I kind of feel like the upcoming Shazam/Captain Marvel movie is going to be what determines my fate with DC. If they can make a good, fun, kid friendly action movie (not even a GREAT one, just a decent one) then I'm willing to give them a chance. But they have gotta drop this dark shit. It's boring.

Let's be honest, Marvel's comic have been a mess for over a decade, and needed to get flushed out/rebooted. I mean, remember that time 90% of the world's mutants lost their power because of (I think) Scarlet Witch? Let's just hope they don't use the reboot as an excuse to change beloved characters into shit, like New 52 did.
That's my main fear. I've gone to reading some Marvel titles and I'd hate to see them fall into the same stupid New 52 idiocy that infected DC.
As long as they don't make the new Spidey more like the new cartoon version, I'll be cool....theoretically. There are a lot of ways this could go and most of them are bad.
The only thing I want to stay the same is Posehn/Duggan on Deadpool, unless they get moved as a pair to Spidey. They're a fantastic team, and they write snippy/sarcastic characters on a level you don't really see anywhere else.

I am all for Brian Posehn getting lots of comic writing work. Because then maybe he won't have time to do any voice work/acting. Because the sound of that guy's voice makes me want to cut him into pieces and stir fry him and FEED HIM TO THE CAT.
It's not surprising in the slightest that Disney wants to make the comics more like the movies. It's not even a stupid move, if they pair it with getting Marvel comics out to kids.

I love Posehn in all mediums. Sterling makes my head explode, though.
Just saw someone make an interesting point: this might also be about doing away with the Fantastic Four (to compel Fox to make a deal) and to turn most of the mutants into Inhumans (so Marvel can do something with them in TV and movies). This seems workable but I can only imagine the lawsuits that'll be coming.
That's what I assumed too, hence the no more mutants comment.
I'm honestly surprised the Ultimate universe has lasted as long as it has. Much like Spider-Girl and MC2, I'd say that's because of the strength of the Ultimate Spider-Man book. The rest of the books and universe has been a complete mess for years, but that book has always stood out as better than even the regular universe Spider-Books. Aside from Ultimate Spider-Man, this has been a long overdue mercy killing since Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum.
My only concern is what happens to Miles Morales at this point because he's such a great, unique character. If he joins proper Marvel, he'll eventually be shuffled aside as another B-level player who isn't the "real" Spider-Man.[DOUBLEPOST=1421843649,1421843506][/DOUBLEPOST]As far as a company-wide reboot? What is so goddamn wrong with telling one, self-contained story where you follow from issue 1 to 2 to 3, etc? Not to mention just the sheer fucking number of books they put out, where it's all about quantity, not quality. You look at Image and they're putting out quality book after quality book. Sure, not all of them are quality books, like Spawn, but you can't expect everything to be golden. But they do it with a lot less books than either company. Look at this:
Image beat Marvel in the market share (for graphic novels) last year with a third of the titles. It came in second place against DC with a third of the titles published. Going just by this chart, Marvel isn't even part of the "big two" anymore.
Can you imagine if DC and Marvel put more effort into quality, self-contained books that didn't rely on crossovers? More books like Hawkeye? Like Batwoman? Heck, even Ultimate Spider-Man for the most part was self-contained, which is largely why it's such a great book.

I have to agree. I don't mind crossovers, but I wish they'd be their own series, like Secret Wars, rather than jumping from title to title. Meanwhile, when I was cataloging my collection, I was reminded how freaking greedy the industry got in the 90's with the "variant covers" nonsense. That was somewhat worse, because there wasn't even a different story inside.
It's a shame Batwoman was cancelled, since it was a solid book. And I think Image is playing it safe, because I don't think they can afford to publish as many books as DC and Marvel. (Didn't they sell their Wildstorm line to DC? Or was that a personal sale for Jim Lee?)
I'd be willing to bet that Image is leading solely on the strength of The Walking Dead... and only because Disney hadn't brought the hammer down on Marvel.

Jim Lee did sell Wildstorm to DC, but that was his own thing. It was published through Image, but Lee owned all the rights.
And I disagree @AshburnerX. Yes, Walking Dead is certainly Image's biggest seller. No question of that. One look on the shelf at Chapters tells me that. But they've been publishing a number of great, quality books that have sold incredibly well. Saga is the one, which is second to Walking Dead. Then you have all the other phenomenal titles like Chew, Elephantmen, Fatale (or anything by Brubaker and Phillips), Velvet, Invincible, Sex Criminals, and countless others. They're all their own books and they're all unique. In fact, of the ones I listed, each of them could fall under different genres. That's their other strength over Marvel and DC, who are still trying to tout superhero books, which gets boring after awhile. Image has a great deal of variety. Cripes, their big seller is a ZOMBIE comic, which started when the zombie trend hadn't even been a thing yet. And now that that trend has generally subsided, it's still their biggest seller.

Oh don't get me wrong. I -LOVE- Image Comics. TWD, Chew, and Invincibles are long time favs. I'm just pointing out that TWD is a huge, mondo hit right now and it's available in several easy to find, easy to buy collections. If you want the entire story of TWD, you basically only need to buy like 3 big books and a trade at this point. It's got a lot of meat but it's also one series so it's easy to jump into.
I couldn't even BEGIN to point out what someone needs to understand just what the hell is going on during ANY Marvel event. Even the Civil War collection leaves out huge chunks of the story.
