Nothing. Had this guy not looked like my friend I probably wouldn't have noticed anything and made comments as well. I think the realization will help me in the future.
A neckbeard is a beard where the majority of the unshorn growth is on the neck, as opposed to the jaw, chin, or cheeks. It's been a common feature for a long time for the overweight to "disguise" their neck fat/extra chin. Back in the 80s and 90s, nerdy, geeky stereotypes were usually clean shaven. But somewhere along the line, things changed. Now the stereotype for the socially awkward american has changed from this:
Yeah, I'm all for making fun of people for things they do or say. The way they look, though? Maybe not so much. And by that I mean not so much any more. I'm just as guilty of that as anyone. But I'm trying real hard to be the Shepherd.

True gender equality will never be a achieved until women are making an equal number of terrible, cringeworthy advances on men. So long as the roles of chaser and chased continue to fall along the same gender lines (along with the key and lock conquest metaphor), equality can only be artificially obtained through an understood quid pro quo.
Some of those were actually clever.
