[Webcomic] PVP Discussion

Honestly, the only reason I really read PvP is because I don't bookmark the comics I read, and the URL kind of flows from my fingers out of habit.

I really think the only thing that's changed is now I have no reason to read his rants and my respect for him as dropped a little lower.

Okay I'm calling bullshit on this one.

Seriously!? "I don't like the comic guys, not at all, the only reason I still go is because idle hands are Kurtz's playthings." What!?

Let me add, I do enjoy PvP still, but it's true that I just kind of... end up typing in the website without thinking. Going there has just been part of my internet ritual since as long as I can internetremember.

I never type URLS any more, I have favorites or RSS feeds that do everything for me... but if I'm at an unfamiliar computer, my hands revert to habits from 10 years ago, and when I try to think of a URL to type, one of the first ones to come up is pvponline.com, from back when he hosted our forums.

I don't hate the comic. I just have no particular interest in it. But when I'm idly at my computer, my hands tend to type out giantitp.com, penny-arcade.com, gunnerkrigg.com, starslip.com, pvponline.com, smbc-comics.com and gigaville.com (an extremely-poorly-drawn comic called "last days of foxhound" used to be at that last one. Now it's some weird poorly-drawn flash game.)

I also occasionally type out ctrlaltdel-online.com. Muscle memory does weird things.

What's sad is I have to think for a moment to remember other, better comics that I read now, like drmcninja.com

PvP is chock full of Chuck Cunninghams.
At least the bus comes by all the time.

And now the Trenches is on break until March 20th. Maybe after a break it might start getting better. For me, it's been pretty much forgettable so far, mostly due to the main character being unlikable.

The reason i never read PA was because I had to click to get to the comic. Yeah, it's a stupid excuse. I don't really care though. They're all free comics and if I can get my fix with another a whole lot easier I'll go there. QC is about the only one I check out anymore. It updates on time or ahead of time, and it has likeable characters. I'm sure Scott won't miss my loss of readership. He'll probably get plenty of new readers riding the success of friends, so good for him.

Sounds like he's getting as complacent as the paper alternatives he likes to rage about. Ad plastered websites are so 1990's tripod.

Yeah, the main character pretty much has no redeeming qualities... and yet I can't ke the feeling that the authors want us to like him, but didn't realize the character needed to actually be sympathetic for that to work.

I read Trenches for the tester horror stories. Everyone wails and gnashes their teeth about Foxconn, but we turn our backs to the plight of the employees at the big videogame houses?

Yeah, I know those folks signed up voluntarily, but how far is too far before they finally decide it's not worth that shit to get Robbie and Jase the next iteration of Madden?

I found QC through references over at Wapsi Square and (occasionally) PVP. QC's more of my fave (and I'm more active over in their forums).

He simply added that strip plus the Zing to get people to stop hounding him over the stolen character.

He wasn't Max like, he was already as stolen character from another famous person.

Today's strip felt like a total bandaid on a idiot move he can't cover up.

It had been funny to me if he had actually created a character, like he berates everyonelse to do, then swung it around to circle joke on Max. Otherwise, it's a cheap cop out and flat.

Again, I see the similarities and see how the joke would work if the character they're using wasn't a joke/copy in the first place.

While I feel this is just Kurtz trying to fix a stupid mistake I will still say that this was one of the funnier comics he has done recently. Not ROFL funny but still funny enough to put a little smile on my face.
