Comic Book News

So I ordered the #1 Issue of Marvel Darth Vader based on reviews in this thread and it didn't disappointment. In fact, I thought it was excellent. I've already ordered the second issue. I've actually never actually bought a single comic book in my life, so this is surprising even to me.
Just a quick note, the trade paperback of Vader is coming out in about two months. I'm pretty sure I saw it in the comic order list that posted over the weekend for May shipping.

There's a new Spider-Man event coming soon called Dead No More, which involves Spider-Man related villains and supporting characters who have died coming back from the grave. Two characters that Marvel are teasing as returning are Dr. Octopus and Gwen Stacy.

Meh. No one stays dead in comics anymore, so it's kind of a non-event. Especially Gwen, who's been all over the Marvel Universe in one form or another lately.

I really wish they wouldn't kill off characters they don't want to lose. Either keep them alive, or leave them dead and create someone else to fill the void. (Sorry, Bucky/Winter Soldier.)

They've been teasing Doc Ock here and there for awhile. That big green robot he rebuilt as Pete is housing his consciousness, apparently.

I knew about the Living Brain thing having happened. It's Gwen that seems like an odd one, though. Spider-Gwen can pretty much fill in for that without having to actually resurrect Gwen Stacy.

If it doesn't involve Peter's marriage with Mary Jane coming back from the dead and Peter spending 26 pages explaining why it was dumb to ever make that deal with Mephisto, I'm not sure I care...

I swear, in the event that I EVER become the head writer of the Spider-Man books (assuming I can pry if from Dan Slott's COLD DEAD HANDS), the opening page of my run would be Peter punching out Mephisto.[DOUBLEPOST=1459645029,1459644935][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, I think I heard somewhere that Uncle Ben is among the resurrected in this storyline. Which means he's the last bastion of supposedly "stay dead" characters along with Bucky and Jason Todd.

Wasn't that supposed to be one of the linchpins of the Marvel universe? Cap's shield can never be permanently destroyed, and Uncle Ben stays dead forever (well, except for that one time).

They had Uncle Ben come back in the Spider-man cartoon; I think the 90s one? That really went off the rails after I stopped watching, but there was a storyline with Peter Parkers from different parallel universes. In one of them, Peter had fused with the Carnage symbiote, and the only way vanilla Peter could get through to him was by pulling out a Ben Parker from one of those universes to talk sense into him.

That's not technically Uncle Ben resurrection, but it kinda is.

Slott did this with that Spider-Verse event last year. Basically Morlun has a whole family of spider-eating vampire-things, and they hunt through dimensions for prey. 616 Pete dimension-hops to build an army of Spider-Men/Women/etc to stop Morlun's family from killing them all. It's how Spider-Gwen and Silk came about, and while the event was pretty meh there were a few fun parts (entering the Spider-Man and Friends cartoon, a one-off of Morlun entering the daily comic strip, Japanese Spider-Man with his mech, etc). At one point they find out Uncle Ben became the Spider-Man of one universe, and that plays a part in the final few issues of the series.

Did they also enter the Hostess Fruit Pie comics ?

A list of mostly forgotten Wonder Woman villains that will definitely not see the big screen.

The only one I disagree on is Doctor Psycho. He's incredibly creepy and they modernized him enough that he can work.

Egg-Fu, The Crimson Centipede, Mouse Man, and The Blue Snowman? Probably not. Though I'd give ANYTHING to see them try pulling off Egg-Fu on the big screen.

They actually use Dr. Psycho in DC Universe Online. He's incredibly fucked up.

Well, they could bring back the Dark Commander, I suppose. That seems like the sort of villain Hollywood would like.
Or maybe the Red Dragon? Nah, that probably wouldn't fly in this day and age...unless they want to play it like a G.I. Wonder Woman v. Red Cobra kind of thing.

Yeaho, Dr. Psycho honestly seems like one who could make the translation to film form. As for Egg-Fu, they'd probably try pulling a page from 52 and going with the Chang Tzu version of the character.

I have to agree with the sentiment. I also have to confess that I was first introduced to his work with his take on the Spirit, which I thought was great stuff. Such a shame to lose Darwyn Cooke.

Whoa. Given that I have subscriptions to all Image titles (Invincible, Sex Criminals, Saga, and Chew), I might see if they fall under that.

EDIT: Looks like all but Invincible are listed. Though like Marvel Unlimited, I imagine there's some gap on how long it takes for the latest issue to be included.

I have to wonder, though, whether this will hurt how much creators will get from digital sales.

Based on the music industry, quite a bit comparatively. It will be interesting to see how much it cuts into digital sales versus growing the overall audience. It's hard to say why kind of effrct digital had on print, they're largely different audiences, and if it has any impact it was to cut into growth. I see this potentially cutting into digital sales though, which could seriously hurt these publishers and creators. Then again it could reach a much larger audience, not eat into the digital sales, and be a big boon.

In a similar situation, WWE workers saw major cuts when the Network debuted. In fact, it's one of the reasons CM Punk quit, because they were constantly unclear on how much of a cut he'd see. Unlike, say, profits from pay-per-view, merchandise, or ticket sales, which was in his contract.

Dear Marvel:

WHAT

THE

FUCK

Spoilers for the new Steve Rogers: Captain America book.

How do you even justify such a heel-turn in character? The guy's been fighting fascism and evil for decades and now suddenly he works for them? I get they want people to hate this for some reason but man what a stupid writing choice.

e: More spoilers now that I've read it:

I'm 99% sure this is Red Skull brainwashing. A lot of hints like uses of color in flashbacks, among other things. Also he threw Jack Flag out of a moving jet, so I guess we'll see where that goes.
