The way I see it, each Assassin's Creed game is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. They take the same core gameplay and add a handful of innovations to each successive game. Some of the innovations are good, some are meh, and some are outright terrible.

Brotherhood is my favorite of the bunch, followed closely by Assassin's Creed 2. Though AC2 gets some points taken off for mild consolitis. Brotherhood felt like it did almost everything right. The gameplay was solid, the assassin recruits were a nice addition, and the storyline was decent. Then for Revelations, they took some steps back. A tower defense minigame was shoehorned into the game. The recruits got some added functionality, such as being able to send them on missions and take over Mediterranean cities, except there's at least one major crash associated with the Mediterranean defense minigame. The storyline felt lightweight, with the big bad of the game introduced far too late to make any sort of emotional impact.

Revelations still a good game. It's just that Brotherhood felt better.

Okay I have to stop, I have already spent way to much money on games by this point, nickel and dimmed away a good chunk of my entertainment budget.

I may still buy something if the deal and the game are "OMG I CAN'T MISS THIS" but otherwise, I am happy with what I have!

I keep trying to buy Arkham City for 66% off but it keeps failing. I guess lots of people are trying to buy it too.

My Steam Store freezes whenever I click a link, and Portal 2 won't load the leaderboards. Steam must be experiencing major traffic today.

In regards to the Assasin's Creed games, Storyline wise, Brotherhood comes before Revelations, so I would recommend playing that first.

I've been surprisingly reserved in my sale gorging. Only picking up KOTOR, Crysis Collection, YS: Oath in Felgana, Trine 2 and Harley's Revenge.

Which, considering the sales, I think I've held back quite a bit.

There's a flash sale right now for a Double Fine package of three games: Psychonauts, Costume Quest, and Stacking. $7.49. I recommend getting it if you don't already own them. :)

Duke Nukem Forever is flash saled right now at 4.99, which is still about 67 dollars more than anyone should pay.

DNF wasn't AWFUL. It wasn't great either, it was thoroughly mediocre. But come now, it certainly was no Daikatana. Really, for anyone jonesing for the old Duke 3D feel, though, Serious Sam 3 feels like the proper successor.

Serious Sam scratches the old school Doom itch for me. It doesn't really feel like Duke to me (except for maybe the whacky weapons).

I think the alien rape and boob walls push it firmly into the awful category.

That's an aesthetic thing, though. Offensive, sure, but offensive aesthetics doesn't make a bad game. Bad gameplay makes a bad game. And DNF doesn't have bad gameplay, it's just nothing spectacular and certainly not worth the 10+ year wait.

Duke Nukem Forever has bad gameplay. It tries to mix being an old school shooter with everything that fucking sucks about modern FPSs and fails spectacularly at both. Limited run, only being able to have two weapons at once, very limited ammo, terrible corridor levels. The gameplay of Duke Nukem Forever was a disaster.

Am I weird for getting pissed off when something I vote for for a new sale doesn't win and something that's on sale constantly (Torchlight) does?

Oh GFWL, every time. Every God damn time I deal with you you make me want to smash everything I own, burn my house to the ground and begin a life as a crime fighting hobo who's first crime he must solve is the destruction of everyone who ever had anything to do with your creation.

Getting Harley Quinn's Revenge to work has taken probably more time than the 3 hours DLC plays.

This is unacceptable. This is wholly unacceptable. I am going to read, very carefully, any game I buy from now on. If even any word in the requirements has a G, an F, a W or an L I am not going to buy it. This is my solemn fucking vow. Fuck you GFWL.

Harely's Revenge can suck my dick too as a game. I took out every single fucking guy in the entire area (all 12 million snipers who all have a psychic connection), go into the wrong God damn door, come out and every one I had taken down is up and ready to roll again. Fuck this game.

The Total War pack sale is nuts. 75% off ever y game - and of the pack that contains everything for a discount already- 90+ euros down to 11.99. I already owned the two newer games and a couple of the DLCs, and it's still worth it for the other expansions and DLCs. And for a back-up of the older games (plus expansions I've never played) I have on disc.

Dumb shit aside, at 3 bucks Harley Quinn's Revenge is barely worth it. Barely. It's maybe an hour long. It isn't fun and it's entirely reused assets. I was under the impression it took at least 3 hours to complete. That's nonsense.

So, it took me longer dealing with fucking GFWL bullshit than it did to actually play through.

At full price it's fucking extortion. One of the worst DLC's I've been dumb enough to purchase.

You highly recommend this pack? I'm a big fan of the Command and Conquer/Warcraft 2 RTS games (already bought the AoE 3 collection a couple of days ago). I've been out of gaming for a while, as they seem to get bigger/fancier/more complicated, and I'm looking into games that won't struggle on my 2 year old laptop.

Well, if your laptop's twwo years old, you've got a decent chance at least one of Napoleon or Empire won't run decently (my laptop runs both and is 2 years and a bit old, but was fairly expensive at the time - just saying I can't guarantee it'll play). Depends a bit on your hardware - most people find Napoleon more playable on older machines, I had less issues with Empire. Medieval and Rome will certainly run.

Bear in mind that the Total War games are quite complicated; definitely more so than the older C&Cs or Warcrafts. It's turn based and there's slightly more to be done (depending on the version).

But anyone who enjoys strategy should give at least a glance to these games. I play'm for the campaigns and don't really enjoy the real time battles; others play solely for the historical battles and such. Depends on what your idea of fun is. But yes, for €12 for the 4 games and all their expansions, it's beyond good.

Anyone have an opinion on Sins of a Solar Empire? I have never played a 4X game, but I tend to enjoy games in the strategy genre.

If you're worried about whether games will run on your laptop, you could try Can You Run It?

It's pretty damn good if that's your bag. I could never get into it myself. A friend of mine who fucking lives by the Total War games is also a diehard Sins player.

I really like Sins. But the fact that they make a couple changes every year and rerelease it for 40 bucks with a new name after the colon is highway robbery.

If any of you haven't already voted for Longest Journey, fuckin' do it. I'm hoping if it wins it'll make both it and Dreamfall a cheap combo.

Yay!

They're both supa-cheap. Dreamfall was one of the only adventure games I've ever enjoyed. Probably because it was so fucking different from anything I had ever played before. I look forward to trying it's predecessor Longest Journey.

Bought both. If I hate them, I'm blaming you Frank. ;)
