Food for thought!

1. What did you think of the Magebear combat encounter?

2. Your personal impressions of the HPOD?

3. Discuss... the Simkin. What/Who/Why/Where/How

4. What did you think of the Fake Salvitor combat encounter?

5. What... what do you think is going on???

Two more doors before the ultimate door opens....
1. I thought it was fun, and once again proves that even if the odds are with us, the odds are against us. I thought it was incredible that the lightning hit Rathkor the FIRST round, and was within 2-3 squares of him for like 3 rounds after that. Once again, I dislike monsters that can teleport. :(

2. Not as good as the iPod. Seriously though, I'm having a ton of fun with it, and am enjoying the new ruling. I still have 16 HPOD count left, so even if I fail 4 more saves, I still have to max out all my d4s before I fade away. We shouldn't even be here that long, given the information we have, but I suspect things won't be quite that simple.

3. The Simkin remains an asshole. After a few more times hearing him talk, I imagine we'll recognize his manner of speech from the note left in the hotel after robbery. Even faster if Rat notices he was pickpocketed. It'd be nice to beat him down and get our money back - the Simkin is much more annoying as an NPC because he doesn't have to OOC tendency to try to keep the party from murdering him.

4. This was my favourite encounter in a while, maybe because I was so effective at it. It started out with the dude waylaying Rathkor's suspicions, by Salvatore suspecting that Rathkor was the fake. Took him off the trail expertly. Incredible. I also noticed, and this is just a theory, that in a person's mind, you are likely to combat something against which you are at the disadvantage. For instance Falagar fought a single Magebear, so couldn't make the best of his AoEs or control spells. The bear was a stronger wizard than Falagar and had brute physical size of his side as well. Then in Rathkor's fight, we fight another solo, avoiding a lot of AoE potential, plus it's concealing fog made striking it from a range with spells very difficult - a very tough enemy for a ranged spellcaster like Rathkor. At this point, I expect to be swarmed by 25 minions in Helga's mind.

5. This is a new agent of chaos in Goodmead, possibly another cultist/priest of Cyric. Why the dreamscape? What does Simkin have to do with it? Where is the real Salvatore? Who knows.

Very nice insight. Should definitely focus on the WHY?

And Teleport is fun because being marked and unable to shift/move gets incredibly boring as a DM thus why most "solo" will have escape abilities. I don't want the players to hide without feeling any danger in combat. I want the creatures to remain mobile and have players go, "oh shi-" "you are unconcious".

Makes me a happy DM. :)

Really? THAT'S how you'd defend yourself?!

That reminds me: When it turned out Rathkor's mind took place and a gladiatorial arena, I assumed we'd have to fight each other, and smiled.

1. Magebear encounter was incredible, and the only time it wasn't was our own crappy dice rolls. I loved the lightning thing; I fully intend to steal the idea and do some variant next time I DM for Gamma World.

2. The HPOD is very interesting; I've already said why mechanically. As for us, in these particular dreams, it's interesting because there's no single theme. Tyrdin's seems to be the distant past and regrets, Falagar's is imagined glory mixed with nightmare, Rathkor's seemed like futility. It makes it hard to predict what we'll see next, which is good. I also recall Jay saying that 3 doors were mainly battle and 3 were mainly puzzle. We've had 2 of each, so I'm curious if Helga's will be the battle or the puzzle.

3. Not trusting the Simkin, but not getting on his bad side. We have more important things to deal with.

4. It was a good boss fight. I'm just waiting for opportunities to use my skills. Falagar and I have been pretty useless as controllers in these past two fights. There was nothing wrong with the encounter though. I did like the pre-combat fake-out.

5. I have no fucking clue what's going on. I can easily assume this power has something to do with the one we encountered in Dougan's Hole, but that's not necessarily true. We were on our way to the direct connection, Easthaven, and stumbled into this. This could be something else entirely. I don't understand why the use of dreams though. We may have been lucky to stumble upon a direct route to the force controlling this place, but that directness is loaded with danger, while everyone else in Good Mead lies dormant.

Very nice feedback thus far.

Someone needs to draw Falagar with the big hands during their spare time.

Lots of ??? going on for question 5. A lot of answers will be provided once that big red door opens up... or will it?

HC will you be here next week?

By the way, I won't be available May 5th (or any day that week). There's a chance I won't be available the Thursday before that, but odds are it will be fine.

Falagar will steal the killing blow from every enemy, say something stupid, and lament about his hands. Simkin will be a dick. We should be able to open that large door. A fight will inevitably ensue.

Rathkor will inadvertantly attack his teammates or allow an evil power to rise.

Helga will miss 60%+ of her attacks and come close to dying despite innumerable bonuses to attacks, damage, defenses and HP.

Rusty will kill innocents. Tyrdin might kill a baby animal and the two will become friends over their mutual hobby. lol

Perhaps in two weeks.

I strongly doubt the party will be done in the HPOD this week and I'd rather not break from the storyline till say... an interlude.

April 14th = Off

Hey jay, any chance i can make one minor alteration to my charachter? basically, i want to change the secondary dragon breath damage type from lightning damage to Cold damage.

I don't "kill innocents", I "solve problems quickly".

Ah lightning damage, nobody is resistant to it, and nobody is vulnerable to it and nobody deals it. Lightning damage, the unwanted damage type of 4E.
