A Thread For Bold Claims

A bold claim is, most simply, a claim you make that you put in bold.

For this thread, it should be something about popular (or not popular) media. Movies, books, music, comics, TV, uhh... if I'm leaving out your favorite form of story-telling I apologize. It should be something a little outlandish, hopefully provocative, and never obvious to start debate. Calling Godfather the greatest movie of all time? That could be true, but it is lame. And it definitely is not a bold claim.

I'll start with one I realized tonight when I finally purchased a movie I've been meaning to own for a while.

The only three Batman movies I have any urge to rewatch are Batman! The Movie, Batman Forever, and The Dark Knight.

I don't mean to post this thread and run, but I'll be back in the morning with maybe new bold claims, or replies or more discussion. This is somewhat of an open season thread for arguing about movies/tv/comics/whatever, since I enjoy doing that a lot.

The Matrix Series actually made a lot of sense, and was really awesome.

I have to ask...why Batman Forever?

Stanley Kubrick was a talentless hack.

I went there.
Go on.

Terminator 2 is far superior to The Terminator.
I can see saying T2 is better, but FAR? Come on. The Terminator is a really great movie.[/QUOTE]

You're right, The Terminator is a great movie. However, it was also Cameron's first real feature film and I think it suffers a bit with characterization in the beginning and pacing in the middle. The soundtrack is also terribad, but that's more of an 80s movie thing than an inexperienced director thing. I believe that when Cameron made T2 he really benefited from having a few more movies under his belt. On the whole it just feels like a much tighter movie to me.

However, The Terminator did have one thing going for it that T2 doesn't: Lance Henriksen.

Hey, we agree on something. Especially on paper. If you read, say, the wikipedia entries for the 2nd and 3rd films, they make a lot of sense and fit in well with the first movie. The execution was just not so great.

Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones give perfect performances for the type of movie Batman Forever is. It's the spiritual sequel to Batman The Movie. Nicole Kidman is still my favorite Batman/Wayne love interest out of every movie. The movie is just hilarious.

Also: Kiss from a Rose is one of my favorite songs of all time.

3D is the future of cinema.

(to clarify, I don't believe this for one second. I wish this fad would hurry up and die. Its annoying.)

3D would have made Star Wars Episode IV:The Legend of Curly's Gold even better. Just imagine the awesomeness of Gredo firing first, and missing Han Solo at two feet away, if it were shown in Real3D...
