It completely reinforces the whole he was cut content for sure. However, it's awesome and you absolutely miss out not taking him.

Origin says your name doesn't exist.

So, I've been reading a lot of shit talking about the ending.

people claiming that it's worse than Dragon Age 2 and other such shit. Never giving many reasons. I was ok with the ending. I'm not sure what people fucking expected. Everything to wrap up with a happy bow? Did the game at any point feel as though it was going to end happily? It's not really an unhappy ending anyway. They went with the whole noble sacrifice. How else would space Jesus end the series. I think people are pissy because the ending pretty much closes the book on the Mass Effect universe as it is. There's no real way to go forward from there without jumping faaaaaar into the future.

Oh and guys, no spoilers here, but if you have Javik, TAKE HIM WITH YOU TO THESSIA. Seriously.

Ending:
I'm not super happy with the ending to be honest. I think the choices are dumb. I get that they are going to kill off Shepard in one form or another. But it's control and lose yourself/kill and destroy space travel as we know it/merge every form of life with artificial life?! I don't really get that last option. And I find it dumb. The very fact that the ending is like "SORRY SYNTHETIC AND ORGANIC LIFE CAN NEVER COEXIST UNLESS EVERYONE IS ORGANIC AND SYNTHETIC LOL is basically assinine to me. And also, the ending was too short. Needs more crew stories IMO. Maybe that only happens with the perfect ending, idk

It doesn't. Every ending destroys the mass relays though so no matter what, the galaxy is changed. And on the coexistence thing, that isn't really the ending, that's what the guardian ex machina believes. You can do the paragon ending, sacrifice yourself, and the rest can live on synthetic and organic alike or you can renegade it, destroy all synthetics for the good of organics and live (with enough points) or you can mystic space magic everyone into weird psuedo-magic-space-robot-people. I'm a sucker for bittersweet though.

Here's what I'm not fond of the ending about. It really demystifies the reapers. It makes them tools rather than something we're simply to primitive to understand. Guardian and his solution midichlorian'd the reapers in my opinion.

Also, ugh to the Bioware forums. Nearly all the complaining is about not getting an ending where everyone lives happily ever after together. It's fucking idiot bullshit like that that gets movies with endings that aren't quite "Hollywood happy" as focus groups like and we end up with nonsense like the last bit of Mission Impossible 4 just to make the movie happier.

Not gonna lie, I'm trying to figure out why the Normandy was flying through a Mass relay at the end. Pretty confused there. I didn't have a sacrifice and live peacefully option, unless you're talking about the controlling Reapers thing. I was also 75% renegade, or as I like to say Renegon. I couldn't bring myself to do asshole things to my former crew... unless you count the Quarian debacle.

Also, does anyone notice that Mass Effect 3 is basically Dragon Age: Origins in space?

Both have super powerful ultra bad guys that only pop out of hiding after a huge amount of time (comparatively) has passed, Reapers and the Archdemon respecitively. Both games have you gathering the disparate forces in the land/universe to create an army to fight back. Reapers make different husk monsters out of the separate alien species, the darkspawn are different monsters depending on which race is infected with the blight.

One is supposed to end in the sacrifice of the main character and the other you end up sacrificing yourself to win

Bioware is just ripping itself off now.

Some clarification as to why they were motoring there would have been nice too, it was very lazy. Then again, this game was very lazy overall. The sidequests are pretty unforgivably so. Borrowing one of the lamest mechanics from Dragon Age 2 was fucking lame.

So basically we get a freaking rainbow ending a la matrix revolutions? The more buzz I hear the more I don't even want to bother finishing this game.

Would say it's closer to the ending of the series Beast Machines, at least the path Frankie took.

The thing is Frankie, I don't mind when the end of a movie is not a happy one, but the issue is Mass Effect is not a movie, it's closer to a choose your own adventure book if we are going to use mediums outside of games. If an RPG gives you a choice in how you carry out situations, both good, neutral, or bad, then people expect those choices to reach a conclusion they want or feel they earn, often that being with the hero coming out on top of the game.

A movie you have no control, you are just the "eye of the audience" watching the events unfold, but in a game when your choices shape the person, you become heavily invested. I don't want my Shepard to give into the choices handed at the end, I want him to punch that AI in the face and save the galaxy without destroying how we know it.

Even then, most are not even unhappy about the fact that the endings are mostly "downers", it's the fact that you don't really get much of a choice. At the best you get three options and none of them actually save the galaxy in the way you worked your ass off to save.

Basically how I feel too. The options you get at the end all blow. Sacrificing yourself is one thing, doing it for a goal that makes no sense due to the fact that you have to share the opinion of a AI manifestation of your guilt... And having part of yourself being machine to replace body parts is not the same as being part synthetic life, pretty sure Shepard's fully organic brain would disagree

Damnit, choices.....

ROMANCE - HEEEELP

So, I've been super nice to Ashley all game. Visited her multiple times in the hospital, always chose Paragon, bought her a book. Chatted with her all the time but the romance options isn't coming. She was my ME1 romance.... Tali was my ME2 romance.... Ashley knows about Tali but I said I wanted to continue with her anew... I was nice to her during the "coup" mission... now Tali is back... and she's in my room... and she wants to be with me... who do I choose? I'd like to see how things pan out with Ashley.... but I heard romances can be glitchy in Me3 and your first "romance" option locks you in.... the "conflict of old" are gone.... What to do... WHAT TO DO..... when is Ashley going to finally send me that email to hang out with her?

Well Jay, I don't know about the Ashley romance, but the Kaiden one was really good all the way through the game.
If Tali is going to stay on your crew (and I don't know if she does or not because my game didn't work out that way), then it might be worth doing. If she bails on your crew after the Quarian quests are done, then I wouldn't stick with her tbh.

I like the game, I really do... but the fact I usually have 2 choices at best is slowly irking me. What really annoys me is that feeling that I'm watching a cutscene as I watch my Shep auto-speak a handful of times during conversations. It feel more natural... yes.... but it isn't what this series gave me in the past.... it feels streamlined.

Tali stays with you after you retake her homeland, either through peace with the Geth or killing the Geth. Actually if you rekindle the romance before doing any of the quests on Rannoch, you get extra scenes and more dialog to point towards the relationship. Once she joins up with you and you talk with her in the Normandy, she then puts a picture of her up in your cabin, letting the players see her "face" for the first time. To be honest, she pretty much looks like a supermodel human that got some fingers cut off, was expected them to at least have a different skin coloring like the purple coloring that is popular in fan art.

So, um, did anyone else get the PS3 version?

crickets...
I plan to!

Once we have money to buy it. And buy Mass Effect 2, so I can play that first. And money to buy Mass Effect 1, so I can play that before it...

Might be a while. In fact, by the time I get to ME3, I'm pretty sure no one's going to be doing the multi-player, so I'll be doing side missions to get a higher rating.

Yep, didn't work out that way for me, no peace option.

From what I understand, here is how it works.

First, and most obvious, you need to have both Tali and Legion surviving ME2. They both have to be involved for it to work since they are the ones that call off the war on the ground. After that it's supposedly about some hidden "points" that you gain based on things in ME2. If you destroy the Geth Herectics, you get 2 points, but if you rewrite them, you get none. If you prevent Tali from being exiled, you get 2 points, but if she is exiled, you get none. Then you have a chance of getting a total of 4 more points through the general extra quests like the server quest and saving the Quarian Admiral. If you don't have the Admiral you don't get his points towards peace. Finally, you need to have high reputation, enough to have a Paragon or Renegade option. If you have at least 5 of the points I mentioned above, you are golden. If you notice though, the only way to get those five points is through a old save upload, you are pretty much screwed if you start ME3 from scratch since it automatically picks the options that don't give the points.

If you have all that, once you tell Legion to do the upload, he will start and Tali will beg you to not let it happen. With the high reputation you get the paragon/renegade option of speaking with the Quarian fleet directly, and with Tali reinforcing the order, plus that of the Admiral you saved, the other Admirals back off and stop attacking the Geth. Legion sacrifices himself to finish the upload and the Quarian's land on the planet, the Geth welcoming them and saying they will help build the Qurians a new home so that they can live together as equals rather then enemies.

Already know why It didn't work out that way for me, commented on it earlier in the thread. Just pointing out that I didn't know what would happen for Jay.

New writers, which explains a HELL of a lot.

The old lead writer, as mediocre a writer as he was, was put to work on SWTOR before he quit Bioware and video games in general.

Nope.I havent played with you guys yet.Have done 3 quick games and enjoyed them quite a lot as an Infiltrator.
Thinking about going Vanguard though.

I have played a few games online. My first game was a total victory (geth on bronze) and I jumped 6 levels in one game with my infiltrator.

Vanguard is pretty godlike... unless you charge into an Atlus, a turret, or a Pyro. (Or Banshee, or a Brute.... etc etc etc)

>.>
<.<
>.>

NOT THAT I WOULD EVER DO THAT.

I unlocked the Krogan sentinel... holy crap.

Geth coming at you? PUNCH IT IN THE FACE!

Atlas gunning you down? PUNCH IT IN THE FACE!

Genophage destroying your species? ....PUNCH IT IN THE FACE!

Well I just beat the game.

I was really not happy with the endings like I was worried I would be. I also disliked the whole "The reapers work for me actually, this is the job they do!" shit with the little kid that they just throw on you. It's just that all the endings pretty much screw people over. Tali will never see Rannoch again after finally getting it back, the only way to kill the Reapers is to also destroy a friend and an entire civilization after finally helping them achieve true sentience, and turning into techno-organic creatures, while the "good" ending, kind of destroys all the races natural evolutionary identities. All that trouble helping the Korgan cure the genophage? Probably worthless now since they are half-robot, oh, and Wrex will never get to meet his kids.

While it was cool seeing Harbinger fry everyone, including myself, I was hoping to hear him talk again. The guy taunted me nearly all of ME2, and in ME3 you don't even see him till the end, and then he is just silent and never says anything.

Maybe I would feel better if I got to see what really happened to my squad and friends after the ending, but it never really shows you. All the endings pretty much end up the same way for the crew, they crash on some jungle planet (not earth, mind you, since they were going through the relay at the time for whatever reason, it's never actually explained) and they get off the ship and poof, credits. In only one of the endings is Tali and Garrus going to survive, unless that planet is dextro-amino, and if that is the case then everyone ELSE dies.

I just feel underwhelmed, there was no option to really save the galaxy, and the reason for having to make these choices as given by the kid was hilariously stupid and spits in the face with what I did for Tali and Legion. I also find it hilarious that the kid created the Reapers, giant machines, to wipe out the life of advanced species, so that giant machines don't wipe out life in general. What?
