Too risque for Sesame Street?

I honestly thought this whole thing was stupid. Unless you're Amish or Alaskan, your kid has seen cleavage. And will again. The kids themselves probably wouldn't even notice.

Seems like a lot of parents don't realize that children don't see things the way adults do.

Because a lot of parents are morons.
Before you label many parents idiots, keep in mind the paternal/maternal instinct tends to hold priority over rationality. It's not an excuse for foolish behavior, but it is a cause of it.

I don't see how people having differing moral standards is "foolish behavior" or "moronic". While again, I don't have any real issues with this (other than it's Kate Perry, thats a pretty damn big issue) I totally understand a parent not being comfortable with her or her tits being on the show. I may not agree, but I get it. Everyone has differing comfort levels as a parent when it comes to their kids and I don't see any problems with Sesame Street playing it safe.

It's moronic to think that a kid is going to see it and think of it as an adult does. They can have their own reasons for disapproving, but that one is stupid.

Thats fair, I didn't read anything stating that was the reason but I agree, thats not a terribly wise one.

Any one appearing on Sesame Street falls into the role model category. I wouldn't want my kids identifying with a woman with her tits out and a dress that barely falls below her ass. It is just a simple modesty standard.

I have no trouble with my little sister watching stuff about Tinkerbell (and neither do my parents), but I guess that this is personal criteria.

I meant my sisteeeeeer! (she is 7 years old!)

I have to admit, though, that Tinkerbell IS kinda hot. In a tiny semi-insectoid kind of way.

Oh, now I see it. Man, my brain is so broken. My master's thesis is due in two days and I still have looooots of pages to do. I've been working pretty hard... If it weren't for tinkerbell's curves, I think I would have gone mad already.

It may be worth pointing out that appropriateness has a great deal to do with the situation.

Pocohontas and Tinkerbell are dressed as such because that is appropriate daily wear for their culture.

Dressing in a bathing suit that shows more than the Elmo clip is appropriate at a swimming pool, but would be inappropriate at the office.

I think one of the reasons people are a bit divided about this clip is that there's no information about the environment. She starts out in an alley or on the street, and the clips flick around to other locales, although I don't know that she fits in any of them. Her outfit would obviously be fine in a G rated movie as a wedding dress - at a wedding.

Keep in mind also that tinkerbell's outfit covers far more of her breast than Katy's did.

MY post was about role modeling. I don't think it is a good idea to plant the seeds of dressing skimpily on a children's educational show. Let some one else be a negative influence on children.

There are not that many people that sees Tinkerbell as a model to emulate, where a kid could think Katy is worth emulating.

What he heck does Tinkerbell have to do with Sesame Street?

Also a kid seeing a cartoon rape will be less traumatized than seeing the real thing. It is in no way OK, but less harmful.

She's asking Elmo to play dress up.

My wife has Katy Perry and Disney both beat, she walks around the house top-less and exposes our daughter to bewbage on a daily basis.

Actually, Disney invented that look for fairies. Historically, they were depicted with long flowing outfits. Here's a Victorian painting of a fairy riding butterflies, for comparison.
I think that if you account for skimpy-clothing inflation, you'll find that those images were equally risque for their time as Tinkerbell is for our time. Shoot, you can see her ankles! What were these artists teaching kids in those days?!

I suspect you are right on the size issue. The outfit Katy is wearing very much accentuates her size. Tinkerbell's outfit accentuates, if anything, her hips.

And in other Cottingley Fairy photos they are wearing much less. Look up art for "Green Fairy" and there will be nudes from the Victorian Era.

I can see the problem with it being Katy Perry, but not with the outfit at all. It doesn't look, unlike everything she usually wears, designed to make her as sexy as possible.

I have to admit, though, that while she appeared in her original dress, for most of the last Tinkerbell film I saw my sister watching she was dressed up like this:

Not that we care at home, but she has surely been toned down (even if her sexy waist/hip combo is still there)

Well, I've seen scene sin wich she is dressed in her ususal costume, but the only time I've sat down to watch (I think it was the final part of the second movie) she was dressed in this kind of "adventure gear". Maybe there's more scenes in wich she wears her classic dres than I thought, though.
