she would have been quiet about it and just shown up she probably would have been ok but really, should she have to be? She shouldn't have to sneak around. I don't know about proms elsewhere but squeeing for weeks before hand about your plans was the fun part for me.

SHE'LL TAKE THE CASE!

A high school lesbian wants to bring her girlfriend to prom. The school says no. The ACLU says they gotta. The school says no they don't and cancels prom.

All I can think of? The lesbian chick is hot! Who wouldn't want to see her dancing close with her girlfriend?!? (By the way, she's 18 so I'm not pulling an Icarus.)

Just for a pic rebuttal... http://www.cnn.com/2010/LIVING/03/11/mississippi.prom.suit/index.html?hpt=T2

Segregated proms? My god... and I thought that the original story was disgusting.

Also, when I started reading the comments in the article yesterday, I couldn't believe it. It's the girls fault?? People are horrible.

Dude, the last century we would have had the same story, but with black people. It was not as long ago as it feels.
That still happens. Some high schools still have segregated proms.[/QUOTE]

Well yeah, white kids can't be exposed to that 'black music'. Next thing you know they'll be hippin and a hoppin'; bippin and a boppin instead of getting crew cuts and enlisting for WWII!

I went to sign up for WWII... but they said i was too frail and sickly... lucky for me this General dude was impressed with my patriotism and told me that maybe he could help... i'm seeing him later, wish me luck.

Well along the lines of Gasbandit...

I'm not agreeing at all with what the school did, but why did the girl announce that she was going to prom with her partner in the first place. I don't recall telling the school board who I was going on a date with to prom... Why not just show up like that? If they kick you out, you've got a nice lawsuit on your hands.

It's been already brought up that if you bring someone not from the school to prom nowadays, you have to register them or something when you buy their ticket.

One of the news articles said that they had prevented same-sex couples from attending proms in the past, and she wanted to clarify the policy beforehand. Can't say that I blame her. I'd rather fight that fight in advance rather then get turned away at the door. Whether she'd have a lawsuit or not when turned away, once that happens, you've missed your senior prom and there's no way to ever get it back.

Maybe she wanted to know she would actually be able to attend it, instead of getting kicked to the curb the second she stepped in.

Times must have changed, cause back in my day (class of 2000), we just showed up with whoever. But yeah, this story is all sorts of fucked in the head.

I don't get what goes through the minds of these school boards but I imagine it goes something like this: "OMG! THOSE QUEERS R GONNA GIVE OUR KIDS DA AIDS"

I think I can solve the mystery of the "picture" disparity between the CNN picture and the other pictures which look a little more posed...

The magic of makeup can have a lot to do with it. As can the difference between a candid shot and a posed shot. As an example, I give you: Reese Witherspoon.

Disconnected

That's pretty much what goes through their heads Chazwozel. I've met some of them, I bet most of us have met these types. The amount of stupid they vomit out as speech is unmatched.

From Tin's article link:
".... She said she also was told she could not wear a tuxedo, as she had planned."
Can't wear a tux? What year is it in this town? I doubt she was gonna show up with her dads suit on, at least I would hope not. There are some very nice tuxedo's designed with the female form in mind.

I agree with Tin and Dave, she is a lovely looking young woman.

I think it's kinda goofy that the kids in her school are blaming her for canceling prom and not the school. Is she supposed to apologize for being gay now?

heck when I graduated, some girls did wear Tux cause it was "cool thing" to do ;)

But yea, at my school, we had to register our date in order to buy tickets.

Kids are stupid, mean, selfish and ignorant. They are humanity at its purest form. So, of course they blame the microscopic catalyst and not the ton of reactant.

I know when I went to prom (2008) both a person and their date had to sign a little contract attached to the ticket order form, have their parents sign it, and specify who you wanted at your table. Any date 21 or older had to be personally approved by the principal and at my cousins' high school (same city), Freshmen had to be approved as well. So depending on the school's rules, she may have had to tell administrators.

That said...what. the. fuck. At the school dances at my school, single girls would often dance (yup, freak dancing and all) together to look hot or attract dudes or just to get on the damned floor. Since at my prom (yup - the best kind of evidence, anecdotal!) no one really was kissing heavily or making out...what the hell is the difference between that and lesbians?

At this point, I feel blessed that I was too socially awkward to want to go to the prom, or even care about it.

And I wouldn't be surprised if it was the school's intention to have this girl blamed by her classmates for the prom's cancellation. At the very least, they could've predicted it would happen.

It doesn't take a genius to figure that out (they are bible belt country anyway). I wouldn't be surprise at all if the school is pretty much trying to do that. "Stamp out teh ghey!" but of course since the girl had asked ACLU to begin with, ACLU have record and now suing the school. The court will have the evidence presented (if they don't reinstate prom) so we'll see.

Anyone to blame but themselves. You can see that through any government institution though, in any situation.

Didn't go to my prom; it sounded like a waste of money and my GF at the time was across the country. But I know it's a more important thing for some people. We didn't have to register guests at my school either--just buy your tickets.
