The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

W

Wasabi Poptart

Pfft, thats nothing, after I started watching Mad Men I destroyed my family, had sex with every woman around me AND started smoking a carton of smokes a day.
Imagine what you're going to be like once you're out of diapers!

ECCC Epic Wins:
  • Felicia Day and Amy Okuda geeking out over my Tink costume so much that I didn't get a chance to geek out, myself. Amy tweeted about it Friday! Then on Saturday, Felicia brought up my costume during panel! <3
  • Saturday, took a picture in front of the Sucker Punch standee and the woman at the booth gave me 2 passes to see Sucker Punch on March 23rd!! "We aren't giving many of these out this weekend, but I want you to have these." XD
  • Met up with an old coworker I hadn't seen in about 5 years and had a grand 'ol time! Met up with him Saturday night, he stayed with me and Mike and spent the day at ECCC with us today. Got another old coworker to meet up with us as well and we all went out to dinner together afterward.
  • Didn't win anything in the masquerade (which is fine with me, there were lots of fantastic costumes and I'm more than happy for the best of show winner!) but the director did come up to me after the show to tell me he was pulling for me. :) Before I came on stage he said about 3 times randomly, while introducing other cosplayers to the stage, "by the way, Sucker Punch is awesome!" for no reason at all.
  • Got offered a modeling job today! But I don't think I'll accept since I'm not a model and just cosplay and take photos for fun. :p

Heatherling is my hero! But I some (minor) awesome of my own...

Tuesday: Free passes to "Red Riding Hood" early premier.
Thursday: Free passes to "Battle: Los Angeles" early premier.

I say minor awesomeness because I'm not totally sold on either movie...but they are free movies that I get to see before the rest of the unwashed masses! I'll have to put reviews on here after I've seen them.

Red Riding Hood I'm slightly interested in because I like Amanda Seyfried, but I have to say... hearing "by the director of Twilight!!!" does not help one bit.

It looks way cooler than anything Twilight related but from everything I've heard it's definitely geared towards the same folks.

So I guess what I'm saying is Dave is going to be surrounded by screaming teenage girls. Which is probably nothing new for him. :p

P'ahahaaa, I love family dinners out. My Dad tried to pay for everyone, and then my cousin threw money at him and ran outside. Then he chased her out into the parking lot and ran right through a huge-ass puddle. He didn't catch her... this time. I love my family.

Well, he'd already paid, but she was trying to drunkenly sneak money into his pocket. Then he chased after her. So funny... especially since my Dad's a really big dude. I haven't seen him hustle like that in years! Now I know how to get Dad in shape... get more people to try and pay him back for things!

A local video rental place is going out of business. While this is very sad I couldn't pass up the oppurtunity to but up some of the DVDs he hason sale...and this isn't even out of his rental stock. He's waiting another few weeks before he starts selling off most of his other titles.

Anyways, I got:

Speed Grapher Discs 1-3
Samurai 7 1-2
AppleSeed Ex Machina
DBZ: Fusion Reborn
DBZ: Dead Zone and The Worlds Strongest double set
Paprika
All Dogs go to Heaven
The Secret of Nimh

I'llbe going back as he starts selling things off. He has the whole George Romero collection for sale so I'm looking to snatch that up. Also have my eye on the original Wicker Man and Trick'r'Treat, which Nickguy once recommended to me but I haven't been able to find until now.

Out of curiosity, any interest in a thread for stuff that we find used/super cheap? I'm a thrift store fanatic and a thread like that would be right up my alley.

yes, for the love of god yes.... I could list for a long time all the great deals on OOP movies from places that did not know their true value.
EDIT:
also, speed grapher is 32 flavors of fucked up 2 scoops at a time.

Paprika! SO GOOD! I still need to buy that one, myself.

Three awesome things this week:

1) The kitty we're fostering, who has been super-shy for our entire time with him (almost two months now), came up and sniffed my hand this morning and pulled my finger to his mouth with his paw. This is HUGE progress, since when we first got him he was so terrified he wouldn't even come out from under the bed.

2) LucidChart, in conjunction with Google, had a contest in January. My girlfriend and I collaborated on a flowchart, were selected as winners, and won two Cr-48 Google Laptops--that arrived today! VERY happy, especially since my current laptop is on its last legs.

3) I spoke to the head of the lab I'm working in, and it's official: I will be doing my Ph.D. on the underlying mechanisms of several psychiatric diseases, and will have an AWESOME mentor to work with.

Bringing young people into the finance industry is a huge initiative right now. Lots of money is being spent because no one wants to become an accountant any more - hell, pimping is considered a more honorable profession than banking.

Every year, a Young Leaders Committee puts on a contest where you submit your resume and an essay on three topics: Leadership, Innovation and Community. 5 finalists are chosen from across Canada to go to a leadership conference where they sit before a panel of judges. The finalist there receives a $10,000 scholarship towards a leadership program at a Canadian university as well as an all expense paid trip to the World Council of Credit Unions Conference, this year in Glasgow, Scotland. (Next year in Gdansk, Poland)

I was just informed on Tuesday that I was selected as one of the top 5 in Canada! So at the beginning of May, I'm off to Niagara falls (all expenses paid) for the Leadership Conference. I'm pretty stoked about being a finalist to begin with but winning #1 would be fucking EPIC.

Not to be hatin' on our dear Krisken but....

My cousin with lupus was finally able to have a child despite being a high-risk pregnancy. Daniel Miller. After two miscarriages and/or stillbirths (not sure on details), I am very happy for her and her more immediate family. :)

It's also nice for me to have another person on my father's side of the family that I don't instantly hate. :D

To think fade complains about his "thing". Krisken is associated with Lupus and Pringles!

That's great news, Gusto. :)

I have a fantastic weekend planned. First, Jake's going to pick me up in a couple of hours. We have tickets to the Turtle Island Quartet at the city's newest venue. It's a gorgeous building, and one of the first shows there was my uncle's old band's reunion concert! I get to pretty up in my favorite dress and have a couple of drinks.

Then tomorrow it's off to a special ceremony for my Mama. She's being inducted as a Louisiana Living Legend tomorrow. That's 2 family members who have received that honor. Afterwards it's back to mom and dad's for dinner, cake, and a jam session with all of my musician relatives. We're going to two-step the night away! :D

My son woke up from a long nap this evening, and for the first time in 10 days, he didn't have a high fever. He was able to get up out of bed on his own, and wasn't having trouble breathing.

After what's been going on the past two weeks, I feel a huuuuuuge sense of relief, and I might be able to get a full night's sleep.

That's awesome!

I was going to post something about last night's debauchery but it would just seem frivolous after that.
