....For once, I have to disagree. I mean, I've leaned back on my girlfriend's foot in...pretty much that position. Considering the angle her leg is at, she'd have to have extremely long lower legs, you'd normally not see the foot peeking out that far - but it's definitely a pose possible with the foot angled like that, without breaking anything.

We, the parents, paid for it and thus, decided which courses we were going to pay for. Helicopter parenting at its finest, you know.

So, have any of you joiks watched the Justice League Gods and Monsters shorts? Pretty stoked to see the actual movie. I missed the Bruce Timm look a lot. Stoked to see a longer story involving Superman, son of Zod, Wonder Woman of New Genesis and Vampire Batman. Just watched the Superman short so far, but I'll post all three.

If the whole movie is more like the Superman and Wonder Woman ones, I'm in. The stuff with Harley Quinn was just trying so fucking hard with the grimdark.

Yeah, just watched that. But it's vampire Batman, it can go as silly as it wants.

I REALLY hate that look for Harley too. I blame the comics for that shit.

Vamp-Batman I have no problem. We've seen a Vamp-Batman in the comics before. It's the Harley stuff that bothers me the most. They just went way too far with it.

I remember that, with the "curse of the Vampiri" (a virus that bonds to hemoglobin? Whatever.) That was about the same time they turned Batgirl into a naga, wasn't it? I just assume someone important at DC felt like everyone had to have fangs for some reason.

Was that in the '90s? That sounds like the '90s.

Anyway, I did a little reading about the upcoming Justice League: Gods and Monsters film (which these shorts are a part of). Apparently, the Batman of this world is Kirk Langstrom, who's better known as the villain Man-Bat in mainstream continuity.

Stan Lee was rushed to the hospital this weekend, but apparently seemed fine at the Ant Man premiere.

I'm sure it was just to receive his monthly blood sacrifice.

Ah, he's totally ripe to become that villain who used to be a hero, but then took things one step too far to preserve himself.

Yeah I saw a big flap over that. He basically took over 4 spaces and blocked access to other people.

So... he's basically occupied tables that were booked by other people? Why didn't the organizers go up to him and say, "No, you can't do that, move your shit away from the tables that don't belong to you"? Is he too big a name to piss off?

This is exactly what I'm wondering. There is, I assume, money involved here. These artists are selling their wares, right? Hell, I have to assume that these are invited guests, because if I paid for a table, I'd be threatening legal action if a convention moved me without cause. Location matters to sales, and if my sales were going to be impacted by some asshat with an overinflated sense of self-worth, I'd want compensation.

Especially if someone sees your name at a certain table in the con's booklet, only to find you not there. Then they have to HUNT to find you. Which, at a con, can be tough. So Suydam is screwing them out of sales, too, and thus their livelihood.

That's not even including the price of travel and the price of anything you had to make FOR the con in order to have product to sell. If these guys weren't able to sell anything because of this move, the Con is liable for their losses.

This whole situation seems odd. MCC is large enough that you'd think they'd have a professional team managing vendor/invitee relationships, and they should have already been on top of this (or at least the aftermath).

GAAAAAAAAAAH Why does everything for girls these days need to be set in a high school. Monster High, Ever After High, now DC Super Hero High? UUUUUUGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH. This is actually a great way to turn my daughter off from it, because she'll think it's like Monster High and not be interested. It probably will be, so she'll be right. :p
Because girls buy this shit up? Literally, that's the main reason. If girls didn't like it, it wouldn't sell and no one would push it. But Monster High? It makes SO MUCH fucking money. Even my little cousins dig it.

I know it's dumb and degrading, and I agree little girls deserve better, but it makes money. Lots and lots of money. And that's all Warner Brothers cares about right now.

And time lost, too. Days spent sitting at a booth with your customers unable to find you, are days that you're not working on your next project.

Apparently "strong, athletic bodies that stand on their own in heroic poses," is code for "they all have the exact same figure." They all even seem to be the same height. Why didn't the Super BFFs get made into a series?

EDIT: And it just dawned on me, looking at the current Monster High lineup, that they're all the exact same size because they're going to be made into a line of dolls, and dolls aren't allowed to have body diversity.

For the same reason they originally created Robin, Aqualad, Wonder Girl, etc.: kids are easier to sell to than adults. Kids want someone close to their age, albeit slightly older, they can relate to and use as their "avatar" to get into the stories.

But I also feel your frustration that it seems like everything targeted to girls has to be that "high school" aged, even MLP and anime. Somehow marketing has found the "not a girl, not yet a woman" money-making sweet spot and won't let go. Incidentally, it seems to reinforce a cultural vacuum that girls should aspire to be young and pretty and free, but never women, because, ew, women are old and no one wants old.
