I'm assuming she no longer has said job? If that's the case I'm sorry to hear it.

Smart guy.

My rant: Nothing quite as creepy as a 50 year old dad who refers to his teenage girls as "hotties" and "my hot girl" and titles a pic of his teenage daughter on his motorcycle "get your motor runnin!":Leyla:

Are they?

Well, here's a rant in which I feel like a terrible person...

Last Thursday night I had plans to go out to a sports bar to catch two Chicago playoff games with friends, and afterwards we headed out and saw a late viewing of Source Code. Anyway, just before I was set to head out, my 3-year-old son was eating ice cream with some other kids among the friends I was heading out with. I had to tell him several times to stop messing around with the ice cream, as he was making a mess of things screwing around with the food in an attempt to be silly. Eventually, the ice cream hit the floor because of it, and I took it away and yelled at him that he wasn't getting any more ice cream, and that it was his fault he wasn't getting any more, and that he had to sit in timeout for 3 minutes. During the 3 minutes, my friends and I left for the sports bar/movie.

I didn't get home until after 3 (no work Friday!), and as I was walking into my bedroom, I heard my son calling for me. I went into his room, and he was sitting there, still crying. He told me "Daddy, I'm really sorry about not listening to you and for ruining the ice cream. Please promise you won't leave me any more." So...yeah, it looks like he spent the better portion of seven hours in his bed being sad and worried that I had left him because of what he did.

Awww. I feel horrible when I try putting Jet to bed and he doesn't want to go...I can't imagine coming home to that. :(

I feel for ya.

Now he knows not to fuck around with the ice cream. :awesome:

Rhiannon just took her first tumble out of our bed when my wife had stepped out, rolling over double-stacked pillows.

I had left my phone at home by accident today, and had to get this news from my academy buddy. While I was sitting on two transports. I am now stuck at the hospital, because one of these transports has to be cleared at the hospital before the jail will take him

I am so fucking frustrated it's not even funny... thankfully, my buddy got me my phone, but still... I just want to get home and hold both of them... apparently Rhiannon is doing better than my wife...

You never forget the first time you drop your first kid on their head....

Fortunately the little tykes are quite durable. Still, it's not a fun experience. Our first son fell halfway down a flight of wooden stairs - no carpeting or padding - just a few days after I lost my job. It served to convince my wife that paying for health insurance (cobra) was worth it even though it would shorten the time we could live off savings. We got xrays and such but he was just sore for a few days. Our most recent kid, however, took a tumble out of the bed and broke a bone when he was only 7 months old:

Fortunately it wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been, and the bone is growing fine - no cast, no surgery. Doubly fortunate that it's the kind of break that isn't linked with child abuse. My brother had a friend who's child was removed from the home for months due to an investigation after the kid fell off a couch.

It's frustrating and sad right now, but everything will be fine. It's amazing how little everything else seems to matter when your family is hurt. It was harder on my wife than the kids, because while she didn't make an unreasonable choice, it could have been prevented.

I know it seems major right now, but I'm finding that this kind of crap happens all the time despite my best efforts to watch Jet like a hawk.

They always pull through...I also find the less I freak out, the less time it takes him to get over it. It's like, if I act calm and steady, he believes that everything is okay.

I dropped my son when he was an infant during a 3am feeding. I was sitting with him on our couch, giving him a bottle. I was so tired, the couch was so comfy, warm baby in my lap, and next thing I knew I drifted off. That was when he fell right out of my lap, hitting his head on the nursing stool I had my feet propped up on and onto the floor.

Awwww... man, lol.

Piotyr, man, that story... between that and my sister describing her daughter's first serious talk with her about death... Those tastes of what guts-deep, parental love feels like just tear me up inside.

Okay, I'm able to talk about this now as it really doesn't matter.

My wife found a job not too long ago. About a month, right? Well, that job is a secretary job at a roofing company.

In essence here's the job. She takes phone calls. When she gets a call she assigns a salesman (one of two) to that contact. If that salesman makes a sale she then schedules a roofing team to go work the job. Of course, there's a bit more to it, but that's the main essence.

She's been having some trouble as the lady training her did the old "rush through this now sink or swim" training method, which made my wife very uncomfortable and frustrated when she was berated for making mistakes. A couple times when she was questioned the training lady threw my wife under the bus saying, "I showed her that!" On Friday my wife got written up for making a scheduling error and for sending me an email asking what she should do about her check. meanwhile the rest of the office does things like surf the web for a new puppy, etc.

In addition, she is allowed 2 sick days per year (and has to show a doctor's note if she misses) and I do not even know if she's allowed vacation.

Yesterday she went in and they had a meeting where it was discussed that they were moving to a commission only policy of pay, meaning that if her call/sales ratio was not up to par she wouldn't get paid at all! To top it off, the lady who trained her will get first crack at all calls and my wife would only be runoff as the other lady had seniority.

So looking at her options - possibility of low/no pay, no vacation, bullshit sick day policies, hostile work environment - she's going to be getting her paycheck and telling them to stick it. She has an interview Thursday with another company.

While I don't like it, I'm fully supporting her. I know she really, REALLY wanted this job and it just turned out to be opposite of what she thought it would be.
