I am so inexplicably happy today I don't know what to do with myself.
I don't know if today was GREAT but I got things done. I bought a 500GB external HD, a cooling pad for my laptop, got a new SIM card that lets me call all over China for the same price, making calls to my girlfriend in Shanghai that much cheaper. I also just had some kickass bread and fried squid and the gift I had sent from home for Zhen Zhen arrived. Yay.
Yesterday was shitty involving work for reasons I won't get into, and necessitated buying a couple hundred dollars of new work clothes, money I hated to spend.
However, the people in Macy's were incredibly good to us. I don't mean nice, and I certainly don't mean that fake smile, "I hate this job" hollow pretend cheer. I mean genuinely helpful and charitable to us when they didn't have to be, even one who was walking out the door, a woman I didn't even know was an employee because it was the end of her day and she still helped us with a theft protection bead that hadn't been removed. Honestly, it helped me get over the pissy feeling I'd been having, and made me want to brighten someone else, and I took DreamGoddess out to dinner after.

I ended up going the necklace route.
I'm also thinking of treating her to a nice dinner at a 5-star hotel in Shanghai. Those hotels sure put on some great holiday dinners, and the atmosphere is just wonderful.

I've been trying to find a new job since before I moved to this one. I took this one because the way the academic game is played, if you leave, you're kind of out for good. I just not only got a callback (to put it in perspective, there were a total of 3 jobs in desirable locations in my specialty this year), but got a callback at one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country.

They taste slightly more like Christmas cheer than the others. The regulars taste like normal cheer. And I can get that mess year round. Time for the primo shit.
